Somali government seizes Bulo Hawo town from al-Shabab

A little bit of smackdown for Al shabab.

Somalia's government says 11 al-Shabab fighters and one government soldier were killed in Sunday's fighting.

Maybe there will be more operations like this in Somalia.

BBC

Pro-Somali government forces have seized the town of Bulo Hawo on the border with Kenya and Ethiopia from the hardline Islamist group al-Shabab.

This is seen as a significant victory for the weak, UN-backed government against the al-Qaeda-linked militants.

Al-Shabab and their allies control most of southern and central Somalia but pro-government forces have been gaining ground in recent weeks.

Kenya has responded by boosting security along the border.

Pirates fight amongst themselve for money

HAHAHA Bloomberg

Jan. 19 (Bloomberg) -- At least three Somali pirates were killed and three others wounded in an overnight gun battle in the town of Haradhere over the sharing of a ransom paid for the release of a Greek-flagged supertanker, elders and pirates said.

“The fighting started during an argument over the dividing of the ransom paid for the ship,” Bashir Shiine Muse, a pirate who claims his group hijacked the Maran Centaurus, said by telephone from Haradhere today. “Three men died and three others were wounded during the crossfire. Local elders are trying to mediate between the two sides.”

The ransom, believed to be a record $7 million, was dropped onto the tanker on Jan. 17, Muse said. “There is mistrust within the group because there are rumors that some extra money has been transferred into another bank account that some of us weren’t aware of,” he said.

"Racial" tensions in Rochester schools.

This time it's the marauding Muslim Somalis vs. the African Americans. Last week it was 20 marauding Muslim Somalis on 1 white guy.

(There is no comment from the Diversity Council.)

From KAAL.TV:

Racial tensions are rising within the Rochester School District. The most recent incident took place this morning when a group of students erupted into a fight. According to police that fight was between a group of Somalis and African Americans. It happened in the cafeteria.

Police say no weapons were used and no one was seriously injured. School District Officials wouldn't talk to us on camera, but did issue a statement. They say they are continuing to gather information about the fight, and that “student safety is their utmost concern.”

We also talked to the Somali Community Service Organization, which says violence is a problem that needs to be addressed before it gets worse. "Everyone needs peaceful. We don't need more problems. No, we don't need to be worried our kid is going to school because they're going to get in a fight because they always know school is safe for our kids," said Andrea Bec.

Bec says the one way to make the community safe is to quote, "hold a meeting to get to the root of the problem. These are serious issues that need to be discussed in all the schools with the teachers and principals and all those and their parents so the community will do something together," said Bec.

The Diversity Council runs a program called Spark in the Rochester Public Schools. Its goal is to reduce prejudice and discrimination and foster tolerance among students. We tried calling the diversity council today, but our calls were not returned.

This latest fight comes less than a week after a racially inspired altercation broke out at Owatonna High School. Students say it was between 20 Somali students and one white student.

Al Shabaab threatens violence to US arms shipment to Somali government

Al Shabaab is threatening everyone under the sun. AP

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — A Somali radical Islamic insurgent says weapons and ammunition the United States recently supplied to Somalia's embattled government will only increase violence in the war-wracked country.

Sheik Hassan Ya'qub, a spokesman for the militant group al-Shabab in the port town of Kismayo, was responding to an announcement by U.S. officials last week that the Obama administration had supplied arms and provided military training worth just under $10 million to the shaky official government.

"The weapons sent to the so-called government will only escalate violence in Somalia and we, the holy warriors, believe that we will eventually seize them," said Ya'qub.
I actually believe him too.

Rebels rush to Mogadishu, residents fear more bloodshed

Though I feel for the Innocent people of Somalia , Most of which have fled the country ,  I have no pity for what happens there !  Somalia has been handed , several times , a new lease on a calm country ! They have continuously pissed it away ! They have no respect for life !   Somalia will most definitely fall to radical Muslims , And the rest of the world will watch ( Nobody Wants any part of this one ), we only have to figure out how to stop them from spreading their Disease outside of the little Cesspool that is Somalia

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Rebel reinforcements rushed to Mogadishu
Saturday to confront a government offensive after one of the bloodiest
days of combat in the Somali capital in months.

"The fighting in Mogadishu will intensify the coming days," an opposition source said.

