India blames Mumbai attack on terrorists

India blames Mumbai attack on terrorists

REALLY?

I thought maybe some non violent peace loving hippies did it.

Los Angeles imesT

India's home minister said Thursday that it was too early to blame any particular militant group or individual for the deadly blasts that struck Mumbai at rush hour a day earlier, but that the coordinated attack was the work of terrorists.

He also defended the intelligence services' record in the run-up to the three explosions, adding that they had no information that an attack was coming.

"Whoever planned this attack worked in a very, very clandestine manner," Palaniappan Chidambaram told reporters Thursday morning. "It's not a failure of intelligence."

The home minister also amended the casualty figures, saying 18 people had died rather than the 21 cited earlier by a top state official, with 131 hospitalized. Of the injured, 23 were seriously hurt, and some are in critical condition. A victim whose head was severed remains unidentified, Chidambaram said

Mumbai blasts prompt further questions over Indian intelligence

"It is very difficult to stop every single terror attack," Gandhi added. "We've improved in leaps and bounds, but terrorism is something that is also increasing in leaps and bounds."

Very true, Imagine how hard it would be to stop a lone suicide bomber that never says anything about what he is about to do, or even a group of the rejects.

The Terrorists are suspected to be a radical Muslim group, no surprise there, some homegrown terrorists.

Guardian.co.uk
Cities across India are on high alert as the government came under mounting criticism for its repeated failures to detect terrorist attacks, following the blitz on Mumbai in which 18 people were killed.

As a monsoon drizzle swept Mumbai, the casualty figure from the three bomb explosions on Wednesday was revised downwards by the home minister, P Chidambaram, on a visit to the affected districts, despite the gruesome discovery of a severed head on Thursday morning.

"The discovery of the severed head takes the number of killed to 18 [reduced from the earlier official figure of 21 dead], while the number of injured stands at 131," Chidambaram said.

"It appears that ammonium nitrate was used in the bombs, with a timer mechanism. The three blasts occurred within 10 minutes of each other, which shows it was a co-ordinated terrorist attack."

He added that of the 131 injured, 26 have been discharged from hospital, 82 are in a stable condition, while 23 are critical.

Indian Maoist militants kill 15 police in double attack

Terrorism seems to be the fad wherever you look, some group somewhere is always looking to blow someone or something up.

Dawn.com
RAIPUR, India: Maoist militants killed 15 police officers in the jungles of India’s central state of Chhattisgarh in two separate bomb blasts, police said on Friday, as the insurgents continued a fresh round of violent attacks on security forces.

A bomb attack on two security vehicle killed 10 police and injured three early on Friday morning, a senior police officer said, hours after insurgents shot dead five state policemen in a raid on an armed forces camp.

Both the attacks were carried out in forested areas of the mineral rich region where the Maoists are mainly active, and where widespread violence has worried investors and disrupted mining and rail transport.

“It was a massive blast,” Ram Niwas, additional director general of police (Maoist operation), told Reuters.

The anti-landmine vehicle was tossed up in the air by the blast before it landed in pieces, Niwas said. The attack took place 400 kilometres from the state capital, Raipur.

Millions of girls lost to selective abortion in India

“Increases in selective abortion of girls are probably because of persistent son preference combined with decreases in fertility,”

Decreases in Fertility?...But Boys and Boys don't make Boys!

Weird things go on in other countries, Males are preferred in certain places over females.
It makes you wonder, there is going to be a lot of boys growing up with a lot less girls around.

Dawn.com
PARIS: Sex selection of foetuses in India has led to 7.1 million fewer girls than boys up to age six, a gender gap that has widened by more than a million in a decade, according to a study released Tuesday.

In Indian families in which the first child has been a girl, more and more parents with access to prenatal ultrasound testing are aborting a second female in the hope that a subsequent pregnancy will yield a boy, said the study, published in The Lancet.

The increasingly lopsided ratio of girls to boys is larger in wealthy households than poorer ones, the researchers reported.

Between 1980 and 2010, they estimate, four to 12 million girls were aborted because of their sex.

“Selective abortion of female foetuses, usually after a firstborn girl, has increased in India over the past few decades, and has contributed to a widening imbalance in the child sex ratio,” they conclude.

