At least 46 killed in Pakistan bombings

And yet again more Muslim Killing Muslim Violence .
I don't know why anyone in Pakistan that is not A goat herding Taliban lover , would rather support the Taliban , who kill more Muslims than they do Infidels , than support the effort to Rid the country of them once and for all !

....Los Angeles Times
Two near-simultaneous bomb blasts tore through a crowded market in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore on Monday, killing at least 36 people and injuring more than 100.

Police said many of the dead were women and children.

Earlier, a suicide bomber killed 10 people outside a courthouse in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

Pakistan has been hit with a wave of terrorist strikes as its army tries to clamp down on Islamic militants in the nation's tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan. Although many of those attacks have been directed at Pakistani armed forces, police and intelligence agencies, insurgents at times have targeted crowded markets in the country's largest cities.

The attack in Lahore occurred at 8:45 p.m. at the Moon Market, a popular bazaar that was packed with shoppers. Police say one of the bombs was detonated by remote control; they were investigating whether the second was a suicide blast.

The explosions took place about 30 seconds apart. The first occurred at the back of the market and sent throngs of shoppers running toward the front, police said. As the crowd reached storefronts and stalls at the front end, a second blast occurred there.

The explosions gutted rows of shops, many of which sold clothes and shoes and were frequented by women with children in tow. Televised images from the scene showed flames shooting skyward as fighters struggled for hours to put out the blaze.

And to Emphasize a point made here ,

"Police said many of the dead were women and children."

....
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian security forces fired warning shots in Tehran on Monday and beat opposition protesters among thousands seeking to renew their challenge to the government six months after a disputed election, witnesses said.

The security forces fired shots into the air as they clashed with supporters of opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi at a state rally marking the killing of three students under the former Shah, the reformist website Mowjcamp said.

"Security forces are beating demonstrators, men and women. Some of them are injured and bleeding," said one witness in Tehran's central Haft-e Tir square.

The June 12 presidential election, which secured President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election, sparked Iran's worst unrest since the Islamic revolution three decades ago and exposed deep divisions in the establishment. Authorities deny allegations of vote-rigging.

Journalists working for foreign media were told by officials not to leave their offices to cover stories from Monday until Wednesday, but witnesses told Reuters hundreds of riot police battled protesters in various Tehran squares to disperse them.

"Some people who took part in illegal gatherings on Monday have been arrested by police," said Tehran general prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, the semi-official Fars new agency reported. "They are being interrogated."

He did not specify how many people had been arrested.

Witnesses said some of the Tehran protesters chanted "death to the dictator".

Obama to widen Predator Drone strikes in Pakistan

Apparently the Obama administration is in talks with Pakistan to expand predator drones strike to the Baluchistan province. It is believed that most of the top taliban leaders are based in the province.

From Wired Danger Room

The White House “has authorized an expansion” of the CIA-lead killer drone campaign in Pakistan, to “parallel” the troop surge in Afghanistan, the New York Times reports. “American officials are talking to Pakistan about the possibility of striking in Baluchistan [province] for the first time… because that is where Afghan Taliban leaders are believed to hide.”[...]

“The Afghan war is organized and run out of Baluchistan. Virtually all significant meetings of the Taliban take place in that province, and many of the group’s senior leaders and military commanders are based there,” Jones adds in the piece

Afghan women among worst off in world

No surprise here .
This is what Sharia Law will Bring To any country that allows Islam To Take over !

....
KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan women are among the worst off in the world, violence against them is "endemic" and Afghanistan's government fails to protect them from crimes such as rape and murder, a rights group said on Monday.

Human Rights Watch said in a report the situation for women in Afghanistan is "dismal in every area."

"Women will not seek help because of their fears of police abuse and corruption, or their fears of retaliation by perpetrators of violence," said the 96-page report, which is based on 120 interviews from different Afghan provinces.

Afghanistan is a deeply conservative, Muslim country where women have only been allowed to return to work and education since 2001, when the Taliban were overthrown by U.S.-led forces.

"Whereas the trend had clearly been positive for women's rights from 2001-2005, the trend now is negative in many areas ... it is a reflection of the power of conservative leaders who want to deny women their basic rights," the report said.

The report cites cases where rapists have been pardoned by the government, girls and women have been imprisoned for running away from home, rape victims have been charged with adultery and where women in public life have been murdered.

It comes a week after the United Nations said violence and rape against women in Afghanistan was a problem of "profound proportions."

Swiss minaret ban reversal vote in pipeline

This gets Interesting now , A proposal is being drawn up to be brought to a vote , To overturn the 57% approval of a ban On Minarets .

MoMo Qadaffy , says Voting against Islam , Has done Al Qaida a great Favor , And is Playing into their Hands !

And the U.N Is Upset because this is a Human rights violation to no end , And the ban is Oppressive to Muslims everywhere !

....
ZURICH (Reuters) - Swiss liberals are considering a new referendum to overturn the ban on building new minarets in the country, Sunday papers reported, as Libya's Muamar Gaddafi warned the ban played into the hands of terrorists.

Club Helvetique, a group of over 20 Swiss intellectuals, will draw up an action plan to overturn the ban, which has drawn widespread criticism abroad and prompted hundreds of people to take to the streets this weekend in Zurich, Basel and Berne.

"A new initiative is the most democratic way of achieving this," constitutional lawyer Joerg Mueller told Sonntag.

But the ban Initiative was done in a Democratic way , no one was forced to vote on it !

Voters adopted the ban in a referendum a week ago, defying the government and parliament which had warned the right-wing initiative violated the Swiss constitution, freedom of religion and a cherished tradition of tolerance.

In a Democratic society , The Will of the people is supposed to rule , even with the Opposition to the Movement by the Government !
( If not you Have , Iran Not Switzerland )
In overturning this referendum , The most intolerant religion and people , will have a stronger foothole to Impose their ways upon Switzerland ! Islams view ... To Kill or convert all nonbelievers !

Two complaints questioning the legality of ban had already been handed to Switzerland's Federal Court, Sonntag said.

Libya leader Gaddafi said the ban had done a great favor to al Qaeda militants, who would use it to attract recruits in a holy war against Europe, news agency SDA reported.

"The activists are now saying: 'we told you that they are our enemies...join al Qaeda and declare jihad on Europe '."

