Homeland Security too incompetent to carry out it's job says Inspector General

The Department of Homeland Security is “is functional only in name,” according to the Inspector General.

Janet Incompalitano. CNS

(CNSNews.com) – The Homeland Security Department’s National Operations Center (NOC) is “unable” to do its job of ensuring coordination among the 22 federal agencies that make up the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and focuses too much on disaster management rather than terrorism prevention, according to its own inspector general.

The National Operations Center, in fact, functions largely in name only, and current operations apparently have diminished its ability to respond to terrorist threats.

US border gruards knew pantybomber was on flight 253

US border agents discovered that the pantybomber was on the Customs and Border Protection database only after he was on board and the plane was in the air.

First of all, pantybomber was never suppose to be allowed on the plane since he did not have a passport. But doesn't it make you feel safe that the TSA is only able to identify potential terrorists when they might already by in the air?

Why didn't the TSA warn the flight crew once they knew that a potential terrorist was on board? They could have at least told the crew to be cautious of a certain individual sitting in seat 19A.

From Telegraph

Officials from the Transport Security Administration discovered Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's name on the Customs and Border Protection database after he boarded his Northwest flight in Amsterdam and were waiting to question him upon landing in Detroit, according to senior law enforcement officials.[...]

The opportunity for detecting a passenger as a potential threat before boarding is limited, a senior Homeland Security official said, adding that in-depth vetting only begins once the flight manifest has been generated, a few hours before takeoff.

If the intelligence on Abdulmutallab had been discovered sooner, the officials said, he could have been interrogated before boarding the flight.

Report on airline bomber to 'shock'

Remember back to the Bush 2 , era for a Minute .
Do you all remember the Democrats bitching their fool Brains out about how George Bush And Dick Cheney were trying to use "Fear" as a Tactic to Scare the crap out of all of us ? How things were greatly "Exaggerated" just to scare us "Dumb" unknowing sheeple ?
Hmmmmmm! Now that the Libtards are being held to task about "Real" Homeland security , it is a Whole different story !
Not so easy is it Jackass's .

(USA Today )WASHINGTON — White House national security adviser James Jones says Americans will feel "a certain shock" when they read an account being released Thursday of the missed clues that could have prevented the alleged Christmas Day bomber from ever boarding the plane.

President Obama "is legitimately and correctly alarmed that things that were available, bits of information that were available, patterns of behavior that were available, were not acted on," Jones said in an interview Wednesday with USA TODAY.

"That's two strikes," Obama's top White House aide on defense and foreign policy issues said, referring to the foiled bombing of the Detroit-bound airliner and the shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, in November. In that case, too, officials failed to act when red flags were raised about an Army psychiatrist, Maj. Nidal Hasan. He has been charged with killing 13 people.
Jones said Obama "certainly doesn't want that third strike, and neither does anybody else."

The White House plans to release an unclassified report Thursday on what went wrong in the incident involving a 23-year-old Nigerian man who tried to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight.

In Detroit Wednesday, the suspect, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, was indicted on charges that include attempted murder and trying to use a weapon of mass destruction to kill nearly 300 people. Abdulmutallab, who faces life in prison if convicted, is to appear for the first time in federal court Friday.

what a time Not to be at home ! I always miss the good stuff .

He has told investigators that he was trained and equipped in Yemen by a group affiliated with al-Qaeda. His father had gone to the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria to warn American officials that his son seemed to be turning to extremist ideology.

Even so, Abdulmutallab's visa to the U.S. wasn't revoked and he wasn't placed on the "no-fly" list.

So , I say we return the favor to the Dumocrats , and start making some real noise to the Obamasiah and all his Minions ( The Obamamaggots ) about the security of this country , just like they did to George Bush .

Media killings, deaths hit 132 in 2009, report says

Not a good year to be a journalist , Especially in a third world Country !

GENEVA (Reuters) - The Philippines, Mexico, Somalia and Russia were the most dangerous countries for journalists in 2009, a global media group reported on Wednesday.

A total of 132 journalists and support staff were killed or died while working last year, the International News Safety Institute, INSI, said.

Just three international reporters were among those deliberately targeted, the dead being overwhelmingly local journalists covering dangerous stories like high-level crime and corruption for national news media.

The Brussels-based INSI, which monitors statistics from around the world, said 98 of the dead were murdered because of their reporting activities.

"Journalists continue to die because they dare to shine a light on the darkest corners of societies. This is the shocking price we pay for our news," INSI Director Rodney Pinder said in a statement released in Geneva with the body's annual figures.

