A nuclear waste site in southern France had an explosion Monday that killed one person, seriously burned another and slightly injured three others, France's nuclear safety body said.
The Nuclear Safety Authority said no radioactive leaks have been detected in the blast at 12:37 p.m. at an oven in the Centraco nuclear site. The accident was under control within the hour, the agency said in a statement.
Centraco is located on the grounds of another nuclear site, Marcoule, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region near the Mediterranean Sea.

Burqa Ban Update; Already.
Just as I figured, Plenty of people are causing problems with the Burqa Ban.
Breaking the Law just to be a Pain in the Ass.
The Telegraph
The women were arrested along with several other people protesting in front of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris against the new law.
Journalists at the scene said the arrests came after police moved in to break up the protest which had not been authorized.
On Saturday police arrested 59 people, including 19 veiled women, who turned up for a banned protest in Paris against the draconian new law, the first of its kind to be enforced in Europe.
Earlier, French police said they will be enforcing the country’s new burka ban "extremely cautiously" because of fears of provoking violence.
They fear Muslims extremists will use the law to provoke fights with officers, while rich visitors from countries like Saudi Arabia will also cause trouble .
French ban on Islamic face veil comes into force
Guidelines issued to police say they should not ask women to remove their veils in the street, but should escort them to a police station where they would be asked to uncover their faces for identification.
Oh yeah, and the first time they actually haul a Burqa wearing woman into the police station look out for the Muslim Outrage that follows.
I'm all for anything that generally irritates Muslims, honestly, anything that irritates any group of people that think they are Superior to another goes over well with me. the response always shows the truth in how they really are.
BBC
A law has come into force in France which makes it an offence for a Muslim woman to conceal her face behind a veil when in public.
Anyone caught breaking the law will be liable to a fine of 150 euros (£133, $217) and a citizenship course.
People forcing women to wear the veil face a much larger fine and a prison sentence of up to two years.
France is the first country in Europe to publicly ban a form of dress some Muslims regard as a religious duty.
Under the law, any woman - French or foreign - walking on the street or in a park in France and wearing a face-concealing veil such as the niqab or burka can be stopped by police and given a fine.
It is a small fine, but symbolically this is a huge change, says the BBC's Hugh Schofield in Paris.
Guidelines issued to police say they should not ask women to remove their veils in the street, but should escort them to a police station where they would be asked to uncover their faces for identification.

Children hostages freed in French school
Well no bullet in the head, at least the kids are O.K.
Washington post
PARIS -- Masked French gendarmes detained a 17-year-old who took a class full of preschoolers hostage Monday, releasing all the children safely after hours of tense negotiations that drew nationwide attention.
"The hostage-taking is over," Jean-Marc Magda, aide to the mayor of the eastern French city of Besancon, told The Associated Press by telephone. All 20 children who had been taken hostage and their teacher were released safely, he said.
The hostage-taker was detained, and remained inside the school with officers from a specialist gendarme force brought in to deal with the situation, Magda said.
French children held hostage by sword-wielding teenager
It is a messed up world.
I don't know and don't really care what this asswipes problem is, I hope they put a bullet in his head.
Guardian.co.uk.
A group of children are being held hostage by a 17-year-old at a nursery school in eastern France, officials said.
The teenager, carrying at least one sword, initially took 20 children hostage at the kindergarten in Besancon at 9am (8am GMT) but released most of them about an hour later, officials said.
"Around 14 children have come out and at the moment there are five or six still inside," Besancon's mayor, Jean-Louis Fousseret, told France Info radio.
The children being held are aged between four and five. Their teacher and a classroom assistant are also being held.

France arrests 'terror suspects'
Little Bastards are everywhere .
Al Jazeera
French police have arrested 12 people in two separate counterterrorism raids, amid a state of high alert for attacks in the country.
Nine people arrested in Marseille, the southern port city, on Tuesday morning were being investigated for suspected links to a "terrorist enterprise", police said.
Weapons including a Kalashnikov rifle, a pump action shotgun and ammunition were also seized in the raid, an official was quoted by the AFP news agency as saying.
Another three men were arrested in Marseille and Bordeaux, in France's southwest, on alleged ties to a group recruiting fighters for Afghanistan.
The trio were linked to Ryad Hannouni, a Frenchman arrested in the Italian city of Naples last weekend and suspected of being connected to al-Qaeda fighters, police said.

