The number of people arrested and charged with terrorism offences has gone up this year according to figures supplied by the Home Office.
This year 122 people have been arrested and 31 people have been charged with offences. In 2008-2009 there were 106 arrests with 17 charges.
The figures were in a written answer from Home Secretary Theresa May to the North Antrim DUP MP Ian Paisley.
Mr Paisley said the figures illustrated the threat from dissident republicans.
"The figures show that this year more people are actually charged rather than just arrested, which indicates the police's ability to get strong evidence has increased, which should be welcomed."
Section 44 of the Terrorism Act, which allows police to act without reasonable suspicion in a specified area, was last week ruled illegal by the European Court of Human Rights.
The rise in Section 44 searches has followed an increase in dissident republican attacks.
"If you take 2007/8 about 3,000 were stopped and searched by police using anti-terrorism powers and in 2008/9 it rose to 10,000, and one can only conclude the stop and search powers have been successful.
"It is important we don't allow the human rights agenda, as important as that is, to affect the safety of ordinary people here," Mr Paisley added.

(Reuters) - Security forces in Northern Ireland have defused a 300 lb (136 kg) bomb in an abandoned van outside a police station, which would have been deadly if it had been detonated, police said on Friday.
Some 350 people were evacuated from their homes in the border village of Aughnacloy in County Tyrone late on Thursday, after police were made aware of a telephone warning and told the device would go off within the hour.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said dissident Republicans opposed to Northern Ireland's peace process had called in a coded warning to a Belfast newspaper but declined to say which dissident group had claimed responsibility.
"I have no doubt that if this device had detonated it would have caused complete devastation and lives would certainly have been lost," PSNI Superintendent Brian Kee said. Local inhabitants said the van was abandoned with the engine running and the driver's door open.

German owned Irish megastore bans Israeli potatoes

A leading food and retail megastore that operates in Ireland has stopped selling two lines of baby potatoes that are sourced fro Israel.
German owned megastore LIDL is one of Ireland's largest chain store's and they deny that the banning of Israeli products is politically motivated.
The Irish public have reacted angrily to the Israeli's illegal raid of the Gaza aid flotilla. Indeed many have began to boycott Israeli products and websites and leaflets are being distributed asking the public to avoid purchasing products that have a barcode number starting with the numbers 729 (denotes Israeli origin).

Islam establishes a beach head in Ireland

These plans were revealed in Arabic on the website for the new Saudi embassy in Dublin. The Saudis intend to use the embassy to "further develop our political, trade and cultural relations with Ireland."
The Saudi ambassador to Ireland, Abdulaziz Aldriss, said, "Many Saudi students have found Ireland as a friendly destination to improve their English language skills and pursue their second and third-level education." (Ed. Note: Just like the 9/11 hijackers found America to be!)
Ireland has a Muslim population of more than 40,000 people, but there are only about 400 Saudi students and 15 Saudi families in Ireland.
Speaking to the Irish Times, Ali Selim, a theologian based at the Islamic Centre in Clonskeagh, welcomed the news and said if the high school opened it would "achieve a long-cherished Muslim ambition" in Ireland.
That would be the establishment of the caliphate, possums.

Doped up muslim jailed for shining laser at landing passenger jet

Hossein Hosseiny briefly illuminated the cockpit of the Dublin to Cardiff aircraft which was carrying 52 people on board on the evening of March 8.
The pilot said the actions of the 21-year-old father-to-be from the Countisbury Avenue area of Llanrumney, Cardiff, caused a "momentary loss of concentration" during his approach to the runway due to a "dazzling green light".
The incident was reported immediately by the pilot to air traffic control and Hosseiny, a failed asylum seeker from Afghanistan, was arrested soon after in the nearby Porthkerry Park area of Barry.
Prosecutor David Thomas told Cardiff Crown Court that, during a search, officers found Hosseiny in a car intoxicated with a friend. Cannabis was also found in the vehicle which Hosseiny later admitted supplying to his friend.

DUBLIN (Reuters) - Police in Northern Ireland said Saturday they had carried out a series of controlled explosions on a large homemade bomb found in an abandoned car south of Belfast.
A dissident nationalist organization claimed responsibility for the device in a call to local media and the police said they were investigating that claim.
The bomb, packed with 300 pounds (136.1 kg) of explosives, was defused in Castlewellan, a town around 30 miles south of Belfast.
"The people who carried this out showed a callous disregard for the lives of everyone in our community," Superintendent Greg Blain said in a statement.
Three decades of sectarian violence in the British-ruled province ended in 1998 with a peace deal between the Irish Republican Army, which seeks a united Ireland, and pro-British Protestant groups.
But sporadic violence continues and armed republican dissidents and pro-British loyalist groups continue to be involved in paramilitary and criminal activities.
Earlier this month, the head of the police in the Republic of Ireland said dissident republicans remained a serious threat.
"While their capability is still somewhat questionable, and I wouldn't like to underestimate it, their intentions, it would seem to me, are still quite focused in carrying out some meaningful, in their view, atrocity in Northern Ireland," Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy told the Irish Times newspaper.