State Department handing out 'Diversity Visas' to Yemen like candy on Hallo'een

The US State Department has handed out over a 1000 'diversity visas' to Yemeni's since 2000.

From CNS

(CNSNews.com) - The State Department has awarded 1,011 special “diversity visas” allowing Yemeni nationals to immigrate to the United States since 2000, the year 17 U.S. sailors were killed when the USS Cole was attacked by terrorists in the Yemeni port of Aden.

The "diversity visas" are designed to encourage immigration from countries that do not otherwise send significant numbers of immigrants to the United States.[...]

That the U.S. would encourage immigration from Yemen during the past decade is of interest because of the terrorist problem in that country.

Yemeni forces have arrested three suspected al-Qaeda militants who were wounded in a raid on Monday, security sources say.

They were captured at a hospital north of the capital, Sanaa. AFP news agency says they include Mohammed al-Hanq, a key local al-Qaeda leader.

They and the US embassy had been temporarily closed in response to what was described as an al-Qaeda threat.

AFP quoted an unnamed security official saying: "Mohammed al-Hanq and two others who were wounded were captured in a hospital in Amran."

The agency said the local al-Qaeda leader was thought to be behind the security threats that had prompted the embassy closures.

Orange Bowl coldest in history

ALL BUNDLED UP
When Lenny and Bonnie Hines left their home in Davenport, Iowa, last week for a vacation in the Sunshine State, the last thing they expected was to have to be bundling up.

But that's what they were doing at Land Shark Stadium as temperatures dipped to record lows in the 76th annual Orange Bowl.

The temperature of 49 degrees at kickoff made Tuesday's game the coldest Orange Bowl game ever. The previous record was 57 degrees when Kansas beat Virginia Tech 24-21 in 2008.

``We're just mad because it's cold and we haven't been able to wear shorts at all on this vacation,'' Lenny Hines said. ``The hottest it's been since we've been in Florida is 63 degrees. But we aren't complaining. There were five, six inches of snow on the ground when we left, and I think the high was 10 [degrees].''

Obama calls bomb attempt an intelligence "screw-up"

"We dodged a bullet but just barely," the White House quoted him as telling the security chiefs. "It was averted by brave individuals not because the system worked, and that is not acceptable."

Dodged a Bullet , That is a great understatement !
If The Obama administration really wants to clamp down on security loopholes , then I have a major suggestion For them ...
Try looking at Al Qaida and the Taliban along with Al Shabaab and Hamas As Terrorists !

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The attempted Christmas Day bombing of a U.S. airliner was a potentially disastrous "screw up" by the intelligence community, President Barack Obama said on Tuesday as he vowed urgent action to plug holes in air security.

Sharpening his tone as he sought to limit political fallout over the intelligence breakdown, Obama said spy agencies had enough information to uncover the December 25 plot to blow up a Detroit-bound transatlantic flight from Amsterdam but failed to "connect those dots."

On Obama's first full day back from his Hawaii vacation, he faced the challenge of spotlighting national security -- suddenly pushed to the top of his agenda -- while not looking distracted from other pressing public concerns like reducing double-digit U.S. unemployment.

"We have to do better and we will do better. And we will do it quickly," Obama said after a two-hour meeting with his national security team to discuss what he has called "human and systemic failures" in the Christmas Day incident.

Obama used his sharpest language behind closed doors, telling more than two dozen security chiefs gathered in the Situation Room, "This was a screw-up that could have been disastrous," according to the White House.

"We dodged a bullet but just barely," the White House quoted him as telling the security chiefs. "It was averted by brave individuals not because the system worked, and that is not acceptable."

UK: Muslim protestors get day in court. And special treatment galore.

Muslim protestors luton
The a-holes refused to stand for the judge and the judge 'compromised' by allowing them to enter the court after her. To add insult to injury, they were given an extra 20 minutes on their lunch break to go pray at a nearby mosque. A special 'quiet room' has also been set up in the court house to allow them to pray during the rest of the trial.

Dear God, what on earth are they thinking over there in the UK?

From the Daily Mail:

Seven Muslim protesters accused of screaming insults at soldiers during an Iraq homecoming parade refused to stand for a judge yesterday.

The men are alleged to have shouted 'murderers', 'rapists', 'terrorists' and 'baby killers' while waving placards at the 2nd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment marching through Luton.

At the town's magistrates' court, they denied using threatening, abusive, insulting words and behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm and distress to others.