O.K. MoMo now thinks of Al Qaida As Activists ?

Politicians from the SVP, Switzerland's biggest party, and the conservative Federal Democratic Union gathered enough signatures to force the referendum on the initiative which opposed the "Islamisation of Switzerland."

Its campaign poster showed the Swiss flag covered in missile-like minarets and the portrait of a woman covered with a black chador and veil associated with strict Islam.

"The Club Helvetique is an association of bad losers," Sonntag reported SVP Vice-President Christoph Blocher as saying.

And an Association of the Blind .

NO TERRORIST THREAT

The United Nations last week denounced Switzerland's constitutional ban on building minarets as "deeply divisive," "clearly discriminatory" and at odds with the country's obligations under international law.

Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey said the Iranian government had summoned the Swiss ambassador to explain the situation.

"I don't know of any evidence of terrorist threats so far," she said. "We are doing everything to prevent the situation from escalating."

Switzerland, a country of 7.7 million, is home to more than 300,000 Muslims, mainly from Bosnia, Kosovo and Turkey, but has just four minarets.

7.7 Million people in Switzerland and only 300,000 Muslims ? WTF .
When you read everything being said in opposition to the Ban , You would think There was a Larger Number of Muslims in Switzerland !
Regardless of that , I fear Switzerland Will Give in !

Gitmo detainees headed for the Land of Lincoln?

That's the rumor:

They are calling it "beyond Supermax" - to make it sound like a super-duper prison facility and calm the sheeple, I guess.

Despite opposition from congressional Republicans, the Obama administration is signaling that a state prison in rural Thomson, Ill., will probably become the new home for scores of terrorism suspects now housed at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Officials from the White House, Defense Department and U.S. Bureau of Prisons spent two hours last week briefing more than a dozen members of the Illinois delegation in the office of Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat. To reassure skeptical Republicans, they emphasized security.

Although the officials left open the possibility that another site could be chosen, participants emerged from the session convinced that the U.S. government will buy the largely unused $145 million Thomson Correctional Center, which was built in 2008.

If all goes well, administration sources involved in closing the Guantanamo Bay prison anticipate a handover of the Thomson facility by late winter. It would then take several months to prepare the prison to a level "beyond supermax" and put the staff in place, according to federal estimates.

Upping the ante as far as the need for 'beyond supermax' - military trials will be also be held there.

Officials said the Obama administration is considering the Illinois facility not only as a site for prolonged detention, but also as a location for military commission trials once a courtroom complex is added and the Guantanamo Bay prison is shuttered.

Remember Beslan, possums.

Attacks on prisons by al Qaeda to release their fellow jihadists are too numerous to list here. What do you think they were doing at that school in Beslan? Beslan had been used by Ossetian militia (Christian) as an internment camp for Ingush civilians (Sunni Muslims) during the 1992 Ossetian-Ingush conflict, and it was chosen as a target because of this connection.

Uighurs flee China, seek asylum in Cambodia

This is what happens when you have a country that is Intolerant of an Intolerant people !
The Uighurs , A Muslim people , have started so much Strife in Xianxang China that they have been seriously cracked down on by their Communist controllers !
Fleeing China to find another country to live in , that will tolerate such B.S. as, Murder , Rioting , Civil unrest and a blatant issue of just NOT fitting in , Is going to be the Uighurs , only chance .
Their choice , sneak out of China , Or Blend in with society !
Obviously ,For these Muslims , Blending in is out of the Question .

....
BEIJING (Reuters) - A group of Uighurs who have fled China are seeking asylum through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, an overseas activist group said, adding that other would-be refugees had been captured while fleeing China after ethnic riots in their homeland in July.

Two of the 22 Uighurs who sought asylum through the UNHCR offices in Phnom Penh say they witnessed security forces killing and beating Uighur demonstrators in the far western city of Urumqi on July 5, the Uighur American Association said.

On that day, demonstrations in Urumqi by Uighurs protesting fatal attacks on Uighur workers in South China turned into a violent rampage in which 197 people, mostly Han Chinese, died. Han Chinese crowds launched revenge attacks against Uighur neighborhoods two days later.

On Friday, a court in Urumqi condemned to death a Uighur man and woman on charges of murder during the July 5 riot, as well as a Han Chinese man for killing three people during the counter-attacks two days later, bringing to 17 the number of people sentenced to death after the riots.

Uighurs are a Muslim, Turkic speaking ethnic group native to Xinjiang, many of whom chafe under Chinese rule.

In addition to the 22 Uighurs who made it to Phnom Penh, the exile group said two others were stopped by police when trying to cross from Vietnam to Cambodia. It said 31 Uighurs were detained in central and southern China for trying to flee or helping others to do so, while another five who tried to enter Vietnam in October are unaccounted for.

Refugees who flee China face a dangerous crossing over the mountainous borders, and risk repatriation while they are still in neighboring countries.

In October an ethnic Mongolian school principal, Batzangaa, was abruptly brought back to China by Chinese police while he and his family were appealing the UNHCR's initial rejection of their refugee application in Ulan Bator. He is still in detention.

Canadian diplomats have been unable despite repeated protests to get consular access to Huseyin Celil, a Uighur refugee with Canadian citizenship deported back to China while visiting relatives in Uzbekistan. He has been jailed in China since 2006.

UK: Gordon Brown snubbed by soldiers curtain protest.

Gordon brown and the swastika God bless them. (President Obama please take note. Read the comments!)

<--- Per Kyros at ROA: This is not photoshopped!

From The Times UK: (h/t FReeper mware.)

Gordon Brown was snubbed by badly injured Afghan veterans when they closed curtains round their beds during a hospital visit and refused to speak to him.

More than half the soldiers being treated at the Selly Oak hospital ward in Birmingham either asked for the curtains to be closed or deliberately avoided the prime minister, according to several of those present.

The soldiers, who have sustained some of the worst injuries seen in Afghanistan, described his visit as “opportunistic” and a “waste of time”. Furious about equipment shortages and poor compensation for their injuries, one soldier said: “It is almost as if we are the product of an unwanted affair ... he has done nothing for us.”

UK: Don't call them Islamic Extremists - you'll hurt their widdle feelings.

This is why demonstration's like today's EDL protest in Nottingham are so important.

From the UK Sun: (H/T FReeThinkerNY)

MINISTERS have been BANNED from using words like Islamist and fundamentalist - in case they offend Muslims.