The female shortfall for the zero-to-six age bracket was 6.0 million in 2001, and 4.2 million in 1991.

“Increases in selective abortion of girls are probably because of persistent son preference combined with decreases in fertility,” the authors say.

Man Beheads Girlfriend in Front of Classmates at Indian University

O.K. so no one will let us be in love and be married, so I kill you!

A modern day version of Romeo And Juliet?

Foxnews
RANCHI, India -- An engineering student was in police custody Thursday after allegedly slicing his girlfriend's head off with a ceremonial dagger in front of her classmates at an Indian university.

Bijendra Kumar, 23, a diploma student at St. Xavier's College in Ranchi, in eastern India, allegedly beheaded his 18-year-old girlfriend, Khushbu, with a blade known as a "khukri" as she left the classroom with her friends.

The Hindustan Times reported that Kumar was overpowered by students and security guards, beaten and then arrested by police after the attack Wednesday.

Authorities said Khushbu's head was sliced off in the attack. Kumar later told police that he loved his girlfriend and wanted to kill her and himself because her parents would not let them marry.

Kumar's mother, Yamini Devi, was distraught when told of the incident.

"We came to know about his affair with Khushbu two months ago when she ran away from her house and came ... to marry my son," she said. Khushbu's uncle then intervened and beat Kumar for inciting his niece to elope.

"We were in love for the last five years, but our parents did not allow us to unite, so we decided to die together. After killing her, I was about to kill myself when they caught me," Kumar was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Obama's India trip stirs fears in Pakistan about power balance

Amazing,

Although the Obama administration recently proposed a new $2 billion aid package for the Pakistani army and last year signed off on a $7.5 billion civilian aid deal, government officials here said this week that the United States has yet to prove itself a reliable partner.

So 10 Billion over two years is just not enough for Pakistan !

We give and give and all we get is told we have not proven our commitment?

And on top of this we gave $378 million in flood relief, more than any other country so far.

The Washington Post
ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN - President Obama's decision to spend three days in India beginning Saturday, while bypassing Pakistan, has sparked anxiety among government officials here who warn that Obama risks upsetting the delicate balance of power between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

Among the Pakistanis' chief concerns are the Obama administration's apparent unwillingness to get involved in the long-standing dispute over Kashmir; the blossoming U.S.-India civil nuclear partnership; and the symbolism of Obama starting his visit at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, site of the 2008 siege that killed 173 people and that has been blamed on Pakistani militants.

BBC
Police in the Indian capital, Delhi, say a teenage girl and her boyfriend have been murdered in what they suspect is a gruesome case of "honour killing".

Aisha Saini and Yogesh Kumar, both 19, were beaten with metal rods and then electrocuted, police say. The girl's father and uncle have been arrested.

According to police, the girl's family disapproved of the relationship because Mr Kumar was from another caste.

Cases of suspected "honour killing" are rare in the Indian capital.

Correspondents say the killings - long a taboo subject in India - are now being reported more often. There have been a number of recent cases in the news in regions near Delhi.

Al Qaeda could provoke India-Pakistan war

"Under the umbrella, they intend to destabilise not only Pakistan, but the entire region by provoking confrontation between India and Pakistan through terror attacks. This is a very complicated issue and very dangerous for the entire region as a whole,"

If a war were to break out between India and Pakistan, whose side would the US take? I would suspect we would take Pakistan's side because if we took India's side then it would have to be an all out war where the first thing to do would be to take over Karachi and it's port. Then we would have to secure the Khyber pass in order to assure supplies would reach our troops in Afghanistan.

I don't believe India's leadership has the heart or will for such a large conflict with Pakistan. Plus it would mean they would have to stay in Pakistan for a long time and all the problems from Ghandi's time would pop up again.Financial Times

NEW DELHI: Giving a clean chit to the Pakistani establishment, the US has said Al Qaeda’s terror syndicate, which includes the Lashkar-e-Taiba,
is trying to provoke an Indo-Pak confrontation.

