EA won't let gamers play Taliban in new video game
No more Taliban Mode , now called Opposing Force .
A little mixed on this , I definitely understand the view of those put off by the whole idea of playing the Taliban . But it isn't anything new , one of the best aspects of online play is that you could play the opposing side . Still , I can't wait to play it .

Electronic Arts Inc. will no longer allow gamers to play the newest edition of its military-themed video game "Medal of Honor" as Taliban fighters "shooting" U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, the video game publisher said Friday.
In a posting on the company's "Medal of Honor" blog, EA said that it is renaming the "Taliban" team "Opposing Force" in the wake of concerns voiced by friends and families of soldiers who have died.
The option to play as the Taliban was to be included in the multiplayer mode of "Medal of Honor" that is coming out Oct. 12.
The game is set in modern Afghanistan, where some 140,000 U.S. and NATO troops are fighting the Taliban. The story is told through a small group of characters known as "Tier 1" operators, elite fighters who take their orders directly from the president and defense secretary.

Yeah it may not be P.C. , it may be Offensive to Some but just remember , it is a Damn Video Game !

(Aug. 13) -- It's a standard feature of World War II-themed video games like Electronic Arts' best-selling "Medal of Honor" series: In multiplayer sessions, while some players take the roles of Allied troops, the other half wind up playing as soldiers of the Third Reich. Now EA's next "Medal of Honor" release is set to up the discomfort factor that comes with such an option. Set in modern-day Afghanistan, it will allow users to play as the Taliban.
Developer DICE has emphasized that it isn't trying to make any grand political statements with the game. Along with publisher EA, it says it's not possible to make a game about a contemporary war without including this kind of feature -- and facing the controversy that comes with it.
"Most of us having been doing this since we were 7 -- if someone's the cop, someone's gotta be the robber, someone's gotta be the pirate and someone's gotta be the alien," Amanda Taggart, senior PR manager for EA, told AOL News. "In 'Medal of Honor' multiplayer, someone's gotta be the Taliban."

While the Nazis in the old "Medal of Honor" came at the safe remove of history, having U.S. children portray Taliban insurgents trying to gun down U.S. forces via the game is indisputably more in-your-face. The game is also set to launch amid the deadliest stretch of the Afghan war for the American military, which has lost more than 1,200 soldiers in the conflict so far. "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" caused a stir when it allowed the player to take part in a terrorist attack on a Russian airport, and that wasn't connected to a real American war.

EA redeploys Medal of Honor to Afghanistan
As if there was not enough controversy with Modern Warfare 2 , Another videogame is to be put out about "Real World " Situations , Like hunting terrorists in Afghanistan !

Electronic Arts has ordered its Medal of Honor franchise to report for duty in war-torn Afghanistan.
The new first-person shooter game - expected in 2010 - will introduce a relatively unknown entity known as the Tier 1 Operator. The enigmatic special forces operative is apparently well known for assuming command of missions that "no one else can handle."
"[Our] development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience," EA explained in an official statement.
"Set against the backdrop of a rugged and brutal Afghan landscape, Medal of Honor depicts modern military operations through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today's most elite American soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism."
According to EA, Medal of Honor will feature a best-in-class single player campaign, as well as world-class multiplayer experience.
"When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today's war," said company spokesperson Greg Goodrich.
"The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war. We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience."

Over here at EndSights, much like the rest of you (or not), we’ve taken a glance or fifty at the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Through all these looks, here are some of the things we’ve noticed in the trailer:
* Rio de Janeiro appears to be confirmed as a location, as the “Christ the Redeemer” statue can be clearly seen in trailer.
* You’ll now be able to stick foes with grenades.
* There will be customized killstreak loadouts.
* There are 15 different killstreak rewards for you to choose from.
* One of the confirmed killstreak loadouts is the AC130 gunship, which was one of the highlights of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
* Ability to take out the AC130 gunship with an RPG
* Ability to lock-onto targets with RPGs — in the trailer, you can see the missile that is headed towards the AC130 gunship curve. Also, notice the beeping sound it makes as the RPG is held in place.
* At least one gun that will have radar-mounted on it — so when you bring up the iron sights, radar will be right in your field of vision.
* “Buzzkilling” challenge — get points for killing someone on a killstreak.
* “Payback” challenge — challenge that nets you points for killing a player that had killed you earlier in the match
* Increase in points per kill. It appears that 50 points will now be rewarded per kill, as compared to Modern Warfare’s 10. It’s unclear whether that will have any impact on leveling quicker.
* Footage is taken from the Xbox 360 version of the game.
* You will be playing as a U.S. Army Ranger for at least part of the game — a U.S. Army Ranger symbol is present.