An eight-page Whitehall guide lists words they should not use when talking about terrorism in public and gives politically correct alternatives. They are told not to refer to Muslim extremism as it links Islam to violence. (SO? Sometimes the truth hurts) Instead, they are urged to talk about terrorism or violent extremism.

Fundamentalist and Jihadi are also banned because they make an "explicit link" between Muslims and terror.

Ministers should say criminals, murderers or thugs instead. Radicalisation must be called brainwashing and talking about moderate or radical Muslims is to be avoided as it "splits the community".

Islamophobia is also out as it is received as "a slur that singles out Muslims".

The guide, produced by the secretive Research, Information and Communications Unit in the Home Office, tell ministers to "avoid implying that specific communities are to blame" for terrorism. It says more than 2,000 people are engaged in terror plots.

The guidance was branded "daft" last night by a special adviser to ex-Communities Secretary Hazel Blears. Paul Richards said: "Unless you can describe what you're up against, you're never going to defeat it. Ministers need to be leading the debate on Islamic extremism and they can't do that if they have one hand tied behind their back."

The Home Office said: "This is about using appropriate language to have counter-terrorism impact. It would be foolish to do anything else."

The dhimmi Home Office wouldn't say poop if they had a mouthful, evidently.

Iran threatens Switzerland with "unspecified consequences"...

... if minaret ban enforced.

OMG, hearing the Iranians wax eloquent about human rights is a joke, isn't it?

From the LA Times:

An East-West clash over a Swiss referendum last week banning the construction of mosque minarets heated up today as Iran's foreign minister warned of unspecified "consequences" if the ban were enforced.

Manouchehr Mottaki spoke on the phone with his Swiss counterpart Micheline Calmy-Rey. Switzerland and Iran generally have good relations. The Swiss serve as Washington's representative in the Iranian capital in the absence of formal relations between America and the Islamic Republic, giving them exalted status in Tehran's diplomatic circles.

But Mottaki had harsh words for Switzerland, saying enforcement of the ban on new minarets was “against the prestige of a country which claims to be an advocate of democracy and human rights" and would "damage Switzerland’s image as a pioneer of respecting human rights among Muslims' public opinion," according to a report by the official Islamic Republic News Agency, or IRNA.

[...]

“Values such as tolerance, dialogue and respecting others' religions(Ed. Note: Don't make me laugh - you mean like Iran respects and tolerates religions other than Islam?) should never be put to referendum,” Mottaki told his Swiss counterpart. He expressed hope that Bern would soon “take necessary steps and find a constitutional way to prevent imposition of the ban.”

An Iranian cleric today also condemned the minaret ban. Ayatollah Hossein Nouri-Hamadani, said the move was "at odds with the protection of Muslim citizens' civil rights and will hurt the feelings of Muslims across the world," according to Iran's state television. (Ed. note: Oh noes! Muslims itty bitty feelings are hurt!)

Calmy-Rey told Mottaki her government would "use all its means to support Muslims rights," according to IRNA.

Calmy-Rey = Another Dhimmi politician...

English Defence League: Nottingham rally after action report.

Details of today's EDL rally in Nottingham are beginning to filter in. Once again media reports go out of their way to portray the EDL as drunken, masked hooligans and the UAF group as dear little angels. Funny. They don't show the UAF taunting the EDL marchers or throwing sticks at the police. And MSM photos of the UAF are thin on the ground - don't you wonder why. The only one I've been able to find so far shows their red fascist flags and a man clutching what appears to be a stout stick.

About 500 protesters from the English Defence League (EDL), many with their faces covered with scarves and hooded tops, marched through Nottingham yesterday decrying Allah and shouting: "We want our country back".

Other protesters waved Union Flags, St George's flags and placards which read: "Protect Women, No To Sharia" and "No Surrender".

Few would deny that Muslims too are victims of Islamist terror. But a new study by the Combating Terrorism Center in the US has shown that an overwhelming majority of al-Qaida victims are, in fact, co-religionists.[...]

Between 2004 and 2008, for example, al-Qaida claimed responsibility for 313 attacks, resulting in the deaths of 3,010 people. And even though these attacks include terrorist incidents in the West -- in Madrid in 2004 and in London in 2005 -- only 12 percent of those killed (371 deaths) were Westerners.

Grand jury seeks CAIR documents

The FBI have issued a grand jury subpoena to the attorney of one of the Muslim Mafia authors. The book alleges that CAIR engaged in criminal activity and uses over 10,000 pages of CAIR documents to back up their claims.

Last month CAIR was successful in gaining a temporary restraining ordering the authors of Muslim Mafia to return the documents. However, before the authors could comply with the court order the FBI issued a grand jury subpoena seeking those very same documents. Heh.

Looks like CAIR is going to be in a lot of trouble in the near future.

From Investigative Project

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) appears to be the subject of a federal criminal investigation. Although no formal statement to that effect has been made by law enforcement, FBI agents reportedly issued a grand jury subpoena last week seeking internal CAIR documents that are the subject of an ongoing civil lawsuit.[...]

CAIR won a temporary restraining order requiring that the Gaubatzes return 12,000 pages of documents. WorldNetDaily, publisher of Muslim Mafia, posted a story Nov. 24 claiming that FBI agents served a grand jury subpoena on the Gaubatzes' attorney. The move came as the attorneys were about to comply with the judge's order and give the documents back to CAIR. WND publisher Joseph Farah is quoted saying they weren't sure "Which takes precedence - a federal court order or an FBI warrant?"

Twelve die in drug war shootouts in Mexico

Other activists and some outspoken students have been killed recently because of their opposition to the Drug Cartels !

In the 4 years since Calderon has taken Office 15,000 people have been killed throughout Mexico , 4000 plus just in the Jaurez area !

....
MONTERREY, Mexico (Reuters) - Twelve people were killed in related gun battles in northern Mexico on Friday, one of the highest death tolls from a clash in the country's drug war in recent months.

Shooting broke out when soldiers approached a ranch during an operation near the city of Monterrey, military and local authorities told Reuters. Seven gunmen were killed in the shootout, they said.

Other gunmen, thought to be part of the Zetas drug gang, escaped the ranch and were chased by security forces, leading to another shootout that killed five people, including a bystander.