Britain issues travel warning to France and Germany due to terror threat
The British Foreign Office has issued a warning to British citizen who will be traveling to France or Germany over threats of a Mumbai style terrorist attack. The US State Department has also issued a warning.
Looks like everyone is pretty spooked about the latest threat. Does this mean that they think the attack is imminent? Sky News
Britons travelling to France and Germany have been told they may face a high threat from terror attacks, following a US warning for its citizens to be vigilant while in Europe.[...]
This advice is one step below the formal warning recommending no travel at all.
Following the US move, Britain upgraded its travel advice for Europe.
The Foreign Office said there was a "high threat" of attacks in countries including France and Germany, rather than the "general threat" previously identified.
It follows intelligence indicating al Qaeda terrorists are planning to launch simultaneous Mumbai-style attacks in the UK, France and Germany.

French Senate votes to ban Islamic full veil in public
Awesome , but where is the Outrage ?
Maybe the Muslims just don't understand the issue yet .
BBC
France's Senate has overwhelmingly approved a bill that would ban wearing the Islamic full veil in public.
The proposed measure was already backed by the lower house of parliament, the National Assembly, in July.
The ban will come into force in six months' time if it is not overturned by constitutional judges.
The ban has strong public support, but critics point out that only a tiny minority of French Muslims wear the full veil.
President Nicolas Sarkozy has backed the ban as part of a wider debate on French identity but opponents say the government is pandering to far-right voters.
On Tuesday, the Senate voted 246 to 1 in favour of the bill.

French MPs vote to ban Islamic full veil in public
Andre Gerin of the Communist opposition compared the veil to "a walking coffin, a muzzle".
A walking Coffin ! that's a good one .
So now the waiting game , September's not far away , And I'm sure that preparations for some Rioting are being taken .
BBC
France's lower house of parliament has overwhelmingly approved a bill that would ban wearing the Islamic full veil in public.
There were 335 votes for the bill and only one against in the 557-seat National Assembly.
It must now be ratified by the Senate in September to become law.
The ban has strong public support but critics point out that only a tiny minority of French Muslims wear the full veil.
Many of the opposition Socialists, who originally wanted the ban limited only to public buildings, abstained from voting after coming under pressure from feminist supporters of the bill.
President Nicolas Sarkozy has backed the ban as part of a wider debate on French identity but critics say the government is pandering to far-right voters.
After the vote, Justice Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said it was a victory for democracy and for French values.
"Values of freedom against all the oppressions which try to humiliate individuals; values of equality between men and women, against those who push for inequality and injustice."

French parliament to vote on proposed veil ban
One step closer to a Burqa Ban .
(Reuters) - A French bill to ban full-face veils worn by some Muslim women in public will go to parliament on Tuesday, bringing closer a measure which critics argue is hard to enforce and may be unconstitutional.
Supporters of a ban on full-face veils in France, home to the European Union's largest Muslim minority, argue that wearing garments which hide women's faces violates the republican ideals of secularism and gender equality.
Opponents say only a tiny minority of Muslim women wear the full veil, known as a niqab or burqa, and that the legislation is a step toward tighter restraints on individual freedom.
France already bans Muslim headscarves and other religious symbols from schools.
"It's going to increase feelings of being ostracized in part of the Muslim community, even parts where women don't wear the niqab," said Jean Bauberot, sociologist at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes at Paris' Sorbonne University.
Most voters back a ban, polls have shown, but legal experts warn it could violate the constitution. The Council of State, the top administrative court which advises the government on the preparation of new laws, said in March a ban could be unlawful.
"We were opposed to the veil even before the start of the debate...and we think that a general ban is absolutely not the solution," said Mohammed Moussaoui, President of the French Muslim Council.
Amnesty International called on parliamentarians to reject the ban.
"A total ban on covering the face would violate the rights to freedom of expression and religion of women who wear the burqa or the niqab in public as an expression of their identity or their convictions," John Dalhuisen, expert on discrimination in Europe at Amnesty International, said in a statement.
Parliament will begin debating the four-article bill on Tuesday and a vote on it on July 13.

Niqab wearing woman ticketed for erratic driving
A French woman, wearing a full niqab, was pulled over by police for erratic driving.
Maybe that's why woman aren't allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. ABC
French police have fined a woman driver for erratic driving caused by her Islamic headscarf, just weeks after a similar incident sparked a major political row.
Police in Vaucluse in southern France had not stopped the driver for wearing the niqab, a veil that leaves only the eyes exposed, but for "erratic" driving, commanding officer Charles Bourillon said.
Mr Bourillon says officers decided to check the vehicle after it showed erratic behaviour on the road and it was only when they signalled for the driver to stop that they saw she was wearing a niqab.
"[The headscarf] was bothering the driver in her manoeuvres ... It was obvious she could not see a thing," he said.