The defendants were given an extra 20 minutes on top of their lunch break to go to pray at a mosque a few minutes' walk away.

A separate 'quiet' room has been set aside for their regular prayer intervals for the rest of the week. The seven accused men are Munin Abdul, 28, Jalal Ahmed, 21, Jabair Ahmed, 19, Yousaf Bashir, 29, Shajjadar Choudhury, 31, Ziaur Rahman, 32, and white Muslim Ibrahim Anderson, 32, all from Luton.

They are alleged to have chanted: 'British army murderers', 'British soldiers burn in hell' and 'Baby killers shame on you'.

British snipers receive death threats from British al Qaeda

British snipers who returned home from Afghanistan are receiving death threats from British members of al Qaeda.

Just where exactly is the front line of the war against islamic terrorists? Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia...Britain. Telegraph

British-based Islamist radicals are targeting Army soldiers - especially snipers - returning from fighting in southern Afghanistan, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

In one case, a police armed response unit was called to the home of a sniper last September amid fears he was about to be murdered or abducted by al-Qaeda terrorists.

The Corporal, serving with a Scottish Regiment, was one of a two-man sniping team which shot dead 32 Taliban fighters during a six-month tour of Afghanistan.

The soldier – whom this newspaper has agreed not to name – was temporarily forced to leave home his wife and family after details of his service in Afghanistan were made public.

It can also be disclosed that a second sniper who recently returned home to the Glasgow area received death threats from suspected British-based al-Qaeda sympathisers after his personal details became known.

Michael yon <--- Another isolated extremist.

Got arrested at the Seattle airport for refusing to say how much money I make. (The uniformed ones say I was not "arrested", but they definitely handcuffed me.) Their videos and audios should show that I was polite, but simply refused questions that had nothing to do with national security.

Port authority police eventually came -- they were professionals -- and rescued me from the border bullies.

And then this update shortly after:

When they handcuffed me, I said that no country has ever treated me so badly. Not China. Not Vietnam. Not Afghanistan. Definitely not Singapore or India or Nepal or Germany, not Brunei, not Indonesia, or Malaysia, or Kuwait or Qatar or United Arab Emirates. No county has treated me with the disrespect can that can be expected from our border bullies.

Dems to bar Republicans from health care negotiations.

Just wanted to get this on the record...

From AP:

House and Senate Democrats intend to bypass the traditional joint conference committee when they negotiate a final compromise on health care legislation, officials said yesterday, a move that will exclude Republican lawmakers and limit their ability to force votes that might delay action.

Democratic aides said the final compromise talks would essentially be a three-way negotiation involving top Democrats in the House and Senate and the White House, giving unusual latitude to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.

Those officials said there are no plans to appoint a formal House-Senate conference committee, the method Congress most often uses to reconcile differing bills. The plan is to skip the formal meetings, reach an agreement, then have the two bodies vote. A 60-vote Senate majority would be required for final passage.

Beyonce shakes her booty for terror supporting wife beater

From the NY Post:

Beyonce performed for an hour on New Year's Eve at a party thrown by terror-backing Libyan dictator Moammar Khadafy's son, Hannibal, who has a long record of violence against women.

Beyoncé performed five songs in a sexy black leotard at the Nikki Beach club on St. Barts in front of a crowd that included her husband Jay-Z,Usher, Microsoft founder Paul Allen and Lindsay Lohan.

We couldn't confirm how much Beyoncé was paid for the gig, but last year, Mariah Carey reportedly pocketed $1 million for performing at Nikki Beach.

Just a week earlier, on Christmas Day, Hannibal, 33 -- also known as Moutassim -- allegedly attacked his wife, Aline Skaf, in his suite at Claridge's in London. Three of his security staff were arrested for obstructing police. Skaf was reportedly hospitalized with a broken nose while Hannibal was whisked away in a diplomatic car.

In July 2008, he and his then-pregnant wife were arrested on charges of beating their servants in a Geneva hotel. They denied the charges, which were dropped after the servants received compensation.

Hannibal was also arrested in 2005 in a Paris hotel for allegedly punching Skaf. He then allegedly brandished a 9mm handgun and went on a furniture-smashing rampage in his hotel suite. No charges were brought.

A year earlier, he led a police chase on the Champs Elysees, reaching speeds of 90 mph in his Porsche. No charges were brought after Libyan diplomats apologized. And in 2001, he allegedly attacked three Italian policemen with a fire extinguisher, but demanded diplomatic immunity.