"So far we have 12 dead confirmed," a police source said. "Eleven were drug gang members and one was a civilian."

Since President Felipe Calderon took office in late 2006, more than 15,000 people have died in the drug war, which is tied to a fight between rival cartels for control of the lucrative trade.

Massive army deployments in cities such as Ciudad Juarez on the U.S. border have failed to quell the violence.

Danish Prostitutes Offer Free Sex to Climate Conference Delegates

Things are getting hot and heavy in Copenhagen ahead of the city's massive climate change conference.

The city's mayor warned hotels against patronizing Danish prostitutes during the upcoming U.N. summit — but the Copenhagen hookers are reportedly striking back by offering free sex to anyone who ignores the warnings.

Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard sent postcards to 160 Copenhagen hotels, urging guests and delegates to refrain from buying sex, Spiegel Online reported.

The city's prostitutes have retaliated by offering free sex to anyone who brings one of the cards to an assignation.

The response is being organized by the Sex Workers Interest Group (SIO), which says the mayor's move is "sheer discrimination."

"Ritt Bjerregaard is abusing her position as Lord Mayor in using her power to prevent us carrying out our perfectly legal job," SIO Spokeswoman Susanne Moller told the Danish Web site Avisen.dk. "I don't understand how she can be allowed to contact people in this way," .

Afghan ambassador: Afghans must talk to taliban

Yet another person saying that we need to talk to the taliban in order to end the war. The relaunched American war effort will be undermined unless Afghans are allowed to take the lead in talking to the Taliban, the Afghan ambassador to Washington told The Daily Telegraph.

Said Jawad said that future attempts at negotiation needed to be much better organised and co-ordinated, after years of disjointed initiatives.

"We have to have a systematic approach on talking to the Taliban," he said. "The current approach is kind of ad hoc and done by different sources, different countries and intelligent agencies, and that has created a lot of confusion in Afghanistan."

Turkish Minister urges muslims to take money out of Swiss bank accounts

Perhaps Turkey should look first to their own backyard where Christians, Jews, Hindus and just about any religious group other than islam can't build a place of worship. Countries like Saudi Arabia, and Egypt are prime examples.

NASA accused of hiding climate data

Mark Hess, public affairs director for the Goddard Space Flight Center which runs the GISS laboratory, said they are working on Mr. Horner's request, though he couldn't say why they have taken so long.[...]

NASA's GISS was forced to update its data in 2007 after questions were raised by Steve McIntyre, who runs ClimateAudit.com.

GISS had initially listed the warmest years as 1998, 1934, 2006, 1921 and 1931. After Mr. McIntyre's questions GISS rejiggered the list and 1934 was warmest, followed by 1998, 1921, 2006 and then 1931. But since then, the list has been rewritten again so it now runs 1998, 2006, 1934, 1921, 1999.[...]

Mr. Horner said he's seeking the data itself, but he also wants to see the chain of e-mails from scientists discussing the changes.[...]

NASA and CRU data are considered the backbone of much of the science that suggests the earth is warming due to manmade greenhouse gas emissions. NASA argues its data suggests this decade has been the warmest on record.

On the other hand, data from the University of Alabama-Huntsville suggests temperatures have been relatively flat for most of this decade.

Pakistan mosque attacks kills 30

Muslim's Killing Muslim's , The Muslim way !

....BBC
At least 30 people have been killed and many injured in a coordinated attack at a mosque in the city of Rawalpindi, Pakistani military officials say.

Reports suggest there was an initial suicide attack during Friday prayers followed by a series of explosions.

Ambulances have rushed to the scene in the busy Qasim Market area of the city.

The Pakistani security forces have been targeted in a series of recent attacks. Nineteen people were killed in an army base attack in Rawalpindi in October.

Military spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas said the attack appeared to have been coordinated.

"There were certainly more than one attacker, so there is a possibility that some of them may still be hiding in the vicinity."

The BBC's Orla Guerin, in Rawalpindi, says helicopters are hovering over the city, suggesting the security forces are still looking for attackers that may be on the run.

The area around the mosque has been heavily cordoned off by police.

Electronic Arts has ordered its Medal of Honor franchise to report for duty in war-torn Afghanistan.

The new first-person shooter game - expected in 2010 - will introduce a relatively unknown entity known as the Tier 1 Operator. The enigmatic special forces operative is apparently well known for assuming command of missions that "no one else can handle."

"[Our] development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience," EA explained in an official statement.

"Set against the backdrop of a rugged and brutal Afghan landscape, Medal of Honor depicts modern military operations through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today's most elite American soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism."

According to EA, Medal of Honor will feature a best-in-class single player campaign, as well as world-class multiplayer experience.

"When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today's war," said company spokesperson Greg Goodrich.

"The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war. We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience."

Jews back Muslims on minaret ban

What ? Da Joooos Are Backing the Muslims in their quest to overturn the 57 percent majority vote to Ban The Minarets ?

Oh ! Only because if it sticks , the ban could be utilized in other ways to help and support bans Against Synagogues , and Churchs !

Did anyone tell the Jews that their is a large percentage of Muslims and Muslim countries that would like to see them Wiped off the Face of the Earth ?

....the JerusalemPost
Citing religious discrimination, a diverse coalition of Jewish organizations is objecting to Switzerland's ban of minarets on local mosques.
Swiss voters this week approved by a strong majority a referendum outlawing the construction of minarets. The measure, pushed by the right-wing Swiss People's Party (SVP), was supported by 57 percent of the population.

However, Jewish organizations, realizing that a crackdown on Islam could have repercussions for Jews as well, have come to the defense of Muslim worshipers, arguing that the Swiss's move was unjustifiable.

Rabbi Pinchas Dunner, executive director of the Conference of European Rabbis, an Orthodox organization, said "a war on religious freedom cannot defeat Islamic extremists. The best weapon against radical Islam is support for moderate elements in the Muslim community and promoting interfaith dialogue.

Good luck with that Rabbi .

Mexico City police free dozens of "slave workers"

What a lovely damn country , South of our Border .
Kind of like Somalia !

....
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican police freed 107 people on Thursday who were imprisoned and forced to work in a clandestine factory in the capital, the prosecutor's office said.

Police raided the factory, which made clothing clasps, after several months of investigation following the complaint of a worker who had escaped from the facility.

Twenty-three people were arrested.

