Chinese net-addict teenagers given electric shocks as treatment

Real nice , I know this was done in America and other countries , Decades ago . But done to Kids simply for being addicted to net surfing ? What  Midieval Pricks !
China news
(ANI)Shanghai,  : In a bid to prevent Internet addiction of their children,
Chinese parents are turning towards electro-shock therapy at a clinic
that claims they will be "reborn" free of the obsession.

However the harsh methods used by the clinic have caused an outcry among 3000
teenagers, who have been subjected to this odd treatment, The Sunday
Times reports.

At Dr Yang Yonxin's clinic, there are at least 100 young inmates.

Their parents have sent them to the treatment centre in Shandong province,
eastern China, because they have become hyperactive and uncontrollable.

Patients
are forbidden to speak about anything except their struggle to escape
the addiction. The boy or girl is made to write a confession and kneel
in front of his or her parents.

The clinic has 86 rules. The
regulations prescribe electric shocks as punishment for "misdeeds" such
as eating chocolate and locking the bathroom door.

Former patients, writing online, claim the shocks, some severe, were administered continuously.

Villagers fight Taliban after Pakistan mosque blast

Hillarious ! The people of Pakistan turning on the Taliban ! Well it is what they get , You just can't go around forcing people to do what you wish , they usually will push back ! now the only people that the Taliban have on their side is ,Themselves !

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Villagers in northwest Pakistan have attacked Taliban
militants killing seven of them in revenge for a bomb attack on a
mosque that killed at least 40 people, a top government official and
residents said on Sunday.

It was the latest in a series of instances of people turning their guns on the Taliban
in recent weeks and trying to force them out of their areas and will
encourage the Pakistani government which needs public support to defeat
the militants.

One resident of Upper Dir said the militia had demolished houses where Taliban were known to stay.

"We
are Muslims, we pray regularly and read the Koran. We don't want them,
they have to go," resident Samiullah Khan said by telephone. "Attacking
a mosque is not Islam. They're not Muslim."

Ethnic Pashtun tribal elder Mohtabar Khan said letting the Taliban stay was asking for trouble.

Canadians angered over "Buy American" rule

Thats Funny ! I don't recall hearing the Canadian Government Complaining when we were forced to import Canadian goods at the cost of thousands of American Jobs ! We are just trying to help our Economy and our people by trying to create some work ! The Buy American Movement is not really a movement at all , it is more a reinforcement of an old agreement we had for Government funded Jobs ! TO USE AMERICAN MADE GOODS WHENEVER POSSIBLE AND AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ! Attention Canadian Neighbors , It is not that we have anything against you ! the world is a screwed up place right now ! we are trying to save our country from ruin ! If we have no money to buy your goods or the need to , then your economy will fail right along side us !

WHISTLER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Canadian municipal leaders threatened to retaliate against the "Buy America" movement in the United States on Saturday, warning trade restrictions will hurt both countries' economies.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities endorsed a controversial proposal to support communities that refuse to buy products from countries that put trade restrictions on products and services from Canada.

The measure is a response to a provision in the U.S. economic stimulus package passed by Congress in February that says public works projects should use iron, steel and other goods made in the United States.

The United States is Canada's largest trading partner, and Canadians have complained the restrictions will bar their companies from billions of dollars in business that they have previously had access to.

"This U.S. protectionist policy is hurting Canadian firms, costing Canadian jobs and damaging Canadian efforts to grow our economy in the midst of a worldwide recession," said Sherbrooke, Quebec, Mayor Jean Perrault, also president of the federation that represents cities and towns across Canada.

S.Korea makes plans to counter North missile

You can't blame South Korea for having a plan to defend itself , living next to North Korea is a lot like Israel living next to the Palestine , you just never Know what is going to happen next !

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea has outlined a plan to counter a possible missile attack by North Korea, including airstrikes on a missile base, Seoul's Yonhap News reported on Sunday citing military sources.

A scenario by the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff submitted to President Lee Myung-bak on Saturday included a plan to counter-attack in case North Korea fires a missile targeting the South's battleships in the contested waters off the west coast, Yonhap said.

The response under the contingency plan would be joint attacks from surface, air and sea against the North's missile base, it said.

In late May, South Korea and the United States raised the military alert level for the peninsula after the communist North ramped up tensions by war threats, missile launches and a nuclear test.