Reps for Beyoncé and Nikki Beach did not return calls and e-mails.

Swiss reject headscarf ban for schools

Too bad. They were doing so well in setting the parameters for Muslim assimilation in Switzerland.

From RNW:

The cantonal parliament of Zurich rejected on Monday a proposal by the far right Swiss People’s Party (SVP) – Switzerland’s largest party - to ban headscarves for female Muslim students in Swiss schools. The proposal was aimed at “instilling respect of Swiss values in schools”, the party’s leadership says, and that people who settled in Switzerland needed to realise “they could not turn up to work in a headscarf”.

Adrian Amstutz, parliamentarian and senior member of the SVP is one of the strongest supporters of those bans: “Muslims must be spurred to integrate into society”, he said to Swiss News Worldwide. The more moderate, centre right Christian Democratic Party, has been advocating the ban on burqas, a body covering including a face veil, in a bid to defend women’s rights.

Interestingly enough, Egypt recently banned the niqab during university examinations. You can guess why...

The government said it brought in the ban in part because students, male and female, were sitting exams disguised as other candidates by wearing a face veil.

Saudi Arabia: Bin Laden daughter should be allowed to leave Iran

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal told a news conference in Riyadh that Iman should be allowed to leave Iran.

"We consider this to be a purely humanitarian issue and we are in talks with the Iranian government to treat it as such and leave the choice of leaving to the girl," he said.

Asharq al-Awsat, owned by a cousin of Prince Saud, has reported that the Saudi embassy has issued Iman with a temporary travel permit to allow her to return to Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan: CIA bomber was an al Qaeda blogger?

Geez. This just keeps going from bad to worse.

From NBC:

Al-Balawi was arrested by Jordanian intelligence more than a year ago. He had moderated the main al-Qaida chat forum before his arrest and was known online as Abu Dujanah al-Khurasani.

“Abu Dujanah was an active member of jihadi forums,” said Evan Kohlmann, who tracks jihadi Web sites for NBC News. “He was actually an administrator on the now-defunct Al-Hesbah forum, previously al-Qaida's main chat forum.”

The Jordanians believed that al-Balawi had been successfully reformed and brought over to the American and Jordanian side. They set him up as an agent and sent him to Afghanistan and Pakistan to infiltrate al-Qaida.

His mission? To find and meet Ayman al Zawahiri.

Jordanian royal guards repatriated jordanian handler And his Jordanian handler (also killed in the blast) was a distant relative of the Jordanian royal family.

<--- The body of Jordanian intelligence agent is returned from Pakistan to Jordan.

The remains of a Jordanian distantly related to the royal family who was killed in an attack in Afghanistan were repatriated on Saturday and received by King Abdullah II, Queen Rania and other royals.

Captain Ali bin Zeid was killed "on Wednesday evening as a martyr while performing the sacred duty of the Jordanian forces in Afghanistan," the official news agency Petra said. The agency provided no further details about his death.

The 7 CIA agents killed in the blast were returned to the US yesterday in a private ceremony. President Obama was NOT in attendance.

Seven flag-draped coffins were handed over to the officers' families in a ceremony at Dover Air Force Base attended by CIA Director Leon Panetta and other agency and national security officials, CIA spokesman George Little told ABC News.

[...]

No cameras were allowed in the ceremony and the names of the fallen officers were not released, although the names of several of the dead have been made public by their families. Two of the victims were female officers and at least one of them had been part of the unit hunting Osama bin Laden since the 9/11 attacks in 2001.

Meanwhile, a US intelligence chief blasts the Afghanistan intelligence gathering operation as "clueless" and "ignorant".

America's deputy chief of military intelligence in Afghanistan has issued a damning indictment of the work of US spy agencies, calling them clueless and out of touch with the Afghan people.

Major General Michael Flynn described US spies as “ignorant of local economics and landowners, hazy about who the powerbrokers are and how they might be influenced... and disengaged from people in the best position to find answers”.

Pakistan: Karachi bomb was planted in Koran box. Pakistanis stunned.

I ask again, where is the outrage? And is it just me, or does it sound like the Pakistani authorities believe the Shia in the Ashura celebration were in fact responsible for the bombing and ensuing riots in some sort of false flag operation? Hmmm.

From AKI:

Close scrutiny of CCTV footage and mobile phone intercepts by Pakistan’s top intelligence agency has shown that last week's deadly bomb attack in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi was not a suicide blast but a planted device. And the riots that erupted in the city were not a spontaneous reaction to the bombing, which killed 44 people, but a premeditated criminal act of violence that caused 500 million dollars of damage.