At least 45 people were killed and 200 wounded Friday in clashes between Islamist insurgents and pro-government forces.

Neighboring states and Western governments fear Somalia, which has
been mired in civil war for 18 years, could become a haven for
militants linked to al Qaeda unless the new government can defeat them.

Islamist insurgents took up arms in 2007 to drive out invading
Ethiopian troops propping up a Western-backed government which failed
to wield any control over swathes of the Horn of Africa nation.

Since then, fighting has killed at least 17,700 civilians and driven
more than 1 million from their homes. About 3 million Somalis survive
on emergency food aid.
The United Nations refugee agency UNHCR says 49,000 people have fled fighting in Mogadishu in the past two weeks.

Al Shabaab, which Washington says has close ties to al Qaeda, and
Islamist guerrilla group Hizbul Islam have been spearheading attacks on
the government, allied militia and African Union peacekeepers.

Somali pirates leave Ukrainian ship-maritime group

Paying terrorists their ransom is never a good Idea ! It just encourages them !!!
But we can only hope that some of these Jackass's suffer the same as the last ones ! The sinking of their dingy , resulting in drowning !

NAIROBI (Reuters) - A Ukrainian ship carrying 33 tanks seized by Somali pirates in September will be freed shortly following a ransom payment, a Kenyan-based piracy monitoring group said on Thursday.

"We hear the pirates are leaving the Faina now in small groups and it will be underway shortly," said Andrew Mwangura of the East African Seafarers Assistance Program.

The MV Faina was captured in September with its 20-man crew and a cargo of Soviet-era T-72 tanks plus other weapons. Its seizure drew international attention, not only for its military cargo, but for a regional row over the destination of the tanks.

A local man helping negotiate the release of the ship told Reuters on Wednesday the pirates had been paid a ransom of $3.2 million. Mwangura said earlier on Thursday that about 100 gunmen were aboard the vessel counting the cash.

Chinese ships head to Somalia

Very strange to here about the Chinese navy heading out to do battle with the Pirates of Somalia !
But the more help there the better , even Japan is trying to get into the situation, Which is kinda significant because they have not been able to help out in situations that require them to actually do anything besides Non Combat ,Since WWII ! A Pacifist Country ! ready to fight back ! Just Crazy !

BEIJING/TOKYO (Reuters) - Three Chinese naval vessels left for Somalia on Friday to help tackle piracy in a sign of the country's rising global clout, and Japan said it may soon follow suit.

The destroyers Haikou and Wuhan, two of China's navy's most sophisticated warships, set sail from the southern resort island of Hainan along with a supply vessel, the official Xinhua news agency said. The three ships have about 800 crew, including 70 special operations troops, Xinhua said.

"We have made special preparations to deal with pirates, even though these waters are not familiar to us," it quoted mission commander Rear-Admiral Du Jingcheng as saying.
....

The crack forces are expected to give the fleet an edge in seeing off the pirates, with one of the soldiers able to "handle several enemies with (his) bare hands," Xinhua said.

"Our primary target is not striking them but dispelling them," Du said. "If the pirates make direct threats against the warships or the vessels we escort, the fleet will take counter measures."

A surge in attacks at sea this year in the busy Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean off Somalia has pushed up insurance costs, brought the Somali gangs tens of millions of dollars in ransom and prompted foreign warships to the area.

Now Japan is considering sending its ships too, which could prove a legal and diplomatic headache for Tokyo, whose military activities overseas are tightly restricted by its post-World War Two pacifist constitution.

Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso ordered Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada to press ahead with talks on how the armed forces could act against the pirates, the government's top spokesman told reporters.

"He ordered the defense minister to speed up considerations so that we can act quickly," Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura told reporters.

U.S. Somalia peacekeeping idea hits resistance at U.N

I agree with this 100 percent ! It has to be the smartest thing anyone has come up with yet !
What you have in Somalia , Is a WAR , Islamic extremists are taking over And doing whatever they want ! It has been this way for over 15 years!
If you send in a bunch of "Peacekeepers" The Bloodshed would be Horrific !
These Idiot's are absolute savages !
A full scale military assault would also be A disaster on a different scale , Especially if the U.S. is involved ! If you think the wacky extremists Hate us NOW, you can bet they will hate us more!!! But if your going to go in you better cover your ass , with heavy fire power ,and full Military support !!! This is one for My "Escape from New York" Theory ! Enclose them , leave them ! survival of the fittest ! then the world could truly see what Islamic Extremism can do !!!