The South's navy earlier in June also deployed a guided-missile vessel near the sea border off the west coast. The Yellow Sea has been the site of two deadly clashes between the two rival Koreas in the past 10 years.

South Korean president Lee said on Saturday that his government would not back down to the North's threats, saying the South has a strong defense.

'Shipriders' to fight pirates

This to me is ridiculous ! You would think with the Pirate problem as it is that the countries involved would make an easy exception ! Let the weapons used to fight the pirates stay on board ! Let the Shipriders shoot to kill any pirate They need to , to defend the vessel the are protecting ! The world needs to get back to the days where the bad guys had less rights than the good guys ! And the protection of the good guys were held to a higher standard than those of the bad guys !

the straits times
NAIROBI (Kenya) - THERE'S not a warship for miles, a small pirate skiff
is speeding toward you and there's no way the creaking tub you're on
can outrun the bandits.

How long do you wait before you shoot? It's
just one of many possible dilemmas facing an increasing number of
private security companies who offer armed escorts - known in the
industry as 'shipriders' - from Somali pirates.

But legal problems abound for ships that carry guns. The first
hurdle is making sure the countries where ships embark and disembark
the weapons will allow them to do so - a legal nightmare in corrupt
Middle Eastern ports with terrorism problems.

Then there's the
issue of which law applies onboard the ship if a weapon is discharged:
the shooter's nationality, the law of the country whose flag the ship
is flying, or the territorial waters of the country the ship is in.

In
at least one case, a private security consultant said, an armed team
had rented weapons from the Djibouti government then was forced to drop
them over the side of the ship to avoid illegally importing them into
the country where they were due to disembark.

The consultant asked for anonymity because he did not wish to compromise his business.

Ghost captured on CCTV?

WTF ? very strange !

The Straits Times

LONDON - BRITISH media outlets were excited on Friday by supposed footage of a small 'ghost' captured on a CCTV camera.

What has been described by The Sun newspaper as 'the ghost of a small child darting across a busy shopping centre' has set social network website YouTube alight.

The shadowy spirit glides in between oblivious shoppers in the eerily clear video, The Sun reported.

A possible floating phantom figure appears in the bottom right of the screen after a male shopper exits a room to the top left, described news.com.au.

According to news.com.au, the 36-second tape was taken in a shopping mall in Chile, South America, and surfaced on the internet on Friday.

Chilean media claim that the phenomenon is the ghost of a small local boy.

U.S. Charges Couple With Spying for Cuba

A three year investigation into this couple ! At there age there will probably not be much done to them ! but for 30 years of giving Diplomatic info to the Communist state , They should rot in a nice U.S prison ! I can think of one in Cuba , Since they love the little country so much , It is the least we can do for them !

New York Times
WASHINGTON — The Justice Department charged Friday that a former State Department analyst and his wife worked as spies for Cuba for nearly 30 years, using a short-wave radio to pass on secret diplomatic information to their Cuban handlers.

Officials said the couple, Walter K. Myers, 72, and Gwendolyn S. Myers, 71, received little in the way of compensation from the Cubans except for the short-wave radio and some travel expenses. Rather, the officials said, the couple appears to have been driven by their strong affinity for Cuba and their bitterness toward “American imperialism.”

“We think they did it because they love Cuba,” said a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case.

The Myerses, who live in Washington, were arrested on Thursday and charged in a grand jury indictment unsealed Friday with serving as illegal agents of the Cuban government and wire fraud. A defense lawyer declined to comment on the charges.

Iran in major nuclear expansion, U.N. oversight harder

And Speaking of Iran , Sounds like Iran is really working towards doing some serious Uranium Enrichment ! I may be wrong , but don't you need a nuclear power plant to utilize the material for "Peaceful" purposes ? Does Iran even have one ? or maybe one in the works ?

VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran has significantly expanded uranium enrichment with almost 5,000 centrifuges now operating and this has made it harder for U.N. inspectors to keep track of the disputed nuclear activity, an IAEA report said on Friday.

Obtained by Reuters, the restricted International Atomic Energy Agency report said Iran had increased its rate of production of low-enriched uranium (LEU), boosting its stockpile by 500 kg to 1,339 kg in the past six months.
The U.N. nuclear watchdog report said Iran had 4,920 centrifuges, cylinders that spin at supersonic speed, being fed with uranium hexafluoride gas (UF6) for enrichment nonstop as of May 31, a jump of about 25 percent since February.

