(AP) – NATO says a man wearing an Afghan army uniform has killed two service members in eastern Afghanistan.
The alliance says the two NATO troops were killed on Thursday when the man turned his weapon against them.
NATO released no further details and did not disclose the nationalities of the slain service members. There was no word on what happened to the attacker.

In a statement on its public relations website, Pakistan's military, which sets foreign and security policy, said that its response to the NATO strike could have been more effective had it been able to scramble its aircraft in time.
"The response could have been more effective if PAF (Pakistan Air Force) had also joined in. However, it was no fault of PAF," the statement said.
"The timely decision could not be taken due to breakdown of communication with the affected posts and, therefore, lack of clarity of situation, at various levels, including the Corps Headquarters and GHQ (General Headquarters)."

Afghan and NATO-led coalition forces during operations have killed 25 Taliban insurgents in different Afghan provinces over the past 24 hours, Afghan Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
"Afghan National Police (ANP), Afghan Army and ISAF ( International Security Assistance Force) forces in 14 joint operations over the past 24 hours in Kabul, Heart, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Paktia, Helmand and Khost provinces have killed 25 Taliban insurgents," the ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement joint force also captured five armed militants during the same operations besides seizing a handful of weapons and ammunitions.

Nato says at least 115 insurgents have been killed in ongoing operations in a northeastern Afghan province known for being a hotbed of foreign militant fighters.
The US-led alliance said on Thursday the fighting in rugged Kunar province near the Afghan-Pakistani border has been going on since around October, 15.
Nato says the coalition and its Afghan partners have killed at least 115 insurgents over the past week to 10 days.
It says Nato and Afghan forces have been involved in a ”series of multiple, smaller operations that have a combined, larger impact.”

NATO said Thursday it had killed a Taliban commander who was linked to an operation that ended with the deaths of 30 American servicemen after their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan.
Qari Tahir was killed Tuesday in Wardak province in a precision air strike after being located along with an associate, NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.
"Tahir coordinated ambush attacks against Afghan forces and led fighters under his control to conduct hijackings of convoy vehicles. Additionally, he facilitated abductions and held his hostages for ransom," ISAF said.
The statement added, "Tahir was the Taliban's top leader in Tangi Valley and was the target of a previous combined operation on Aug. 5, 2011, that resulted in the loss of the CH-47 Chinook last month. He led a group of insurgent fighters throughout the valley and was known to use roadside bombs and rockets to intimidate the local populace."

The deaths are thought to represent the largest loss of military lives in a single incident in the course of the nearly 10-year-old war.
NATO's International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, confirmed in a terse statement that a crash had occurred and acknowledged "insurgent activity" in the area at the time. A Western military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Chinook helicopter had apparently been brought down by a rocket-propelled grenade.

Nato sends more troops to Kosovo after border unrest

Nato is sending hundreds of extra troops to Kosovo amid rising tension in the north along its border with Serbia.
The military alliance said the situation had not deteriorated but that reinforcements were needed to relieve troops currently patrolling the north.
Soldiers from Nato's Kosovo Force were deployed after clashes broke out between Kosovo police and ethnic Serbs.
The trouble began when the Kosovan government sent ethnic Albanian police to enforce a ban on Serbian imports.
A border post was torched and demolished and a Kosovo policeman killed after Serbian nationalists reacted angrily to their presence.

Afghan and NATO forces said Tuesday that 35 people — most of them insurgenhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifts — have been killed in escalating violence as the Taliban try to regain territory lost during the winter months to the U.S.-led coalition.
There has been fierce fighting around Afghanistan, but most has been focused in the southwestern Helmand province and other parts of the southern Taliban heartland. Violence has increased since the insurgents launched an offensive last April.
The office of Helmand Gov. Gulab Mangal said that two separate clashes on Monday left a total of 22 insurgents and two police officers dead. The governor's office also said two young boys were killed as they stepped on a roadside bomb in Helmand.
The provincial capital, Lashkar Gah, was one of seven areas where the coalition last week handed over responsibility for security to Afghan forces. The handover was part of a transition plan that eventually will give the Afghan government control of security around the country by the end of 2014, when foreign combat troops are to leave Afghanistan.

KANDAHAR: An Afghan army soldier killed at least one Nato soldier on Saturday, near the southern Afghgan city of Lashkar Gah, due this week to be one of the first places where Nato will hand security control to Afghan forces, a senior police source said.
“The shooting happened during a joint security patrol,” said the senior police detective, who asked not to be named as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
The Nato-led International Security Assistance Force said it was investigating an incident in southern Afghanistan.
“An individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform turned his weapon against International Security Assistance Force service members in southern Afghanistan today, killing one service member,” ISAF said in a statement.