SLAYING hordes of bad guys in fast-paced video games improves vision, a study has shown for the first time.
Far from being harmful to eyesight, as some had feared, action games provide excellent training for what eye doctors call contrast sensitivity, the study found.
Contrast sensitivity is the ability to notice tiny changes in shades of grey against a uniform background, and is critical to everyday activities such as night driving and reading. It often degrades with age.

I just downloaded the BETA version of COD5 MP. Didn't get a chance to use the flamethrower yet or drive a tank. But so far the game seem pretty cool. But I think I'll still be playing a lot of COD4.

Muslim Massacre Game Creates Waves
A free computer game, called Muslim Massacre, available online has angered a lot of muslim groups in Britain. But reading the intro to the game "The United States of America has declare war on islam! Take control of the American hero and wipe out the muslim race with an arsenal of the world's most destructive weapons!" it seems like taliban/al Qaida propaganda to me. AFP

Players in the game -- the aim of which is to "ensure that no Muslim man or woman is left alive" -- control an "American Hero" wielding a machine gun and a rocket launcher parachuted into the Middle East.The Ramadhan Foundation, a British Muslim youth organisation, voiced "deep condemnation and anger" at the game, accusing it of "glorifying the killing of Muslims in the Middle East."
Actually, there are many games out there that do just that. I've never seen any muslim groups bitch about those.
"Encouraging children and young people in a game to kill Muslims is unacceptable, tasteless and deeply offensive," said the Foundation's chief executive, Mohammed Shafiq.
"If it was the other way around, with a game featuring Muslims killing Israelis or Americans, there would be uproar and rightly so," he said, urging ISPs to block the site.

New video game depicts Venezuela mercenary attack
Its only once in awhile I get really exited about a video game ,halo3,cod4,gta4, Just to name a few ,the original Mercenaries though a little tedious was a great game, endless hours of blowing stuff up and of course SHOOTING!Controversial games make it even better,anyone remember "Fugitive Hunter" ? the game where you pursue Osama Bin Laden ! one of my favorites,it was Dumb but you get to kick Osamas ass!

CARACAS (Reuters) - A video game depicting mercenaries storming Venezuela, which has been criticized in the oil-rich South American country as a blueprint for an invasion, will be released by a U.S. company this weekend.
The release is likely to anger allies of President Hugo Chavez, a Washington foe, who has in the past threatened to cut off oil exports to the United States.
The game, "Mercenaries 2: World in Flames," will be released on Sunday by a division of Electronic Arts Inc and is set in a "fully destructible Venezuela," the company said in a news release.
"A power hungry tyrant uses Venezuela's oil supply to overthrow the government and turns the country into a war zone," the company says of the game on its Web site.
In 2006, when the game was first announced, lawmakers from Chavez's coalition called it an example of a U.S. government-inspired propaganda campaign against Chavez that could even help lay the psychological groundwork for an actual invasion.
"All the controversy around this is kind of comical," Electronic Arts spokesman Jeff Brown said. "At the end of the day you have to remind yourself it's a damned video game."
The government on Friday said it could not immediately comment on the game's release.
Chavez, who first tried to take power by force in 1992, was elected to office in 1998. Relations with the United States deteriorated dramatically after Washington initially welcomed a short-lived coup against him.
The former soldier, who is popular among the poor for spending the proceeds of an oil boom on social programs, frequently accuses the United States, Venezuela's main oil client, of plotting to overthrow him.
He has replaced aging military equipment with billions of dollars of Russian weapons including fighter jets and plans to strengthen the country's reservist army to repel, he says, a potential U.S. invasion.
A trailer for the game, set in 2010, features mercenaries with American accents storming oil installations during a bloody coup by a tyrant called Ramon Solano.
"It is time the Venezuelan people stop paying for the greed of foreign interests, we will make them pay dearly for our oil. From this day forward everybody pays," the character says before shots of helicopter gunships and tanks attacking familiar Venezuelan landscapes.
Chavez has nationalized oil projects owned by U.S. companies like Exxon and ConocoPhillips.