Another 2,132 machines were installed and undergoing vacuum tests while a further 169 were being set up -- bringing Iran's total number of deployed centrifuges at its underground Natanz enrichment hall to 7,231 -- with 55,000 eventually planned.

IAEA finds undeclared uranium at second Syria site

And not a bit of this surprises me ! It should not surprise anyone ! Syria is one of those muslim Countries that like to "not tell the truth " they are exactly like North Korea And Iran when it comes to nuclear development ! And each of them along with many other radical Muslims would love to have A Nuclear arsenal ! if Syria or Iran are allowed to develop Nuclear weapons , You can bet , we will see them used again !

VIENNA (Reuters) - The U.N. nuclear watchdog said on Friday it had found traces of processed uranium at a second spot in Syria and was checking for a link to particles retrieved from the site of Washington says was a covert atomic reactor.

The development, coupled with new information about Syrian procurement of large amounts of graphite and a compound used as a radiation shield, could heighten concern about possible undeclared nuclear activity in Syria assisted by North Korea.
The IAEA said in February inspectors had found enough traces of uranium in soil samples collected a year ago at the site, known as Dair Alzour, to constitute a "significant" find.

During the same factfinding visit, IAEA sleuths detected similar "manmade" uranium particles in test swipes done at a small research reactor in Damascus which the IAEA knew about and checks routinely once a year, a new IAEA report said.

These traces were not included in Syria's past declarations of nuclear inventory to the Vienna-based IAEA.

U.S. to impose financial sanctions on N.Korea

So does this mean that North Korea will be declaring war today ? They said that any action or sanctions by the U.S. would be considered an act of war !

SEOUL (Reuters) - The United States has told South Korea it is preparing financial measures to punish North Korea for illicit weapons trade and counterfeit activities in the wake of its nuclear test last week, a newspaper report said on Friday.

North Korea has been ratcheting up regional tensions since it fired a long-range rocket over Japan in April, and on Thursday the hermit state put two female U.S. journalists on trial accused of illegally entering its territory with "hostile intent."
Plans to hit the North's finances were discussed during a four-day visit to Seoul by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, the South Korean daily newspaper Chosun Ilbo said.

"The U.S. delegation led by Steinberg explained when visiting President Lee Myung-bak and others Washington's own sanctions against the North centered around financial sanctions," the paper quoted a presidential Blue House official as saying.

China security tight in Tiananmen

I put this up a little late today , should have had it up first thing this morning ! A lack of sleep and odd work hours play havoc on your mind !
But for the people of china that is nothing compared to what they have to live through ! Hopefully one day the citizens of China will be able to rise up again without being slaughtered or thrown in Labor camps never to be heard from again !

BEIJING (Reuters) - China smothered Tiananmen Square with police on Thursday to prevent commemoration of the crackdown on pro-democracy protesters 20 years ago and the United States demanded Beijing account for those killed.

Tanks rolled into the square before dawn on June 4, 1989, to crush weeks of student and worker protests. The ruling Communist Party has never released a death toll and fears any public marking of the crackdown could undermine its hold on power.

But some people came quietly to the square to mourn.

"Today is June 4, so we came here to commemorate it," said a man surnamed Wang.

Tens of thousands in China-ruled Hong Kong attended a candlelight vigil on Thursday night to mark the anniversary.

Organizers estimated a record 150,000 people had attended, as crowds overspilled from six football pitches in a downtown park.

"In 20 years, the knot of June 4 has not been untied," said Reverend Chu Yiu-ming, one of the organizers.

Deter N.Korea says Russia

A bit of a sudden turn around from Russia , Maybe with some increased pressure from Russia , North Korea may have a change of Heart , and stop all their nuclear ambitions and cooperate in the world community like a good little country !... Just joking ! !

MOSCOW - RUSSIAN President Dmitry Medvedev indicated on Wednesday that Moscow may be prepared to support further UN sanctions to deter North Korea from more nuclear tests.

'We support those proposals which have been made - to accept a new, rather serious resolution that condemns what has happened - and to think of introducing certain mechanisms to deter those programmes which are being carried out, including by influencing economic processes,' Mr Medvedev told US television station CNBC, according to a text provided by the Kremlin.

