Turkey gives Syria ultimatum to stop violence

Turkey to Syria,
"Stop it or we will no longer be friends"

pretty tough talk right there, I'm sure Syria will stop killing its people now !

Ynet
Turkey is not ruling out international intervention in Syria, if President Bashar Assad's regime continues its military crackdown against civilians, a senior official in Ankara told Turkey-based Hurriyet paper on Saturday.

The source said that Turkish President Abdullah Gul sent a letter to his Syrian counterpart through Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, in which he delivered an ultimatum to Damascus, demanding to end all violence against protesters.

"Up until now, we've tried to convince the Western nations to give Assad more time to implement reforms. We were as friendly as we could be – we held joint cabinet meetings and canceled the need for visas," Hurriyet quoted the source as saying.

"But if the Syrian regime doesn't listen to our advice, as their friend and neighbor, and continues to shoot on its own people – we can no longer be Turkey's friend," he noted.

Joke of the Day.

TEHRAN, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said the Islamic Republic and Turkey have potentials to be forerunners of international nuclear disarmament, the local English language satellite Press TV reported on Thursday.

"Iran and Turkey can be flag-bearers of nuclear disarmament in the globe to establish a world free from nuclear weapons," Mottaki said in a meeting with head of Turkish Parliament's Commission for Foreign Relations Murad Marjan in Tehran on Wednesday.

As part of this European stockpiling, Turkey, which is a partner of the US-led coalition against Iran along with Israel, possesses some 90 thermonuclear B61 bunker buster bombs at the Incirlik nuclear air base. (National Resources Defense Council, Nuclear Weapons in Europe , February 2005)

So we know that Turkey has Nukes.

Don't you have to have Nukes in order to be a "Forerunner" of nuclear Disarmament ?

What's that ? Do you smell smoke too !

Israel navy boards Gaza aid ship

Israel decided to board another aid vessel today , at least this time nobody was attacked or Killed .

(Reuters) - The Israeli navy boarded another Gaza-bound aid ship on Saturday after Washington condemned as "unsustainable" a blockade which Israel enforced earlier this week by killing nine people on a Turkish vessel. The Israeli navy, whose action on Monday triggered an international outcry, took control of the Rachel Corrie without incident, the Israeli military said.

The boat had ignored Israeli orders to divert to Israel's Ashdod port where Israel had offered to unload the cargo and deliver it to Gaza after inspecting it.

"According to initial reports, there was no violence or injuries amongst the soldiers or the crew, as the use of force was unnecessary and no shots were fired," the Israeli military said in a statement.

Carrying Irish and other activists, the ship was the latest to attempt to break the four-year old blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza with the stated aim of stopping its Hamas rulers from strengthening their arsenal to fight the Jewish state.

Turkish commandos seize 9 pirates in Gulf of Aden

A nice catch .
To bad more of this doesn't happen a little more often .

(Reuters) - Turkish commandos have captured nine pirates aboard a boat in the Gulf of Aden, the Turkish Armed Forces said in a statement on Thursday.

The frigate Gelibolu, serving as part of a NATO anti-piracy mission, intercepted the pirate skiff while monitoring the security corridor for merchant shipping 80 miles from the coast on Wednesday, the statement said.

"Commandos performed maneuvers to intercept the boat and captured nine pirates on board," it added.

The Turkish Armed Forces' website published photos of the pirates at sea in their skiff and later, after their capture, holding their hands above their heads.

Seaborne gangs have increased their attacks in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden in recent months, making tens of millions of dollars in ransoms from seizing ships, including tankers and dry bulkers. Several vessels have been hijacked this week alone.

Turkish girl buried alive for...talking to boys

A 16 year old Turkish girl was buried alive by her family members for allegedly having relations with boys. You would think you can become desensitized to stories like these but that isn't the case. This is just sick, sick, sick! Guardian

Turkish police have recovered the body of a 16-year-old girl they say was buried alive by relatives in an "honour" killing carried out as punishment for talking to boys.

The girl, who has been identified only by the initials MM, was found in a sitting position with her hands tied, in a two-metre hole dug under a chicken pen outside her home in Kahta, in the south-eastern province of Adiyaman.[...]

Media reports said the father had told relatives he was unhappy that his daughter – one of nine children – had male friends. The grandfather is said to have beaten her for having relations with the opposite sex.

A postmortem examination revealed large amounts of soil in her lungs and stomach, indicating that she had been alive and conscious while being buried. Her body showed no signs of bruising.

Turkey's First Lady not on the schedule...

Michelle obama ermine erdogan

Don't tell me SHE crashed the White House, too!