Pakistani interior minister Rahman Malik also confirmed during a visit to Karachi on Monday that the blast at an Ashura mourning procession was not a suicide attack.

“We are reviewing the case with a new angle and will uncover the whole conspiracy,” Rahman told reporters.

Pakistanis were stunned when CCTV footage aired on national television on late on Sunday showed last Monday's bomb was planted in a box containing holy Koranic papers.

The CCTV footage showed showed the outrage of participants at the mourning procession immediately after the bombing. But within one hour after the blast, the footage showed what appeared to be organised gangs infiltrating the mourners.

Former CIA agent claims al Qaeda stronger now than before 9/11

Last year al Qaeda's ability to attack the US was declared all but wiped out. Former CIA agent, Michael Scheuer, has stated that al Qaeda is more of threat now than it was prior to 9/11.

In reality, it doesn't matter if al Qaeda is weaker or stronger now. It is only one head of the multi-headed hydra that is islamic terrorism. You have many other groups/states that share the same ideology and goals as al Qaeda.

Completely destroying al Qaeda will not end the jihad. We must strike at the heart of the problem which is islamic jihad. Digital Journal

On Sunday, former CIA agent who was in charge for the hunt for Usama Bin Laden, Michael Scheuer, said on CNN that al-Qaeda is more of a threat now than prior to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Well, the outspoken ex-intelligence operative provided his analysis once again on Sunday on the CNN program “State of the Union” with John King and stated that al-Qaeda is more of a threat now than in the past because of the vast regions al-Qaeda has expanded in.
“We’ve killed some of the al Qaeda leaders and every dead al Qaeda leader is a success. But all we have is a body count. We now have al Qaeda – the main al Qaeda – in the Pakistan and Afghanistan theater. We have a fully fledged wing in Yemen. We have a full fledged wing in Iraq, a fully fledged wing in North Africa and a nascent wing in Somalia. How can [al Qaeda] be less threatening to us?” Scheuer added that al-Qaeda is much more dangerous than on September 11, 2001.

UK may ban Islamist march in military memorial town

This should be good , especially if Islam4uk does hold a march and are banned from doing so .
Either way , Islam4uk will have a major hissy fit over this , and it can only help confirm the fact that Islam and its Radical fringe are not good for the rest of the world .

....
LONDON (reuters) - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said on Monday he was appalled that an Islamist group planned to march through a town renowned for honoring British troops killed in Afghanistan.
Any attempt to distress the families of dead soldiers would be "abhorrent and offensive," he said in a statement.

Home Secretary Alan Johnson said the proposed march through Wootton Bassett in southwest England filled him with "revulsion" and he would grant a ban on the march on public order grounds if police and the local authority sought one.

Mourners regularly line the streets of Wootton Bassett as the coffins of troops pass through the town from a nearby airforce base which receives the bodies of British soldiers flown back from Afghanistan.

Islamist activist Anjem Choudary said his organization Islam4UK intended to hold the procession to highlight the deaths of "innocent Muslim men, women and children" who had been killed in the conflict.

Islam4UK seeks the introduction of sharia law in Britain has links to Islmaist militant leader Omar Bakri Mohammed who has been banned from entering Britain. The group's website gave no indication of when the march would take place.

Some 246 British soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the invasion to oust the Taliban in 2001.

A protest last March by Choudary's supporters in Luton, north of London, against soldiers returning from Iraq led to widespread condemnation.

A facebook page set up to oppose the Wootton Bassett procession has already attracted almost 180,000 supporters.

Another Mohammed cartoonist receives death threats from the Religion of Holding a Grudge.

From JihadWatch:

Hot on the heels of the axe attack on Motoonist Kurt Westergaard comes this. The Islamic supremacists are clearly feeling free to act as they wish to in Europe. "Somali threats against Swedish illustrator," from The Local, January 4 (thanks to C. Cantoni):

Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who sparked outrage with caricatures of the Muslim prophet Muhammad as a dog, has received threats via telephone from Somalia.

Police in Helsingborg in southern Sweden are taking seriously the threats made against Vilks, which come just three days after Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard was subjected to an axe attack at his home in Denmark.

The first of two phone calls to Vilks came on Monday morning. A subsequent check by the Swedish artist revealed that the call originated in Somalia, where the Islamic militant group al-Shabaab has gained increasing influence in the war torn country. Al-Shabaab is also believed to have ties to al-Qaeda.