The child – identified only as Daniel – is the son of an illegal immigrant from the Paris suburb of Juvisy.[...]
Police officer claimed they were carrying out routine vehicle checks before arrested both father and son.[...]
The father, who is from a North African background, was questioned about links to radical groups possibly linked to Islamic terrorism. Both he and Daniel were formally placed under investigation.

Large Hadron Collider Breaks Energy Record—By 300%
Good news , now soon it won't be long before they create that Blackhole and Suck the whole world into it !
National Geographic
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) set a new energy record this morning, tripling its former peak performance. In doing so, the "big bang machine" took an important step toward full-power operation.
At 5:20 a.m., local time, in Geneva, Switzerland, physicists sent two proton beams racing around the Large Hadron Collider's oval-shaped, 17-mile-long (27-kilometer-long) underground tunnel.
Each beam packed a powerful 3.5-trillion-electron-volt (TeV) punch—the highest energy yet achieved in a particle accelerator, or atom smasher.
The Large Hadron Collider had also set the previous record. Last December the LHC smashed two 1.18-TeV beams to create a 2.36-TeV collision.
The two 3.5-TeV beams will eventually be smashed together to create a whopping 7-TeV energy collision—half the collider's maximum energy level.
"We're all hoping [the collision] will happen in the next couple of weeks," said James Gillies, a spokesperson for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), which operates the machine.

France used troops as nuclear "guinea pigs"
It took till Last year for France to realize that putting Humans in the area of a Nuclear explosion ,was maybe not so good for them ?
Did they not see what happened in Hiroshima or Nagasaki 16 years earlier ?
PARIS (Reuters) - France deliberately exposed its soldiers to nuclear explosions in Algeria in the 1960s to study the effect of radiation on humans, a newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing confidential documents.
The French government promised last year to compensate victims of nuclear tests in Algeria, carried out between 1960 and 1966, recognizing a link between the explosions and veterans' illnesses such as cancer.
While the government has said the tests were conducted as safely as possible, newspaper Le Parisien quoted an official defense report from the period as saying that the army deliberately sent its soldiers on risky maneuvers on April 25, 1961.
One of the aims was "to study the physical and psychological effect of atomic weapons on humans, in order to obtain necessary elements for the physical preparation and training of morale of the modern combatant", Le Parisien quoted the report as saying.
Defense Minister Herve Morin told the paper he had no knowledge of the report. "The (radioactive) dosages received during the tests were very low," he said.
Some veterans who worked on the experiments in Algeria, and subsequent tests on French Polynesian atolls, have said they were ordered to lie down and cover their eyes during the explosions, wearing nothing but shorts and T-shirts.

Burqa clad thugs rob post office in Paris
<--Have you seen this robber?
Daily Mail
Armed robbers disguised in burkhas escaped with thousands in cash after carrying out a post office raid in Paris.
It took place at around 10.30am, when two robbers carrying pistols entered the main post office bank building in Athis Mons, which has a large immigrant Muslim community, mainly from North Africa.
Once inside they ordered a bank clerk to take out the equivalent of £4,000 in cash by pointing a pistol at him. After ten minutes they fled to a nearby car park and escaped.
Police fear that they will not be able to identify the robbers on CCTV cameras.
‘It was a perfect disguise,’ said one detective. ‘Their faces and bodies were completely covered.’

French Call for Veil Ban in Public Buildings
Muslim religious leaders have warned that a law banning face-covering attire in the streets could stigmatize Muslims and drive some to extremism.
Ha Ha Ha ! Stigmatize Muslims and drive Some to Extremism ! What a joke.
Foxnews
PARIS — A French parliamentary panel will stop short of recommending a ban on face-covering veils in the street and instead will ask for the garb to be banned in public facilities such as hospitals, the panel's president says.
The 32-member panel's report due Tuesday culminates a six-month inquiry into the wearing of all-encompassing veils that began after President Nicolas Sarkozy said in June that they are "not welcome" on French territory.
Andre Gerin, a Communist lawmaker who heads the multiparty panel, said the report contains a "multitude of proposals" to ban such garb in places like schools, hospitals and other public buildings, but not private buildings or on the street.
Gerin stressed the need to move "progressively" toward a law banning the attire in the streets and to work "hand in hand" with Muslim leaders and associations.
A 2004 French law bans Muslim headscarves from classrooms.
Muslim religious leaders have warned that a law banning face-covering attire in the streets could stigmatize Muslims and drive some to extremism. They were joined last week by Roman Catholic and Jewish leaders who said they consider such a drastic step unnecessary.
France has Western Europe's largest Muslim population, estimated at some 5 million. Only a tiny minority of Muslim women wear such attire, usually a "niqab" pinned across the face to cover all but the eyes.
Critics of the veils call them a gateway to extremism, an insult to gender equality and an offense to France's secular system.