Mexican media reported the freed workers were suffering from malnutrition and showed signs of physical abuse.

Most were indigenous people from the south of the country and drug and alcohol addicts rounded up from Mexico City's streets, a spokeswoman for the city prosecutor's office said.

Some were lured into the factory with the promise of jobs. Investigators were also probing allegations that police officers helped round up some of those held in the factory during routine street patrols, Mexican media reported.

Mexicans trying to migrate to the United States are being increasingly targeted by Mexico's ruthless organized crime groups that have expanded into kidnapping and extortion in recent years.

Rocky Mountain Jihadi may face additional terror charges.

Zazi in cuffs

<---- The Rocky Mountain Jihadi in cuffs.

Najibullah Zazi was back in court today and is in "fairly good spirits considering his situation" according to his lawyer. (ahem)

From Bloomberg:

U.S. prosecutors said they may add new criminal charges to the case of Najibullah Zazi, an Afghan accused of planning to detonate a bomb in New York around the anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks.

Zazi, 24, a former airport shuttle-van driver, was engaged in what federal authorities called “a chilling and disturbing sequence of events” which “suggests the defendant was intent on making a bomb and being in New York on 9/11 for purposes of perhaps using such item.”

“It is likely there will be additional charges,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Knox told a federal judge today in a hearing in Brooklyn, New York. “Our anticipation is that we will be seeking a superseding indictment.”

Zazi appeared today before U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie. He was arrested and charged in September with terrorism conspiracy. He pleaded not guilty and remains in custody and faces as long as life in prison if convicted.

Prosecutors said in court papers that Zazi conspired with at least three others. Knox said previously that the evidence against Zazi is “voluminous” and “the conspiracy here is international in scope.”

Zazi remains in solitary confinement in federal jail in Brooklyn. His next court date is slated for February 16.

Syria: 'Overinflated tire' takes out bus carrying Iranian pilgrims.

Syrian bus crash - some tire

It must have been some tire - that's all I can say.

The close-up footage provided by the same outlet showed the wrecked rear part of the yellow pullman, including the engine. The bus' windows were all blown out. ''A nearby wall was also damaged,'' said Sammur. A witness told al-Manar TV of Hezbollah that the windows of surrounding buildings were shattered by the blast. per ANSAmed.

From VOA

Witnesses in Syria's capital say a blast hit a bus that had been carrying Iranian Shi'ite pilgrims. Three people were killed and dozens of others wounded. The explosion coincided with a visit to Damascus by a top Iranian official.

The suburban Damascus blast took place near a major Shi'ite shrine, popular with both Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims. Interior Minister Said Mohammed Sammour said the explosion, at a gas station, was not a terrorist act.

Sammour said one of bus' tires was overinflated, leading to the explosion that destroyed the vehicle. He said two workers and the bus driver were killed.

Security officials have launched an investigation and have closed off the area to journalists. Independent confirmation of the cause of the blast is unlikely. Syrian state media lagged several hours behind regional media in mentioning the explosion.

Mark Steyn on the ‘science’ of global warming

Have I ever mentioned that Mark Steyn is one of my favorite writers? He could be writing about the most apocalyptic story and still make you LOL. Here's an excerpt from his latest article. Be sure to read it all.

From Macleans

“ARGH. Just went back to check on synthetic production. Apparently—I have no memory of this at all—we’re not doing observed rain days! It’s all synthetic from 1990 onwards. So I’m going to need conditionals in the update program to handle that. And separate gridding before 1989. And what TF happens to station counts?

“OH F–K THIS. It’s Sunday evening, I’ve worked all weekend, and just when I thought it was done I’m hitting yet another problem that’s based on the hopeless state of our databases. There is no uniform data integrity, it’s just a catalogue of issues that continues to grow as they’re found.”

Thus spake the Settled Scientist: “OH F–K THIS.” And on the basis of “OH F–K THIS” the world’s enlightened progressives will assemble at Copenhagen for the single greatest advance in punitive liberalism ever perpetrated on the developed world.

Hizbollah to get "an arm and an eye inside the Security Council."

Nothing to see here folks...just another terror organization at the UN. It's par for the course.

<-- Islamofascist Hizbollah supporters.

From Fox News

On Jan. 1, 2010, Hezbollah and its de-facto ruler Iran could have a direct line to the Security Council and gain access to all the confidential information to which Security Council members are privy.

In October the U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly voted for Lebanon to be the Asian bloc's new non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for a 2-year term.

Earlier today the Lebanese Government endorsed Hezbollah's demand allowing it to keep its huge weapons arsenal. In doing so the Lebanese government is able to maintain its shaky unity government in which Hezbollah, a designated terrorist group by the U.S. state department, holds two ministries.[...]

Analysts point to the influence wielded by the Iranian-funded Hezbollah in Lebanon as a cause for concern over Lebanon's acceptance into the Security Council. Walid Phares, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and Fox News contributor on terrorism, was one of the architects of U.N. Resolution 1559 which passed in 2004 and called for the immediate disarmament of armed militias. Given the new structure of the Lebanese government that now includes Hezbollah, he says the organization will have "an arm and an eye inside the Security Council."

Somalia: Cross dressing bomber kills 19 at graduation ceremony.

Students, doctors, government officials (including a Somali-American) and journalists all massacred in the name of the Religion of Peace.

From CNN:

A male suicide bomber dressed in women's clothing attacked a graduation ceremony in the Somali capital of Mogadishu Thursday, the Somali president said, according to a local journalist.

The African Union said 19 people were killed in the attack, which struck a ceremony being held at Hotel Shamo for Banadir University's medical school. The government said three government ministers lay among the dead, and journalists reported that two journalists were killed.

Nine students and two doctors also were killed, according to a professor at Banadir University.

At a news conference, Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed displayed what he said was the body of the bomber, according to a Radio Mogadishu journalist who was there. CNN is not naming the journalist for security reasons. (Dhimmitude in action.) The president blamed the Islamist group Al-Shabaab for the attack. The body the president displayed had a beard. The president also showed the remains of the suicide belt and shreds of a hijab -- a loose, dress-like garment -- at the news conference, according to the journalist.

The government named the three slain ministers as Education Minister Abdullahi Wayel, Health Minister Qamar Aden and Higher Education Minister Ibrahim Hassan Adow.