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The U.N. chief and France on Wednesday cast doubt on U.S. calls to authorize a U.N. peacekeeping force for Somalia quickly, saying the situation was too dangerous for blue helmets.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Tuesday for the first time that the U.N. should deploy peacekeepers in the unstable West African country. Washington will push for a Security Council authorizing resolution by the year's end.

But U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said, "the situation is not ripe, the conditions are not favorable ... If there is no peace to keep, peacekeeping operations are not supposed to be there."
....

Instead, Ban suggested bolstering an African Union force, known as AMISOM, that is supposed help Somalis themselves to restore security but has so far proved ineffectual.

The Security Council on Tuesday authorized countries fighting piracy off the Somali coast to take action inside the country and in its airspace, with consent of the government.

France's U.N. Ambassador Jean-Maurice Ripert, asked if Rice's proposal was realistic, said: "No, it is not ... We think it's not feasible and it's not desirable."

The situation had to be stabilized before U.N. peacekeepers could be deployed, Ripert said.

Council members agree they must tackle violence, chaos and humanitarian catastrophe in Somalia, Ripert said. But they disagree on how to act.

Islamists control most of southern Somalia, feuding clan militias hold sway elsewhere, and Ethiopian troops backing the weak government plan to pull out.

A previous attempt by outside powers to help end starvation in Somalia ended badly. Eighteen U.S. soldiers died and 73 were wounded in the "Battle of Mogadishu" on October 3 and 4, 1993.

The battle, which inspired the film "Black Hawk Down, marked the beginning of the end for a U.S.-U.N. peacekeeping force that left in 1995.

Ban told the Security Council last month around 10,000 highly skilled troops would be needed to stabilize Somalia. After that, a U.N. peacekeeping force of some 22,500 troops would be deployed, along with additional police and civilians.

But after contacting some 50 countries, Ban said none had volunteered to lead a stabilization force and only one or two would be willing to provide troops.

The United States has offered funding, training, equipment, airlifts and logistics -- but no troops.

Rice said some African states were ready to send troops. U.N. diplomats say Washington has proposed converting AMISOM to a U.N. force while training and equipping more troops from Burundi and Uganda, which already have 3,200 soldiers there.
But one U.N official said they would lack the skills, air support and intelligence capability needed to secure Mogadishu.

"You need peace enforcers, not peacekeepers," he said.

Pirates threaten to scrap ransom deal

The only payment the islamic pirates should receive is a couple of bullets to the back of the head. Dawn

MOGADISHU, Dec 7: Somali pirates holding an arms-laden Ukrainian cargo ship on Sunday accused the owners of stalling on a ransom payment and threatened to pull out of a deal for its release struck a week ago.
[...]

A pirate spokesman told AFP that the armed gang holding the Faina was unhappy about the delay in the ransom payment.

“The ship’s owners are taking too long to hand over the money,” the spokesman, identifying himself only as Ahmed, said. “There have been consultations between the force on the ground and on the ship and everyone agreed that if the money is not delivered on time, to abandon the agreement,” he added.

Elders in the area, who did not wish to be named, said a ransom of $3.5 million had been agreed for the ship, carrying 33 Soviet-type battle tanks, rocket launchers and ammunition when it was seized off Somalia two months ago.

India. Pirate 'mothership' was fishing boat

WhoopsCanada.com

The pirate "mothership" destroyed by the Indian navy in the Gulf of Aden was a hijacked Thai fishing boat and its crew was tied up below decks. The vessel, which was sunk by INS Tabar, an Indian frigate, on the night of Nov. 18, was the Ekawat Nava 5, a deep-sea trawler, rather than a floating pirate armoury loaded with supplies of ammunition and explosives, as India had claimed. Wicharn Sirichaiekawat, the manager of the Bangkok-based Sirichai Fisheries, the ship's owner, said the facts emerged when one of his crew was found alive, adrift in the Indian Ocean. He said 14 others were still missing and at least one was confirmed dead.