US defence secretary Robert Gates, who discussed terror threat in the region with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, defence minister AK Antony and external affairs minister SM Krishna, acknowledged that India’s patience would be ``limited’’ if a Mumbai-type terror attack took place once again. But he also maintained that it was the al Qaeda in collaboration with the Lashkar-e-Taiba was trying to trigger an Indo-Pak confrontation.

Musharraf met with terrorist leaders

Former Pakistani president, Musharraf, allegedly met with a terrorist leader of Ulfa in Bangladesh. According to the government of India, Ulfa, United Liberation Front of Asom, maintains links with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan and the DGFI of Bangladesh, and waging a proxy war on their behalf against India.
Times of India

KOLKATA: Bangladesh local government minister, Syed Ashraful Islam, has said that Islamabad used his country for terrorism in India and that former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf had met Ulfa founder, Anup Chetia, at a Dhaka hotel during the previous BNP-Jamaat regime.

He said Chetia was brought out of prison for the clandestine meeting. Islam’s statement in Dhaka on Friday came three days before Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s three-day visit to India.

“The BNP-led alliance was responsible for deterioration of relations between India and Bangladesh. Not only did Musharraf meet Chetia, the Bangladesh government at that time allowed many Mujahideen leaders - involved in the Afghan war - to facilitate the activities of terror groups in India,’’ he said. He said 10 truckloads of weapons and 15 million rounds of ammunition seized in Chittagong and Bogra were meant for terror, separatist groups operating in India.

US citizen David Headley was in the Mumbai Massacre "control room": confirms Pak Army officials are in on jihad, too.

Here is another prime example of an "al Qaeda Crown Jewel".

From Expressbuzz:

American-born terror suspect David Headley had not only actively played a role in conducting reconnaissance of targets in Mumbai but was also present in a control unit in Pakistan along with the masterminds of the attacks to guide 10 Lashker-e-Taiba terrorists to carry out strikes in the megapolis.

Sources privy to the investigations of the terror suspect's trail in India said 48-year-old Headley was very much present in the room4 from where the 10 LeT terrorists were being guided to various locations during the 26/11 attacks.

The investigators re-visited the intercepts and found that there were specific instructions being given to terrorists about entry and exit including that they had taken more time before reaching their final targets which included Taj Mahal hotel, Oberoi and Trident towers and Nariman House.

India has asked for a voice sample of Headley from the FBI to match with a voice which was unidentified so far for the security agencies. This voice was giving information on exact surroundings of the targets attacked by Lashker-e-Taiba militants. However, there was no firm response from the FBI on providing the same to the Indian investigators, the sources said. (Ed. note: I wonder if this is because Headley is being said to be cooperating with the FBI?)

Other places that Headley was able to get into using his connections as an American?

"... (Headley) had used the service of many prominent individuals in the city to conduct a proper recce of the places which also included Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Israeli Embassy in Cuffe Parade and Israeli airlines office located in the World Trade Centre."

This is in addition to the actual Mumbai targets: Nariman House, the Taj Mahal hotel, the Leopold Cafe, Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus and the Oberoi-Trident hotels.

The Times Of India is also reporting that:

The FBI interrogation of David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani has, for the first time, confirmed what India has always known, army officers" are working in collaboration with India-specific jihadi groups like LeT and JeM.

Obama's first state dinner - Cedar chips will be sprinkled on the roofs of the Port-a-Potties.

I kid you not:

From Times Online:

There will be music from the composer of the Slumdog Millionaire theme, food from an Ethiopian-born Swedish chef and cedar chips sprinkled on the roofs of the portable lavatories. There may also be the faint patter of drizzle on canvas.

The first state dinner of the Obama era, held tonight in a tent village on the South Lawn of the White House, will honour an Indian Prime Minister described by aides as an abstemious vegetarian. At the same time, it will set the tone for formal entertaining by the most glamorous couple to inhabit the White House since the Kennedys.

Gag me with your gush, buddy. (And do you think it possible the author could get any more condescending?)

Michelle Obama has personally supervised the compilation of a guest list 400 names long and the creation of a menu of global cuisine, “possibly including a curry dish”, that will have to avoid seeming too global lest the Obamas’ critics condemn it as a betrayal of apple pie.
