Afghanistan News
The Taliban are ready to drop their ban on schooling girls in Afghanistan, the country's education minister has said.
Farooq Wardak told the UK's Times Educational Supplement a "cultural change" meant the Taliban were "no more opposing girls' education".
The Taliban - who are fighting the Kabul government - have made no public comment on the issue.
Afghan women were not allowed to work or get an education under the Taliban regime overthrown in 2001.
Mr Wardak made his comments during the Education World Forum in London.
He told the TES: "What I am hearing at the very upper policy level of the Taliban is that they are no more opposing education and also girls' education.
"I hope, Inshallah (God willing), soon there will be a peaceful negotiation, a meaningful negotiation with our own opposition and that will not compromise at all the basic human rights and basic principles which have been guiding us to provide quality and balanced education to our people," the minister added.

Militants blow up girls’ school in Khyber district
Some more of the Talibans B.S. , Blowing up another girls school .
It is amusing how the Taliban are so afraid of ANYONE getting an education , It is better (For them ) to keep the people uneducated , so that they look like a bunch of Geniuses , Especially when it comes to women .
How else do you expect the Taliban to convince the people it is O.K . to molest goats ! And take on an underaged wife ?
PESHAWAR: Taliban militants blew up a girls’ school in the Khyber district on Monday, officials said
The pre-dawn school attack took place in Saddokhel town in northwest Khyber tribal district, where militants detonated explosives planted around the building, destroying all five school rooms but causing no injuries.
‘They are Taliban. They are the same people who do not want children to get an education,’ senior administration official Rahim Gul Khattak told AFP.
Militants opposed to co-education have destroyed hundreds of schools, mostly for girls, in the northwest of the country in recent years.

Girls forced to wear hijab at Hamas run schools
Wait a minute...I thought women were free to choose to wear the hijab. AFP
GAZA CITY — Schoolgirls in Hamas-run Gaza have been told to wear traditional full-length robes and headscarves in what is being seen as the latest move towards enforcing conservative Islam in the besieged enclave.
In numerous girls' schools in the Palestinian territory, which reopened their doors on Sunday following the summer recess, students were told they would be sent home if they do not conform with clothing regulations.
"We invite all schoolgirls to wear the jilbab," a senior official in the Hamas education ministry, Mahmud Abu Hassira, told AFP. The jilbab is a traditional, long, loose-fitting robe worn by women in some Muslim countries.

ReutersMINGORA, Pakistan, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Pakistani Taliban insurgents blew up four schools in the northwestern Swat region on Monday hours after a cabinet minister vowed that the government would reopen schools in the violence-plagued valley.[...]
Residents say the militants are now virtually in complete control of the valley, which is 130 km (80 miles) northwest of Islamabad and not on the Afghan border, including its main town of Mingora, where the schools were destroyed early on Monday.
"Militants blew up two girls schools and two boys schools," a top government official in the valley, Shaukat Yousafzai, told Reuters. "Attacks on troops are understandable but why are they destroying schools?"[...]
Yousafzai said the militants had destroyed 170 schools in the valley where about 55,000 girls and boys were enrolled in government-run institutions.

Another Case of Premature Detonation
Premature detonation seems to be going lately. Reuters
MINGORA, Pakistan (Reuters) - Three Islamist militants were killed by their own explosives while planting a bomb at a girls' school in Pakistan's northwestern Swat valley on Wednesday, police said.
Nearly 150 people, including about 100 pro-Taliban militants, have been killed in clashes with security forces that broke out there last week.
A spokesman for Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud warned that the group would re-start a suicide bomb campaign unless the military stopped attacking its allies in Swat.