Russia condemned North Korea's nuclear test last week but said it was too early to talk about possible sanctions.

'We have always had quite good relations with the Korean leadership but what has happened arouses very big concern,' Mr Medvedev said.

North Korea puts two U.S. journalists on trial

If no one intervenes , Lee and Ling , will be facing 10 years of hard labor !

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea put two U.S. journalists on trial on Thursday on charges of illegally entering the state with "hostile intent," in a case that could worsen tension with Washington after Pyongyang's nuclear test last week.

The journalists, Euna Lee and Laura Ling of the U.S. media outlet Current TV, were arrested in March near the border between China and North Korea while working on a story. The TV network was co-founded by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore.

North Korea's KCNA news agency said in a one-sentence dispatch that the trial would begin at 2:00 a.m. EDT (3 p.m. local time) at one of the country's highest courts.

Experts say the pair could face a sentence of 10 years or more of hard labor in the reclusive state. They add a guilty verdict is almost certain in a North Korean justice system that protects the unquestioned rule of leader Kim Jong-il.

EL PASO -- A man shot and killed outside his East Side home was a mid-level member of the Juárez drug cartel, El Paso police said Wednesday afternoon.

Police had said Gonzalez may have been approached by another man and shot with a handgun. Neighbors in the area reported hearing at least three gunshots shortly after 10 p.m.

OAS ends Cuba suspension after 47 years

Not so sure this is such a good thing !

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras (reuters) - The Organization of American States lifted its 47-year suspension of Cuba on Wednesday in a move backed by Washington as it tries to soothe Cold War tensions with the communist-run island.

The 34-member hemispheric body, meeting in Honduras, unanimously scrapped a 1962 decision at the height of the Cold War that barred Cuba as revolutionary leader Fidel Castro took it toward communism and an alliance with the Soviet Union.

While leftists in Latin America hailed the OAS vote as a diplomatic victory for Cuba, Washington said it had succeeded in ensuring that Cuba cannot rejoin the group without moving toward democracy and respect for human rights.

U.S. President Barack Obama has taken steps toward a more open relationship with Cuba, lifting restrictions on travel and cash remittances to Cuba for Cuban-Americans with relatives on the island.

But his administration had said Havana should not be allowed to return to the OAS until it embraces democratic principles and makes progress on human rights.

Of course the Taliban leaders have escaped the Army's fire ! Do you think the pansies are going to actually fight?

MINGORA, Pakistan (Reuters) - Pakistani authorities are preparing for the return of residents to Swat's main town but decisive victory will only be won when Taliban leaders are dead, an army commander said on Wednesday.

The army began battling Taliban in the region in late April, after a militant thrust into a district 100 km (60 miles) northwest of the capital raised fear at home and abroad that the nuclear-armed country could slowly slip into militant hands.

The army has secured the main town of Mingora and pushed militants out of many other parts of the Swat valley, until recently famous for its ski slopes and summer hiking. But the fighting has also forced about 2 million people from their homes.

There are no independent casualty estimates but the army says more than 1,230 militants have been killed, while it has lost more than 90 men. But Taliban leaders in Swat have apparently escaped the army's fire.

FDA looking abroad to boost food, drug safety

Really ! Well it is about Damn time !

TOKYO (AP) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has expanded
offices around the world and heightened contacts with counterpart

senior agency official said Wednesday.

Globalization has

"What we now

have to do a better job with our counterpart agencies around the
world," he told reporters at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo.

Over the last several months, the FDA has established its first overseas posts in China, India, Latin America and Europe.

"It
shows our agency evolving from a very domestically focused agency
historically to one now that realizes that it does have a place in a

BEIJING - Examiner.com
Ahead of the 20th anniversary of the bloody crackdown on Tiananmen Square this week, Chinese authorities have rounded up dissidents and shipped them out of town. Now, they've even shut down Twitter.

Along with their usual methods of muzzling dissent, the authorities extended their efforts Tuesday to silence social networking sites that might foster discussion of any commemoration of the events of June 3-4, 1989.
Government Internet monitors have shut down message boards on more than 6,000 Web sites affiliated with colleges and universities, apparently to head off any talk about the 1989 events, according to the Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy.