Adow, a Somali-American, served as the foreign secretary of the Islamic Courts Union when it held Mogadishu in 2006.

Sports Minister Suleman Olad Roble was hospitalized in critical condition, his relatives told local media. Initial reports after the bombing said Roble was killed in the blast.

The journalists killed were Mohamed Amiin Abdullah of Shabelle Media Network and freelance cameraman Hassan Ahmed Hagi, who worked closely with the network.

Meanwhile, the rest world leaders go, 'tsk-tsk-tsk' and issue boilerplate statements condemning the bombing and deploring the action. Yep, that'll do it all right.

US Air Force orders 2,200 PS3's

The Air Force order 2,200 PS3's but they're not for playing Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed II or COD. The 2,200 PS3's will be built in to a supercomputer that will process radar images, HD video processing and neuromorphic computing (whatever the hell that is).

From Information Week

The U.S. Air Force is looking to buy 2,200 Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles to build out a research supercomputer, according to an document posted on the federal government's procurement Web site.

The PlayStation 3s will be used at the Air Force Research Laboratory's information directorate in Rome, N.Y., where they will be added to an existing cluster of 336 PlayStation 3s being used to conduct supercomputing research.[...]

The Air Force has used the cluster to test a method of processing multiple radar images into higher resolution composite images (known as synthetic aperture radar image formation), high-def video processing, and "neuromorphic computing," or building computers with brain-like properties.

Iranian doctor witness to Mullahcracy tortures dies from poisoned salad

An Iranian doctor who witnessed the atrocities against the Iran protesters has died of a drug overdose. A hypertension drug, propranolol, was found in his system and traces of it were found in a salad served to the doctor. The mullahcracy has given conflicting reports of the doctor's death. First saying it was a car accident then saying it was suicide.

The Doctor's father doesn't believe it was suicide and several Iranian blogs are stating that the mullahs had the doctor killed because he knew too much. Yahoo! News

H/T: GM

CAIRO, Egypt - A doctor who blew the whistle on the torture of jailed protesters in Iran died of poisoning from an overdose of an anti-hypertension drug in his salad, prosecutors say, fueling opposition fears that he was killed because of what he knew about the abuse.[...]

The 26-year-old doctor, Ramin Pourandarjani, died on Nov. 10 in mysterious circumstances - with authorities initially saying he was in a car accident, had a heart attack or committed suicide.

Pourandarjani was a doctor at Kahrizak, a prison on Tehran's outskirts where hundreds of opposition protesters were taken after being arrested in the crackdown following June's disputed presidential elections. The facility became so notorious that it was ordered shut down by Iran's supreme leader as reports of abuse and torture became an embarassment to the clerical rulers and security forces.

Pourandarjani later testified to a parliamentary committee and reportedly told them that one young protester he treated died from heavy torture.

Gen. McChrystal: Let the taliban quit with dignity

More and more it looks like the Obama administration is looking for ways to negotiate an end to the Afghan war. MSNBC

KABUL, Afghanistan - The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said Wednesday that the Afghan government and its international partners should use the coming 18 months to convince the Taliban they can't win and offer militants a way to quit the insurgency "with dignity."[...]

"This (war) will go on for quite awhile, but it will be decided, in my view, in the next one or two years," McChrystal said. "I believe that by this time next year we'll see a level of progress."

McChrystal earlier told reporters the 18-month timetable was enough time to build up Afghan forces and convince the people that they can eventually take care of their own security.

He said the Afghan government and the coalition should also use that period "to convince the Taliban and the people from whom they recruit that they cannot win — that there is not a way for the insurgency to win militarily."
How will you convince the taliban that there is no way of winning when Obama stated that we'll be out of Afghanistan by 2017? They just have to lay low for a while and then they can reclaim Afghanistan.

Home association orders Medal of Honor winner to remove flagpole

An absolute disgrace! Times Dispatch

Col. Van T. Barfoot, a local Medal of Honor winner, is under the gun from his Henrico County community's homeowner association.

In a five-paragraph letter to Barfoot that he received yesterday, Barfoot is being ordered to remove a flagpole from his yard. The decorated veteran of three wars, now 90 years old, raises the American flag every morning on the pole, then lowers and folds the flag at dusk each day in a three-corner military fashion.

In a priority mail letter, the Coates & Davenport law firm in Richmond is ordering Barfoot to remove the pole by 5 p.m. Friday or face "legal action being brought to enforce the Covenants and Restrictions against you." The letter states that Barfoot will be subject to paying all legal fees and costs in any successful legal proceeding pursued by the homeowner association's board.

China announces more death sentences for Xinjiang riot

Never a country to let you down when it comes to harsh justice ! China executes 5 more over the ethnic rioting in Xinjiang !
The one thing left out of this little article , The fact that the Separartists they are talking about , Are Muslims !
Not just any Muslims , Upity radical Muslims , the kind that think they can force their agenda (Sharia law? ) Down your throats , Because Allah say's so !

....
BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese court on Thursday handed out a further five death sentences to people convicted of murder and other crimes during ethnic rioting in the far western Xinjiang region in July in which almost 200 people died.

The official Xinhua news agency reported that a court in Urumqi, Xinjiang's regional capital, also jailed two defendants for life.

Last month, China executed nine people convicted of violent crimes in the ethnic unrest between Uighurs, a Turkic minority that calls Xinjiang its homeland, and majority Han Chinese.

In Xinjiang's worst ethnic violence in decades, Uighurs attacked Han Chinese in Urumqi, after taking to the streets to protest against attacks on Uighur workers at a factory in southern China in June that left two Uighurs dead.

Han Chinese in Urumqi sought revenge two days later.

The violence left 197 people, mostly Han Chinese, dead and more than 1,600 wounded, according to official figures.

Energy-rich Xinjiang, strategically located in central Asia, has been struck in recent years by bombings, attacks and riots blamed by Beijing on Uighur separatists demanding an independent "East Turkistan."

Many Uighurs resent government restrictions on their religion and culture and a massive influx of Han Chinese settlers that have in some areas reduced them to a minority in the region.

Rights groups and Uighur activists also say Beijing grossly exaggerates the threat from militants to justify harsh controls.

....FoxNews
ROME — A group of European scientists say they have successfully connected a robotic hand to a man who had lost an arm, allowing him to feel sensations in the artificial hand and control it with his thoughts.