A report released by the United nations on Thursday indicates that civilihttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifan deaths in war-torn Afghanistan have shot up to a record level in the first six months of the current year.
According to the report, at least 1,462 civilians were killed in Afghanistan during January-June, indicating a 15 per cent rise when compared to the same period last year. This implies that 2011 may be on track to become the deadliest year for Afghan civilians since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion of the country.
"The rising tide of violence and bloodshed in the first half of 2011 brought injury and death to Afghan civilians at levels without recorded precedent in the current armed conflict," United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in its mid-year report.
"As the conflict intensified in the traditional fighting areas of the south and southeast and moved to districts in the west and north, civilians experienced a downward spiral in protection," it added.
Most of the civilian deaths occurred in insurgent attacks and in military operations conducted by the Afghan and international coalition forces stationed in the country. About 80 per cent of the civilian casualties were blamed on insurgent attacks, mostly those involving roadside bombs, suicide-bombings and improvised explosive devices (IED).
The report also held the international coalition forces under the joint command of the United States and NATO as well as the Afghan security forces for 14 per cent of the civilian deaths, indicating a drop of nine per cent from the previous year. It blamed most of the civilian deaths caused by NATO forces on air strikes.

Gaddafi delivered the warning in a telephone speech to thousands of supporters gathered in the main square of the capital Tripoli. He warned that Libyans could take revenge on European homes, offices and families. He also denounced the rebels as traitors and blamed them for Libya's troubles.
Despite the current situation, the international community is still working on how to solve the Libyan crisis. African heads of state have been trying to reach consensus on what to do with Gaddafi.

A Nato air strike in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, has killed the son of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, a government spokesman has said.
Saif al-Arab and three of Col Gaddafi's grandchildren died at their villa in the Bab al-Aziziya compound, he said.
The Libyan leader himself was in the villa at the time, the spokesman said, but was unharmed.
Nato said it had hit a "known command-and-control building" in the area, adding it did not "target individuals".
An alliance spokesman, Lt Gen Charles Bouchard, said "all Nato's targets are military in nature".
He added that he was aware of reports that members of Col Gaddafi's family had been killed, but made no further comment.
"We regret all loss of life, especially the innocent civilians being harmed as a result of the ongoing conflict," said Lt Gen Bouchard.

Armed US Predator drones are to carry out missions over Libya, Defence Secretary Robert Gates has said.
Mr Gates said their use had been authorised by President Barack Obama and would give "precision capability" to the military operation.
Unmanned US drones are already used to target militants along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Libyan rebels have been battling Col Gaddafi's troops since February but have recently made little headway.
"President Obama has said that where we have some unique capabilities, he is willing to use those," Mr Gates told a news conference.
He said two Predators were being made available to Nato as needed, and marked a "modest contribution" to the military operations.

Five foreign and five Afghan troops have died in an attack in eastern Afghanistan, officials say.
A Taliban suicide bomber wearing a military uniform hit an Afghan army base near the city of Jalalabad, the Afghan defence ministry said.
Coalition officials said five foreign troops died but gave no more details. Four Afghan soldiers and four translators were said to be injured.
The attack was one of the deadliest in months against foreign troops.
It took place shortly after 0730 (0330 GMT) when the bomber approached the gate of the military base and detonated his explosives.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing, adding that the attacker was a "sleeper agent" who had served in the army for at least one month before launching his attack.
However, Afghan officials strongly denied that suggestion, insisting that the bomber was wearing a military uniform but not a serving soldier.
Authorities will have to wait until all the pieces of the alleged suicide bomber are put back together to be 100% for sure!

Arab Countries on the Sidelines in Libya Campaign
Well really now, This has been obvious from the git go; Arab countries have cried out for America and other countries to come to the aid of the Libyan rebellion.
But not one Arab country has stepped up in any way to help out!
So typical of Muslim countries.
So in comes the Coalition of the willing, and where are the Arab countries now sitting around bitching over what we are doing!
This is why I have been saying we should let them take care of Libya themselves.

US backs no-fly zone over Libya
I understand that the Arab countries want a no fly zone established over Libya, Why the hell is there not one Arab country willing to jump in and help out?

NATO Airstrikes Kill 25 in Eastern Afghanistan

Coalition and Afghan forces struck back at insurgents in the eastern part of the country Saturday, following a series of attacks blamed on the Taliban.
NATO officials say more than 25 suspected insurgents were killed in an air strike in eastern Kunar province Saturday.
Meanwhile, a coalition patrol elsewhere in Kunar province killed an unknown number of insurgents after coming under attack. The patrol had been clearing a suspected bomb in the Darah-ye Pech district.
