Pakistani police discovered drug addicts held in chains at an Islamic seminary that offered rehabilitation services, and said Tuesday that young children were also sometimes shackled at the institution.
The parents of around 60 young men at the seminary in the southern port city of Karachi paid it to treat their children through a regime of Islamic instruction and worship, or simply to take them off their hands.
"They were kept there like animals," said police officer Akram Naeem.
Naeem said officers had ruled out any possibility that the seminary had links with Islamist militant groups.
Patients who tried to escape or were dealing drugs were chained together, Naeem said.
Some children as young as eight were also taking regular Islamic instruction at the seminary, said policeman Rao Anwar Ahmed. He said they too were sometimes chained, if they were disobedient.
Police arrested an administrator at the complex during the raid Monday night, which was reportedly due to a tip off.

About 300 Chihuahua state police officers with the help of federal authorities rounded up about 400 people late Friday and early Saturday in Juárez during a special operation in search of missing children.
One missing 15-year-old girl was found in a hotel, officials said.
The search was launched under operation Alba, which was created to assure parents of missing children in the central part of the city that officials were making efforts to find the missing children.

Drinking glasses depicting comic book and movie characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman and the Tin Man from "The Wizard of Oz" exceed federal limits for lead in children's products by up to 1,000 times, according to laboratory testing commissioned by The Associated Press.
The decorative enamel on the superhero and Oz sets -- made in China and purchased at a Warner Brothers Studios store in Burbank -- contained between 16 percent and 30.2 percent lead. The federal limit on children's products is 0.03 percent.
The same glasses also contained relatively high levels of the even-more-dangerous cadmium, though there are no federal limits on that toxic metal in design surfaces.
And that goes to show you how much our idiotic Government cares, It is alright for our kinds to touch the #7 most toxic substance according to the CDC.

Feds Probe Cadmium in Kids' Jewelry From China
Cadmium is a known carcinogen. Like lead, it can hinder brain development in the very young, according to recent research.
"It comes down to the following: Cadmium causes cancer. How much cadmium do you want your child eating?" said Michael R. Harbut, a doctor who has treated adult victims of cadmium poisoning and is director of the environmental cancer program at the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit. "In my view, the answer should be none."

LOS ANGELES — Moving swiftly, U.S. product safety authorities say they are launching an investigation into the presence of the toxic metal cadmium in children's jewelry imported from China after disclosure of lab tests showing that some pieces consisted primarily of the dangerous substance.
The promise to "take action as quickly as possible to protect the safety of children" followed by hours the release Sunday of an Associated Press investigative report that documented how some Chinese manufacturers have been substituting cadmium for lead in cheap charm bracelets and pendants being sold throughout the United States.
Meantime, the head of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the agency that regulates children's jewelry and toys, was set to deliver a speech Tuesday to Asian manufacturers emphasizing that American regulators are still scrutinizing jewelry contents now that they've barred the use of lead.
— Three flip flop bracelet charms sold at Walmart contained between 84 and 86 percent cadmium. The charms fared the worst of any item on the stomach acid test; one shed more cadmium in 24 hours than what World Health Organization guidelines deem a safe exposure over 60 weeks for a 33-pound child.
Lets not forget that Cheap metals will over time rub off on your Skin , How much exposure would that be to a child over say A year ? ( Maybe they need a skin leeching test )

Indiana School Removes 'Allah' From Holiday Show After Protests
The biggest problem here , they are involving Kids !
....foxnewsAn elementary school in Indiana reportedly removed a mention of Allah in its holiday show after protests from a national conservative Christian group.
Lantern Road Elementary Principal Danielle Thompson told IndyStar.com that school officials in Fishers, Ind., attempted to teach inclusiveness through the second-grade program that included portions on Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Las Posadas and Kwanzaa.
"It went off last night without a hitch," Thompson told the Web site. "Several families thought it was a nice program."
Thompson said officials removed the phrase "Allah is God," however, after the American Family Association complained about the program on its electronic newsletter. The alteration was made because no other deities were named in the program.
Shariq Siddiqui, executive director of the Muslim Alliance of Indiana, told the Web site that the decision to remove the word Allah was most certainly not inclusive.
"It's unfortunate if that was removed from the program just because of Islamophobic feelings," Siddiqui told the Web site. "Schools are a place where we should learn more about each other rather than exclude each other based on stereotypes and misconceptions."
Sorry Siddicqui , Schools are for learning important things like reading , Writing , Math , Science , And basic "Human Being" Skills , Not a place to learn about religion ! you have your Church or Mosque for that !
Siddiqui said "Allah" is the Arabic word for God and is used by Jews, Christians and others in Arabic-speaking nations.

Congo children branded as witches, abducted: U.N.
Alright , This goes directly into the files of WTF ! A bunch of whacked Africans seeing a Man turn into A goat is one thing ! GENEVA (Reuters) - Growing numbers of children in the Democratic Republic of Congo are being labeled as witches, and others face abduction by armed groups for use as soldiers, a United Nations watchdog said Friday.
The U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child called on Congolese authorities to better protect young people in their country, including those left orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
"Children, contrary to being treated primarily as victims, have been arrested, detained and tried in military courts for military offences and other crimes allegedly committed while they were in armed forces or groups," it said.
Street children in the former Zaire are regularly harassed, threatened, beaten or arrested by the military and police, the U.N. committee said.
"A large number of children are labeled as witches and consequently suffer serious stigmatization," it said.
It expressed concern that "violence against children accused of witchcraft is increasing, and that children are being kept as prisoners in religious buildings where they are exposed to torture and ill-treatment or even killed under the pretext of exorcism."