From the Chicago Sun Times:

"This was not on First Lady Michelle Obama's schedule, but this does seem like official business: she met Tuesday with Ermine (sic) Erdogan, wife of the Prime Minister of Turkey, in the Yellow Oval Room of the White House, Dec. 8, 2009."

(The correct spelling of the Prime Minister's name is Emine - fyi.)

Can't find any report of what was discussed - or why, but it has been reported that Michelle O wore some new J. Crew.

(I'm not really sure what kind of rig Emine has on.)

Turkish Minister urges muslims to take money out of Swiss bank accounts

A Turkish minister is urging muslims to take out money out of Swiss bank accounts after the Swiss voted to ban minarets.

From AKI

Ankara, 2 Dec. (AKI) - Muslims should consider withdrawing their money from Swiss bank accounts in response to the country's ban on construction of minarets, a Turkish minister said. "I am certain this (vote) will prompt our brothers from Muslim countries who keep their money and investments in Swiss banks to review their decision," said Egemen Bagis, cited by Turkish daily Zaman.[...]

Turkish president Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday that Switzerland's vote was contrary to fundamental rights and freedoms.
Perhaps Turkey should look first to their own backyard where Christians, Jews, Hindus and just about any religious group other than islam can't build a place of worship. Countries like Saudi Arabia, and Egypt are prime examples.

Turkey and Syria hold first joint military exercise

The Obama administration has given Turkey the green light to participate with Syria in a join military exercise.

Now why would an allegedly important member of NATO participate in military exercises with an ally of Iran? Is this Obama's idea of reaching out. The Obama administration has also allowed Turkey to sell arms and send trainers to the Lebanese army, which has vowed to fight along side Hizbollah in the next war with Israel.DEBKA

The joint Turkish-Syrian tank and armored infantry exercise backed by air power begins across the Turkish-Syrian border Monday, April 27, and lasts three days.

DEBKAfile's military sources stress that it is the first joint military maneuver any NATO member, including Turkey, has ever carried out with Syria. It appears to have received a nod from the Obama administration and another first: Never before has an important NATO power staged a joint exercise with any Arab army.[...]

It comes only four days after another first US step: Tuesday, April 22, DEBKAfile's exclusive sources reported that the Obama administration had just approved a large Turkish arms sale to the Lebanese army assigning Turkish military instructors to train Lebanese army units (half of whose personnel are Shiites sympathetic to Hizballah.)
So sympathetic that a general of the Lebanese army vowed to fight alongside Hizbollah.

Turkey recalls ambassador from Canada over vigil

Turkey has recalled its ambassador to Canada for 'consultations' because Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper dared speak to the truth about the Armenian genocide. Reuters

ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey has recalled its ambassador to Canada for consultation, said a Foreign Ministry source on Wednesday, after Canada's prime minister spoke at a vigil to commemorate the 1915 killing of Armenians.

Premier Stephen Harper gave support on Tuesday to claims that the 1915 killings by Ottoman Turks amounted to genocide, the source said, a term fiercely rejected by Ankara, which says many were killed on both sides.

"The ambassador has been called back is currently going through consultations over what to do. We don't know how long he will be here," the source said.

"He was called back due to the position of Prime Minister Harper who spoke at a commemorative vigil and whose speech recognized (the events of 1915) as genocide," said the Foreign Ministry source, speaking on condition of anonymity.

NATO picks Rasmussen for Secretary-General

Good to see that NATO didn't give into muslim demands that Rasmussen not be picked as Secretary-GEneral of NATO. However, NATO did have to wwwagree to a few concessions to Turkey.

If islam is such a tolerant religion why would it object to a leader who stands for free speech? AP

STRASBOURG, France (AP) — NATO leaders appointed Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen as NATO's new secretary-general Saturday after overcoming Turkish objections to a leader who angered Muslims around the world by supporting the right to caricature the Prophet Muhammad.

NATO's outgoing head, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, said NATO's 28 member nations reached unanimity after a series of Turkish "concerns" were addressed at the alliance's two-day, 60th-anniversary summit.

Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters that his government's requests had included the closure of a Kurdish satellite television broadcaster based in Denmark; the establishment of contacts between NATO and Islamic countries; appointment of a Turk as an aide to Fogh Rasmussen and senior NATO command positions for Turkish generals.

Turkey: Rasmussen 'loutishly disrespects' islam

Rasmussen is unacceptable to the Turks because he stood up for free speech. This is how he 'disrespected' islam. Can someone please tell me why Turkey is still a part of NATO? World Bulletin

Suat Kiniklioglu, deputy chairman of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party for foreign relations, said, "it is unacceptable that a person who loutishly disrespect our faith and holy values in the past, will head the Alliance."