In the last month, al-Shabaab supporters who reportedly used to live in Denmark have killed at least 22 people, including three ministers, in a suicide bomb attack carried out in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

According to Vilks, the man who threatened him spoke Swedish.

"The man, who spoke accented Swedish, asked me if I knew about what happened in Denmark and to the artist Kurt Westergaard. I said I certainly did," Vilks told the Helsingborgs Dagblad newspaper.

"The man then explained that they were out after more and that they would soon come for me. I told them they were welcome," said Vilks....

Mr. Spencer goes on to say:

Bravo.

No one in the West should allow themselves to be intimidated. I have received so many death threats I have lost count of how many there have been. But I don't care. They can kill me, but I was going to die anyway. They can't make me bow.

To which I can only add:

But they can kiss my lily white behind.

British General says taliban must join security forces

What kind of drugs is this general hopped up on?

Eight CIA agents were killed by a suicide double agent bomber, a US soldier shot in the back by a rogue Afghan soldier who defected to the taliban after, and 5 British soldiers were killed by a Afghan soldier who sympathized with the taliban.

And the British general wants to integrate taliban fighters into the Afghan security forces?!?! This is absolute insanity! Telegraph

Taliban fighters who reconcile with the Afghan government must be allowed to join the police or army, a senior British general has told The Sunday Telegraph.

Major General Richard Barrons backs the move despite concerns that militants might use it as an opportunity to infiltrate the security services.[...]

Gen Barrons, who heads a newly-formed Nato unit seeking to reintegrate former insurgents, said he also expected to see Taliban commanders take senior positions within the President Hamid Karzai's administration in the future. He is hoping for "substantive delivery" in coaxing fighters to defect by late summer of this year.

White House aide briefed in October about underwear bomb fetishes

Intelligence fail. News Week

White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan was briefed in October on an assassination attempt by Al Qaeda that investigators now believe used the same underwear bombing technique as the Nigerian suspect who tried to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Christmas Day, U.S. intelligence and administration officials tell NEWSWEEK.[...]

U.S. officials now suspect that Nayef's attempted assassin and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian suspect aboard the Northwest flight, had the same bomb maker in Yemen, intelligence experts tell NEWSWEEK. At the briefing for Brennan, Nayef was concerned because “he didn’t think [U.S. officials] were paying enough attention” to the growing threat from Al Qaeda in Yemen, said a former U.S. intelligence official familiar with the briefing. (A senior Saudi official told NEWSWEEK Saturday that “we don't have any concerns that the U.S. government isn't sufficiently concerned about Yemen. In the latter part of the Bush administration and in this administration, the U.S. has been very focused on the dangers emanating from Yemen.”)

The briefing for Brennan could raise questions on Capitol Hill about how widely information was shared within the government about the apparently new technique used by Al Qaeda. A senior administration official said, however, that within a week after the assassination attempt on Nayef, President Obama had dispatched Brennan to Saudi Arabia to discuss the attack. “The October visit by Prince Nayef to Washington was part of this ongoing cooperation, which included developing the forensics out of the attack,” the official said. “That forensics information was widely shared within the U.S. government, as is all information about the evolving threats and tactics employed by our enemies.”

Mexico Takes Down 2nd Reputed Drug Lord in 2 Weeks

And the shake up continues in Mexico .

....Foxnews
MEXICO CITY — Just two weeks after a chilling reprisal attack for troops' killing of the reputed boss of the Beltran Leyva cartel, police have captured one of his brothers, sending a strong message that Mexico will not back down in the drug war.

The Public Safety Department said in a statement Saturday night that Carlos Beltran Leyva was arrested in Culiacan, the capital of the Pacific coast state of Sinaloa, where he and several of his brothers were born and allegedly started their gang.

On Dec. 16, his brother Arturo, the alleged chief of the Beltran Leyva cartel, died during a two-hour shootout with marines in the city of Cuernavaca. He was the highest-
ranking drug suspect taken down since President Felipe Calderon sent tens of thousands of soldiers and federal police across the country three years ago to fight brutal drug gangs.

Mexican officials in the past have described Carlos Beltran Levya, 40, as a key member of the gang, but it was unclear if he took over as chief of the cartel after his brother died.

A third brother, Alfredo, was arrested in January 2008. At least one other brother, Mario, remains at large and is listed as one of Mexico's 24 most-wanted drug lords, with a $2 million reward offered for his capture. Carlos Beltran was not included on the list, although the Public Safety Department said there had been a warrant for his arrest since 2008.