Paris imam backs France's proposed burqa ban
But the Tunisian-born imam, who is a naturalized French citizen, agreed France should not grant citizenship to immigrant women who cover their faces.
Hassen Chalghoumi , has probably just earned Himself another death threat .
But I give the guy some credit , he is using some very strong words against Islam here , Something Rarely done by a Muslim !
PARIS (Reuters) - A French imam active in Muslim dialogue with Jews has backed a law against full face veils, parting ways with most Muslim leaders in France urging parliamentarians not to vote for a planned "burqa ban."
Hassen Chalghoumi, whose mosque stands in a northern Paris suburb where many Muslims live, said women who wanted to cover their faces should move to Saudi Arabia or other Muslim countries where that was a tradition.
France's National Assembly is likely to pass a resolution soon denouncing full veils and to try in coming months to hammer out a law forbidding them, deputies say.
President Nicolas Sarkozy calls the veils an affront to women's dignity unwelcome in France, home to about five million Muslims. Fewer than 2,000 women wear the veils, known here as burqas although most are Middle Eastern niqabs showing the eyes.
"Yes, I am for a legal ban of the burqa, which has no place in France, a country where women have been voting since 1945," Hassen Chalghoumi, 36, told the daily Le Parisien.
Chalghoumi, who has received death threats for his promotion of dialogue with Jews, said that full face veils had no basis in Islam and "belong to a tiny minority tradition reflecting an ideology that scuttles the Muslim religion."
"The burqa is a prison for women, a tool of sexist domination and Islamist indoctrination," said Chalghoumi, whose mosque stands in Drancy, site of a wartime camp where Jews were detained before transport to Nazi concentration camps.
Chalghoumi criticized some of the tougher measures proposed by conservative politicians, such as imposing fines or cutting off child support payments for veiled women.
But the Tunisian-born imam, who is a naturalized French citizen, agreed France should not grant citizenship to immigrant women who cover their faces.
"Having French nationality means wanting to take part in society, at school, at work," he said.
"But with a bit of cloth over their faces, what can these women share with us? If they want to wear the veil, they can go to a country where it's the tradition, like Saudi Arabia."

France: Muslims douse actress with gasoline - "We know who you are, miscreant whore.
"Detectives are examining the possibility she was attacked by a radical Islamist group" - gee, ya think?
Rayhana ---->
From The Independent:
Police launched a terrorism investigation in Paris yesterday after two men tried to set fire to an Algerian feminist playwright and actress.
The attackers sprayed Rayhana, known only by her first name, with petrol and threw a lit cigarette in her face. The petrol did not ignite, possibly because of the extreme cold.
Rayhana, 45, is appearing in and directing her own play about the oppression of women in Algeria. She was walking to a theatre in a north-eastern suburb of the city when she was insulted in Arabic and attacked. A fortnight ago, she was approached in the same area by two men who said: "We know who you are, you miscreant whore. This is a warning."
Detectives are examining the possibility that she was attacked by a radical Islamist group, although her play is equally critical of the treatment of women by radical Islam and secular authorities in Algeria.
A pressure group for the rights of women of North African origin, Ni Putes, Ni Soumises ("neither whores, nor submisssives"), has called for a demonstration of solidarity with Rayhana outside the theatre tonight.
Following the attack, the playwright staggered into an upmarket restaurant but was refused help. She carried on to the theatre, La Maison des Metallos, and took part in that night's performance. Her sell-out play At My Age, I Still Hide To Have A Smoke, is about a group of women who chat about their lives during a visit to a spa, and features unflattering views of Muslim men.
Rayhana was forced to leave Algeria for France because of threats from "Islamists"
She has lived in France since 2000, when she left Algeria fearing for her safety. She told the French media it was the first time she had been assaulted since she took refuge in France, after leaving Algeria because of threats from Islamists.
Politicians and Muslim associations have expressed horror at the attack. The Minister of Culture Frédéric Mitterrand expressed sympathy and said he admired Rayhana's courage. The Secretary for Urban Affairs Fadela Amara described the incident was intolerable. The Muslim association Foi et Pratique also joined in the condemnation of the assault, saying "nothing can prepare us for such acts and nothing can explain them".
Funny. I can explain them in one word - ISLAM.

100s of cars burnt on New Years eve in France
Those pesky French muslims youths burning cars by the 100s again. Reuters
PARIS (Reuters) - Youths burned 1,137 cars across France overnight as New Year's Eve celebrations once again turned violent, the French Interior Ministry said on Friday.
Car burnings are regular occurrences in poor suburbs that ring France's big cities, but the arson is especially prevalent during New Year's Eve revelry.