In an interview with the A.A, Kiniklioglu said that election of Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen of Denmark as the new secretary-general of NATO could cause some difficulties for the Alliance because of the Islam world's perception of him."

"The Danish prime minister is a troublesome person for Turkey. There are three reasons of this: First of all, he was captured by cameras as saying after the EU Summit in 2003 that Turkey would never become a full member of the EU; then, he assumed an irresponsible and unsentimental attitude during the cartoon crisis, and lastly, he failed to prevent broadcast of Roj TV from Denmark," he said.
What a freaking racist!!!!!

Turkey holds suspicious Iranian shipment to Venezuela

Turkey has been investigating a suspicious shipment from Iran to Venezuela. The shipment was labeled tractor parts but Turkish authorities say the shipment contains lab equipment to make explosives.

An Iranian official claims the containers hold nothing of importance. Of course not, just an explosives lab kit for Hizbollah agents operating in Venezuela. International Herald Tribune

ANKARA, Turkey: Turkey was holding a suspicious shipment bound for Venezuela from Iran because it contained lab equipment capable of producing explosives, a customs official said Tuesday.

Suleyman Tosun, a customs official at the Mediterranean port of Mersin, said military experts were asked to examine the material, which was seized last month, and decide whether to let the shipment to go to Venezuela.

Authorities detected the equipment during a search of 22 containers labeled "tractor parts," Tosun said. They were brought to Mersin by trucks from neighboring Iran, he said. Turkey's Interior Ministry said an investigation was under way.

Bomb Attack in Constantinople

Kurdish terrorists are suspected of detonated two bombs in Constantinople killing 17 people. AFP

ISTANBUL (AFP) — Two bombs exploded in a crowded Istanbul street, killing at least 17 people and wounding more than 150, hours before a key court hearing Monday that could result in a ban on Turkey's ruling party.

Officials said clues pointed at separatist Kurdish rebels as the perpetrators of the deadliest attack against civilians in Turkey since 2003, when 63 people were killed in four suicide bombings in Istanbul blamed on Al-Qaeda.

The Turkish media said the attacks late Sunday appeared to be in retaliation for a crackdown on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged a firm response to the "savagery."
....
The attack raised tensions ahead of a crucial meeting of the Constitutional Court on whether to ban Erdogan's Islamist-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP) for undermining Turkey's secular system.

A decision to outlaw the AKP could plunge the country into political crisis.

Both bombs were planted in concrete rubbish containers on a crowded street lined with shops and cafes in the popular Gungoren neighbourhood on Istanbul's European side, officials said.

A small bomb went off around 10:00 p.m. (1900 GMT) Sunday, creating the initial panic.

A second, more powerful explosion followed about 10 minutes later, some 50 metres (yards) away, as passers-by and residents milled around the site of the first explosion.

86 Charged for Coup Plot in Turkey

Good to see that people in Turkey do not want to see Shariah law introduced.BBC

A top Turkish prosecutor has brought charges against 86 people allegedly involved in a coup plot.

Aykut Cengiz Engin said those charged included leading figures from the army, business and the secular press.

The charges follow speculation about a shadowy group of hardline nationalists determined to act in what they see as defence of Turkey's secular values.
....
The Constitutional Court is considering a case against the AK Party, in which it is accused of aiming to introduce Sharia law in Turkey, in contravention of the strictly secular constitution.

The Turkish prime minister and president - both AKP members - are named in that case and could be barred from office. They and the party reject the charges, which they say are part of a campaign against the party.

'Provocation'

On Monday prosecutor Mr Engin filed charges at an Istanbul court against 86 people, 48 of whom are already in custody.

"The indictment covers crimes such as forming an armed terror group... and attempting to overthrow the government by force," Mr Engin said.

US Consulate in Turkey Attacked

Three terrorists and three Turkish policemen were killed in the attack. Authorities are still looking for others who were involved in the attack. New York Times

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on Turkish security guards outside the United States Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday and at least three officers were killed, the governor of Istanbul said.

Governor Muammer Guler, quoted by Reuters, said one of the policemen died at the scene after a 15-minute gun battle.

Three attackers were killed and others were being sought, the semi-official Anatolian news agency said.
....
Crowds and police milled around the 15-foot high high walls sheltering the American compound and police cordoned off the area. A helicopter was seen hovering above. Television footage showed one body lying on the ground, but news reports from Istanbul said up to six people may have died.

American officials said no employees or officials at the consulate had been killed.

The attack was the first on a diplomatic mission in the city since 2003 when 62 people were killed in assaults on the British consulate, a bank and two synagogues.