US shuts embassy as al-Qaeda 'plans attack in Yemen'

What the hell do we even have an embassy in Yemen for ?

....BBC
The US has indications that al-Qaeda is planning an attack in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, President Barack Obama's top counter-terrorism adviser has said.

John Brennan was speaking after the US and UK announced their embassies in Sanaa had temporarily closed.

The US has accused a Yemen-based offshoot of al-Qaeda of being behind the alleged Christmas Day bomb attempt on a US jet flying to Detroit.

There are mounting fears that Yemen is becoming a leading al-Qaeda haven.

Mr Brennan, the US Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, told ABC's This Week TV programme that the group had "several hundred members" in Yemen and was posing an increasing threat there.

"This is something that we've known about for a while," he said. "We're determined to destroy al-Qaeda, whether it's in Pakistan, Afghanistan, or in Yemen."

Mr Brennan added: "We know that they have been targeting our embassy, our embassy personnel."

Over 700 killed in 44 drone strikes in 2009

Of those Supposed "Innocent" people , how many are not considered guilty of anything because they are doing what they do for Allah ? and in the name of Islam ?
Maybe they should not have been hanging out with known terrorists like Baitullah Mehsud !
Not to say innocent people were not killed but when you act like a terrorist and look like a terrorist , and hang out with a terrorist , You may be a Terrorist !

....Dawn.com

PESHAWAR: Of the 44 predator strikes carried out by US drones in the tribal areas of Pakistan over the past 12 months, only five were able to hit their actual targets, killing five key Al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders, but at the cost of over 700 innocent civilians.

According to the statistics compiled by Pakistani authorities, the Afghanistan-based US drones killed 708 people in 44 predator attacks targeting the tribal areas between January 1 and December 31, 2009.

For each Al Qaeda and Taliban terrorist killed by US drones, 140 innocent Pakistanis also had to die. Over 90 per cent of those killed in the deadly missile strikes were civilians, claim authorities.

The success percentage for the drone hits during 2009 was hardly 11 per cent. On average, 58 civilians were killed in these attacks every month, 12 persons every week and almost two people every day. Most of the attacks were carried out on the basis of human intelligence, reportedly provided by the Pakistani and Afghan tribesmen, who are spying for the US-led allied forces in Afghanistan.

Of the five successful predator attacks carried out in 2009, the first one came on January 1, which reportedly killed two senior al-Qaeda leaders – Usama al-Kin and Sheikh Ahmed Salim – both wanted by the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Kin was the chief operational commander of Al-Qaeda in Pakistan and had replaced Abu Faraj Al Libi after his arrest in 2004.

The second successful drone attack was conducted on August 5 in South Waziristan that killed the most wanted fugitive chief of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan Baitullah Mehsud along with his wife.

The US State Department had announces a $5million head money for information leading to Baitullah, making him the only Pakistani fugitive with the head money separately announced by Islamabad and Washington. –DawnNews

Pakistan volleyball game attack: Will local opposition to Taliban hold firm?

"in what appears to be another retaliatory strike for recent Army offensives against the Taliban."

Everything is a retalitory strike when it comes to Terrorism .
The problem is that the Taliban always strikes at innocent people who do not Think like them !

....the Christian Science Monitor
Lahore, Pakistan

The death toll from a massive suicide attack at a volleyball tournament in northwest Pakistan mounted to 95 on Saturday, in what appears to be another retaliatory strike for recent Army offensives against the Taliban.

More than 600 civilians have now lost their lives to such attacks since the Pakistan Army began a military offensive in the Taliban stronghold of South Waziristan in October. Friday night’s attack was the second deadliest of these, after a market bombing in Peshawar in October that killed 130.

According to police, the main target of the New Year's Day attack in the town of Lakki Marwat was probably a local anti-Taliban militia, as militants seek to underscore their ongoing potency and counter government claims that they are on the defensive.

But despite the setback, local opposition to the Taliban is likely to remain firm, according to Abdul Basit, a security analyst at the Islamabad based Pakistani Institute for Peace Studies.

“The dynamics currently are that people have understood the fact that Taliban militants have broken the social ethos of Pashtun society,” he says, adding, “I don’t believe it will dampen their resolve.”

Denmark: Assassination attempt on Mohammed cartoonist foiled.

Motoon The Religion of Peace strikes again - or tries to.

From Yahoo: (h/t FReeper My Favorite Headache)

Police foiled an attempt to kill an artist who drew cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad that sparked outrage in the Muslim world, the head of Denmark's intelligence service said Saturday.