The experiment lasted a month. Scientists say it was the first time an amputee has been able to make complex movements using his mind to control a biomechanic hand connected to his nervous system.

The Italian-led team said at a news conference Wednesday in Rome that last year they implanted electrodes into the arm of the patient, who had lost his left hand and forearm in a car accident.

The electrodes were removed after a month, during which the man learned to wiggle the robotic fingers and make other movements.

And then there was this !

How the Ft. Hood jihadi's terror imam got away - an update.

Mind-blowing and unbelievably frustrating.

From the Denver Post:

A Muslim cleric who communicated with the Army psychiatrist accused in the Fort Hood shootings was charged with passport fraud in Colorado in 2002. [...] U.S. Attorney David Gaouette (GOW-ette) in Denver said al-Awlaki was charged with passport fraud after a California agent discovered al-Awlaki lied on a 1990 Social Security application. The imam said he was born in Yemen, instead of Las Cruces, N.M., where he was born in 1971.

But federal prosecutors said Wednesday they dismissed the charge before the cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki, could be arrested because they learned the charge was invalid.

Here's how:

"... Gaouette says prosecutors dismissed those charges a few months later after learning that a Social Security number al-Awlaki used to obtain the passport was valid.)

Here's why:

But after the charge was filed, Gaouette said, prosecutors discovered that al-Awlaki had corrected his place of birth with the Social Security Administration and that his passport application was therefore proper. A 10-year statue of limitations on charges of lying to the Social Security Administration had expired, so prosecutors had no case against the imam.

FYI - The reason he listed his birthplace as Yemen when he filed for this Social Security application? He wanted to be eligible for a foreign student visa. Now, why would he want to do that? FINANCIAL AID.

They discovered that the U.S.-born cleric attended Colorado State University in the early 1990's on an F-1 foreign student visa, stating on the visa application that he was actually born in Yemen and not New Mexico. This enabled authorities to charge Awlaki with passport fraud, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Man, there is steam coming out of my ears, but you know what really ticks me off? If the charges were so invalid then why did the federal prosecutors in Colorado go on to say this?

And even if the passport charge had been pursued, a prosecutor who was among those who called for the dismissal says the imam was unlikely to face much jail time if convicted.

How much jail time according to recent Obama appointee, Gaouette? "Six months, at the most."

That's it? That's all they've got? You have got to be kidding me!

File this one under Reason # 3989 that treating terrorists as ordinary criminals just does not work.

Ahmadinejad: Not A 'Damn Thing' Israel Can Do to Stop Nuclear Program

Iran Is Nuke Proof ?

....Foxnews
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said there isn't a "damn thing" Israel can do to stop its nuclear program, Reuters reported.

"The Zionist regime (Israel) and its (western) backers cannot do a damn thing to stop Iran's nuclear work," Ahmadinejad said in a televised speech, according to Reuters.

Iran said Wednesday it will enrich uranium to a higher level on its own, the latest indication the country was rejecting a U.N.-backed proposal aimed at thwarting any effort by Tehran to make material for a nuclear weapon.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made the comment after expressing frustration with the ongoing negotiations over the proposal that Iran exchange the bulk of its low-enriched uranium for more highly enriched fuel rods to be used in a medical research nuclear reactor.

Low-enriched uranium can be used as fuel for nuclear energy, but enriched to much higher levels, it can be used as material for a weapon. Iran currently has one operating enrichment facility that has churned out around 3,300 pounds of 3.5 percent enriched uranium over the past years, but the country needs fuel enriched to 20 percent to power a medical research reactor.

"I declare here that with the grace of God, the Iranian nation will produce 20 percent (enriched uranium) fuel and anything it needs itself," Ahmadinejad told a cheering crowd of thousands in the central city Isfahan. "We told them, give us the 20 percent fuel (in an exchange)," he said. "But then they started adding conditions. So we said, if you want to give us the fuel we'll take it. If not, then fine and goodbye."

Ahmadinejad, in a speech Tuesday night, indicated Iran was through negotiating the nuclear issue.

"We were interested, from the beginning, in solving all the problems related to the nuclear issue," he said. "Now, the issue, in our opinion, is over."

With that kind of Attitude , Iran May be Over .

Remember when Obama said the troops made a "great photo op'?

Obama dissing f-22 He wasn't kidding.

The Commander in Chief playing politics with our troops. ----->

From The Cable. (h/t FReeper Yo-Yo)

When President Obama spoke to troops at Alaska's Elmendorf Air Force Base last month, the unit there parked a shiny new F-22 fighter plane in the hanger. But according to multiple sources, White House aides demanded the plane be changed to an older F-15 fighter because they didn't want Obama speaking in front of the F-22, a controversial program he fought hard to end.

"White House aides actually made them remove the F-22-said they would not allow POTUS to be pictured with the F-22 in any way, shape, or form," one source close to the unit relayed.

Stephen Lee, a public affairs officer at Elmendorf, confirmed to The Cable that the F-22 was parked in the hanger and then was replaced by an F-15 at the White House's behest.

The airmen there took offense to the Obama aides' demand, sources told The Cable, seeing it as a slight to the folks who are operating the F-22 proudly every day. They also expressed bewilderment that the White House staff would even care so much as to make an issue out of the fact that the F-22 was placed in the hanger with the president.

Most powerful Muslim in UK - about that egg on her face...

Baroness Warsi's egg attackers <--- Muslim attackers of Baroness Warsi, the most powerful Muslim in Britain. I say take some of that £600,000 and buy the whole lot of them a one way ticket to the third world Muslim shi&hole of their choice. But that's just me.

On Monday, Baroness Warsi got egged by her a group of her constituents and fellow Religion of Peacers. At the time she poohed-poohed the actions of the group as "idiots who did not represent the majority of British Muslims" and they "did not represent the true feelings of the thousands of moderate Muslims in the town".

Oh really?
After all, it was in Luton in March that a similar group of young Islamic protesters shouted obscenities at members of the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment taking part in an Afghan war homecoming parade.

When a Mecca Bingo Hall opened, its windows were smashed after some Muslims claimed the neon 'Mecca' sign insulted their religion because it associated the name of their holy city with gambling. Advertising hoardings featuring women deemed to be showing too much flesh have also been defaced.