Numerous blogs maintained by edgy government critics such as avant-garde artist Ai Weiwei have been blocked and the text-messaging service Twitter and photo sharing site Flickr could not be accessed within China on Tuesday. Video sharing site YouTube has been blocked within China since March.

Mr Obama , the muslim world is a danger to our well being and our way of life , Be careful of who's toes you step on ! They are most likely ours !

theStraitsTimes
LONDON - THE United States can be a 'role model' to the Muslim world, President Barack Obama said in an interview broadcast on Tuesday.

'The thing that we can do most importantly is serve as a good role model,' he told BBC television in an interview on the eve of a trip to Europe and Egypt, where he plans to deliver a much-anticipated speech to the Muslim world.

He said he hoped his visit would begin a new relationship between America and the wider Muslim community.

'Democracy, rule of law, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, those are not simply principles of the West to be hoisted on these countries - but rather what I believe to be universal principles that they can embrace and affirm as part of their national identity,' President Obama said.

He said the danger was when the US or any other country thought they could impose these values on another country with different histories and cultures.

'(But) absolutely you can encourage and I expect we will be encouraging,' he added. -- REUTERS

the StraitsTimes

SEOUL - NORTH Korean leader Kim Jong Il has asked his country's
overseas missions to pledge loyalty to his youngest son, signalling he
has been anointed as next leader of the communist dynasty, a newspaper
report said on Tuesday.

Mr Kim, 67, is thought to have suffered a stroke in August.

Analysts
have said the North's recent military actions, including a nuclear test
last week, may be aimed at helping him solidify power so that he can
name a successor.

'It has been confirmed through various channels
that North Korea sent emails to legations overseas, asking them to
pledge their loyalty to (youngest son) Kim Jong Un,' the South Korean
daily Dong-A Ilbo reported an 'informed source' as saying.

Analysts

highly secretive North, with Mr Kim's plans only known to his small
inner circle.

Militants kidnap 400 students, others in Pakistan

This is a friendly move on the part of the Taliban ! I'm sure this will make everyone like them Even more now ! To me the Taliban are nothing but Pussies , A bunch of jealous halfwits who have fire power instead of brains , the worst kind of rejects in the world ! the only reason they attack Schools and school kids , is because they don't want anybody having a brain and figuring them out ! If they can keep a few generations beat down and stupid , they will seem smarter to the people ! It would not surprise me one bit If the Taliban kill some of these students !

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) - Taliban militants in northwest Pakistan kidnapped up to 400 students from a military-run college, with teachers and relatives, on Monday as they were traveling in mini-buses, police said.
Taliban fighters with hand grenades seized the students' convoy heading home for the summer holiday from the North Waziristan ethnic Pashtun region on the Afghan border to the town of Bannu, 240 km (150 miles) southwest of Islamabad.

"The driver of one of the vehicles managed to escape and students reported to us that their colleagues have been kidnapped by Taliban," said Razaq Khan, a police official in Bakka Kheil village in North West Frontier Province.

"The students reported that one Taliban carrying a hand grenade boarded each of the buses and took them away. We don't know where they have gone," he said.
Bannu police chief Iqbal Marwat said up to 400 people in 28 vehicles were seized. Sixty-seven escaped, he said.

China silences human rights lawyers as Tiananmen date looms

More strong arming from the communist controllers of china ! Thursday is the actual anniversary of the Tiananmen square uprising ! Saturday there was a big demonstration in Hong Kong About 5000 people marched through the streets ! no incidents as far as I heard !

Timesonline
Chinese authorities effectively disbarred some of the country’s leading civil rights lawyers yesterday, dealing a blow to a group than has done more to hold the Government to account than any other in recent years.

The lawyers described the move as part of a carefully orchestrated government campaign to prevent them from taking on controversial or high-profile cases. They have faced intimidation, threats and violence in the past to deter them from doing so.

The timing of the move is no coincidence. The 20th anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown falls on Thursday and the Government is eager to suppress dissenting voices.
Now it is invalid and he is no longer allowed to work. All such licences were due for renewal by May 31. By the close of business that day his permit, along with those of about 20 other lawyers, had expired without a word from the authorities who regulate the legal profession.

missile (ICBM) with an estimated range of 2,500-4,000 miles from a west