Jakob Scharf, who heads the PET intelligence service, said a 28-year-old Somalia man was armed with an ax and a knife when he attempted to enter Kurt Westergaard's home in Aarhus shortly after 10 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Friday.

The attack was "terror related," Scharf said in a statement.

"The arrested man has according to PET's information close relations to the Somali terrorist group, al-Shabaab, and al-Qaida leaders in eastern Africa," he said.

Scharf said without elaborating that the man is suspected of having been involved in terror related activities during a stay in east Africa. He had been under PET's surveillance "although this has no connection with cartoonist Kurt Westergaard," he said.

Police shot the Somali man in a knee and a hand, authorities said. Preben Nielsen of the police in Aarhus, where the attack took place, said the suspect was seriously injured but his life was not in danger. (Ed. Note: Too bad.)

The Somalia man, who had a staying permit in Denmark, was to be charged Saturday with attempted murder for trying to kill Westergaard and a police officer, Scharf said.

It was unclear whether the suspect managed to actually get inside the home of the 75-year-old cartoonist in Denmark's second largest city.

Westergaard, who had his 5-year-old grandson on a sleepover, called police and sought shelter in a specially made safe room in the house, Nielsen said. Police arrived two minutes later and tried to arrest the assailant, who wielded an axe at a police officer. The officer then shot the man.

Westergaard was "quite shocked" but was not injured, Nielsen said.

Westergaard remains a potential target for extremists nearly five years after he drew caricatures including one of the Prophet Muhammad wearing a bomb-shaped turban.

....BBC
Missiles fired from a US drone aircraft have killed at least three people in north-west Pakistan, reports say.

Pakistani security officials say the pilotless aircraft fired two missiles at a moving car in the tribal region of North Waziristan.

Reports say the attack was about 15km (nine miles) east of Miranshah.

A senior security official told the AFP news agency that three militants had been killed but their identify was not yet known.

"It is also not clear whether any high value target was present in the area when the attack took place," said the official.

Another security official, quoted by Reuters, said the bodies were "burned beyond recognition".

On Thursday, at least three militants were reported to have been killed in another US drone attack in the same area.

Panty bomber and Al-Awlaki did have a face to face meet.

Well, what do you know? Isolated extremist, President Obama? I think not.

From MSNBC:

The extent of the contacts between the cleric, Anwar al-Aulaqi, and the plane suspect are growing more apparent as investigators continue their probe.

A U.S. intelligence official said Thursday that "there was probably a face-to-face encounter" between Aulaqi and the suspect, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, during a stay in Yemen before the Nigerian man flew to Amsterdam and boarded Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines Flight 253. Separately, a top Yemeni government official said Abdulmutallab had probably met with suspected al-Qaeda operatives in a house that had been used by Aulaqi.

The house was subsequently destroyed in a Dec. 24 U.S.-backed Yemeni airstrike targeting an apparent meeting of suspected al-Qaeda leaders. (Ed.Note: So Umar bought his ticket on the 16th, the two Yemeni airstrikes took place on the 17th and 24th. He flew into Detroit on the 25th. The suicide bomber who killed seven CIA agents in Afghanistan had been courted by the US as a possible informant, US intelligence sources have said.

They said he had not undergone the usual full body search before entering the base in Khost province, and so was able to smuggle in an explosive belt.

The attack was the worst against US intelligence officials since the US embassy in Beirut was bombed in 1983.

Pakistan volleyball game 'hit by suicide bomber'

The Sheeple of Pakistan once again attacked by some party poopers by the name of the Taliban !
Bad enough as it is , They don't even know how or why this attack took place !
Pretty hard to stop what you dont Understand !

....BBC
A bomb has exploded close to a volleyball game in the troubled north-west of Pakistan, with as many as 20 people feared dead, officials say.

At least one home near the sports field collapsed, and people were said to be trapped under rubble.

The attack took place in Lakki Marwat, close to the tribal areas of North and South Waziristan.

Police officials said a suicide bomber had carried out the attack, although details remained unclear.

One police official told Reuters that a suicide bomber had approached the game on foot and blown himself up.

"There's a lot of damage. Roofs of nearby houses collapsed. There could be high casualties," the official, Habibullah Khan, said.

However, another report cited police as saying the bomber drove a car packed with explosives on to the field as people gathered to watch the match.

Mr Khan was quoted by the Associated Press as saying the attack may have been in retaliation for attempts by locals to expel militants by setting up their own militia.