Over the past 18 months or so, around 30 non-Muslim homes have been attacked. One white couple in their 80s had bricks hurled through their front window. A West Indian woman in her 70s was watching TV when a metal beer keg crashed through her bay window.

The culprits have never been caught, but the victims are in no doubt that they were targeted by a small group of religious extremists who want all non-Muslims out of Bury Park.

Army asks: Is Ft. Hood Jihadi insane?

This just in: Additional charges for Ft. Hood jihadi.

The Army has charged the suspect in the Fort Hood shooting spree with 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.

The charges are in addition to the 13 premeditated murder charges filed against Maj. Nidal (Nee-DAHL) Hasan (Huh-SAHN') [Ed. Note: don't you just love the Washington Post with their little Muslim pronunciation keys?) in the Nov. 5 massacre at Fort Hood.

From ABC News:

The Army wants a formal inquiry into the sanity of accused Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan, Hasan's lawyer John Galligan told ABC News, and the request could be approved as early as Wednesday afternoon. [...] he received notice via e-mail at 7:45 p.m Tuesday that the Army would ask to convene a "sanity board" to evaluate Hasan's mental state.

According to Galligan, the e-mail said, "Given the magnitude and seriousness of the crimes alleged in the specifications, such alleged conduct makes me believe the accused lacks mental responsibility and capacity."

Okay, Hasan's lawyer is clearly playing all the angles, but doesn't it also sound like the Army is giving Hasan the bum's rush? To my way of thinking, the Sanity Board removes minimizes the Muslim angle and gives Hasan an easy out. It also takes some of the heat off Hasan's superiors. I don't know maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age.

Galligan said he would like to "put the brakes on" until "we can be in receipt of all the evidence that a sanity board should properly consider before making its ultimate findings on this important issue."

"I'm concerned that the prosecution, by doing this at this juncture, is just trying to rush the procedure," said Galligan. "Normally these requests come from the defense, and I have never had one where the defendant is still in the ICU."

Galligan said he is also concerned about the composition of the "Sanity Board," since it would be likely to include Army psychiatrists. Major Hasan is himself a psychiatrist, and his alleged actions have raised questions about his training and about whether warning signs were missed by the Army's medical personnel.

Stay tuned. According to Mr. Galligan a determination on the Sanity Board could be made as early as this afternoon.

Somali sea gangs lure investors at pirate lair

Oh , you can see it now , A modern Pirates of the Caribbean style resort , where if you don't pay attention to local laws you could be beheaded , or your wife/ girlfriend could be stoned to death for not covering up properly .
What a joke !

....
HARADHEERE, Somalia (Reuters) - In Somalia's main pirate lair of Haradheere, the sea gangs have set up a cooperative to fund their hijackings offshore, a sort of stock exchange meets criminal syndicate.

Heavily armed pirates from the lawless Horn of Africa nation have terrorized shipping lanes in the Indian Ocean and strategic Gulf of Aden, which links Europe to Asia through the Red Sea.

The gangs have made tens of millions of dollars from ransoms and a deployment by foreign navies in the area has only appeared to drive the attackers to hunt further from shore.

It is a lucrative business that has drawn financiers from the Somali diaspora and other nations -- and now the gangs in Haradheere have set up an exchange to manage their investments.

One wealthy former pirate named Mohammed took Reuters around the small facility and said it had proved to be an important way for the pirates to win support from the local community for their operations, despite the dangers involved.

"Four months ago, during the monsoon rains, we decided to set up this stock exchange. We started with 15 'maritime companies' and now we are hosting 72. Ten of them have so far been successful at hijacking," Mohammed said.

"The shares are open to all and everybody can take part, whether personally at sea or on land by providing cash, weapons or useful materials ... we've made piracy a community activity."

Islamist rebels claim Russian rail bombing

DUH !

....
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Islamist militants on Wednesday claimed responsibility for a bombing that derailed a Russian express train, killing 26 people, and vowed further "acts of sabotage" in a letter posted on a rebel website.

Friday night's attack on the luxury Nevsky Express running between Moscow and St Petersburg was the worst in Russia outside the North Caucasus in five years and raised fears of a new wave of bombings in major cities.

"This operation was prepared and carried out...pursuant to the orders of the Emir of the Caucasus Emirate Doku Umarov," the KavkazCenter.com website said, quoting a letter it said it received from Islamist rebels.

Umarov is Russia's most wanted guerrilla leader and leads a jihad insurgency which aims to free the mainly Muslim North Caucasus from Moscow's rule.

A second, smaller bomb detonated by mobile phone injured Russia's top detective as he visited the crime scene on Saturday. The Investigative Committee said its chief Alexander Bastrykin was hospitalised as a result of the blast but would not comment on his condition.

The militants' letter said the train bombing was part of a campaign of sabotage against strategic economic targets.

"These acts of sabotage will continue for as long as those occupying the Caucasus do not stop their policy of killing ordinary Muslims," the letter said.

And if the "Ordinary Muslims" stop all their terrorist activities which kill innocent people , And just plain get over themselves , maybe things would be better ?

Our long, national nightmare begins. Gitmo terrorist asks judge to dismiss his case.

Ahmed khalffan ghailala What right does this terrorist have to our constitutional protections? ---->

From the NYT:

Lawyers for a terrorism suspect once held at Guantánamo Bay who is now facing prosecution in Manhattan asked a judge on Tuesday to dismiss his case on the ground that his nearly five years in detention denied him his constitutional right to a speedy trial.

The terrorism suspect, Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani was captured in Pakistan in 2004, held for two years in secret prisons run by the C.I.A., and then moved in 2006 to the naval base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. During his detention, he says, he was subjected to cruel interrogation techniques and denied a lawyer.

Although Mr. Ghailani faces charges stemming from a terrorist act that predated the Sept. 11 attacks, his speedy trial motion could foreshadow issues that could arise in the prosecution of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the professed organizer of the 9/11 plot, and four other Guantánamo detainees who were recently ordered sent to New York for trial.

We respectfully submit that this case presents possibly the most unique and egregious example of a speedy trial violation in American jurisprudence to date,” Mr. Ghailani’s lawyers said in a motion that was heavily censored because of its reliance on classified information.

The motion was originally filed several weeks ago with Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, but it was kept almost entirely under seal pending a review by the government. The new version, with many pages blacked out, was made public on Tuesday.
