USA Today

The military responded on Sunday, killing Ibrahim with a group of associates as the rebels where retreating toward South Sudan, which in July seceded from Sudan and became the world's youngest country.

Ibrahim was believed to have been until recently in Libya, where he enjoyed support of Moammar Gadhafi until the death of the Libyan dictator at the hands of the country's revolutionaries.

Sudan army, Darfur rebel clash kills 17

Just one of the many ongoing uprisings in the world, more specific a certain part of the world that is just in turmoil.

(Reuters) - Darfur rebels attacked a Sudanese army supply convoy in the insurgents' mountainous Jabel Marra stronghold, leaving at least 17 people dead, the military said.

No one was immediately available for comment from the rebels group named by the military -- a faction of the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) loyal to Abdel Wahed al-Nur which walked out of peace talks in 2006 and has refused to return.

Fighting has rumbled on for eight years in the remote western territory in the face of a string of failed ceasefires, international pressure and campaigns from celebrity activists.

Newest Nation : Off to a Great Start

Only a few days old and already the country is learning about political assassinations.
The rural development minister must not have been Islamic enough.

(Reuters) - A South Sudan minister was shot dead inside his ministry on Wednesday, days after referendum results confirmed the region will become Africa's newest independent state, the southern army spokesman said.

"The minister for rural development and cooperation has been killed by a driver working at the ministry. He also killed a guard at the door of the ministry then shot himself," South Sudan's army spokesman Philip Aguer said.

Final results of a referendum on independence confirmed on Monday that South Sudan will become the world's newest nation on July 9.

Three officials confirmed the dead minister was Jimmy Lemi. No motive was immediately clear for the attack, which underlines insecurity in the South Sudan capital Juba ahead of independence.

Darfur warrant for Sudan's Bashir: ICC adds genocide

Not that anything will come of it now , they still have to arrest the man !
once he is arrested , International Criminal Court could take months and months between court dates and appeals and all the legal B.S. that goes on during a trial like this .

But at least the Proper charges have finally been filed !

He will probably Die before being convicted .

BBC
The International Criminal Court has issued a second arrest warrant for Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir - this time for charges of genocide.

He already faces charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, which he denies.

The ICC first indicted him in March 2009 but he has not been arrested.

He is accused over the conflict in Sudan's western region of Darfur, where some 300,000 people are said to have died in seven years of fighting.

The ICC had initially declined to add genocide to the indictment but this has been overturned on appeal, with the judges finding "there are reasonable grounds to believe him responsible for three counts of genocide".

Pro-government Arab militias are accused of ethnic cleansing against civilians from the Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa communities after rebel took up arms in Darfur in 2003.

The US embassy in Nicosia said Washington was not involved.

Cyprus Does this stuff on their own , The U.S. doesn't need to get involved .

Somebody want's to kick it up a notch in Sudan ? Maybe Darfur ?

BBC
Cyprus has barred a ship carrying military equipment from leaving until inspectors confirm its cargo does not breach UN and EU arms embargos.

Commerce Minister Antonis Paschalides told Cyprus Radio there was "prohibited material" on board the Santiago, such as explosives and military equipment.

The manifest of the vessel says it was sailing to Sudan and Singapore.

The EU bans arms shipments to Sudan, while there is a UN embargo on armed groups in the nation's Darfur region.

Two rounds of north-south civil war since the 1960s have cost the lives of about 1.5 million people.

Meanwhile, a continuing conflict in Darfur has driven more than 2.6 million people from their homes and killed 300,000, according to the UN.

China hits out at US at 'Security Davos'

Give me a Break , China is now going to speak out against the U.S. for an arms deal with Taiwan , One of our Allies ?
Like China has never Had any arms deals with countries we have Questions about , How about all of the Arms going to IranSince the 80's ?
And what about that Hamas Deal ?
And then their is Darfur !

AFP
MUNICH, Germany — China's foreign minister used his maiden visit to a security conference in Europe Friday to issue a broadside against US arms sales to Taiwan and to resist US pressure to get tough on Iran.

The 6.4-billion-dollar deal unveiled last month to sell arms to Taiwan, which China views as part of its territory, is "obviously a violation of the code of conduct between nations," Yang Jiechi said.

"We approached the US side and made a representation very seriously, on many occasions, yet the US still went ahead with the sale."

"Of course the Chinese government and the people have to react. It is within its sovereign right to do what is necessary... I think the Chinese people and the government of every region should feel indignant about this thing."

The spat is one of several issues to have contributed to a worsening of relations in recent weeks, together with the upcoming White House visit by the Dalai Lama and cyber attacks on US firms such as Google.

Yang's comments came on the first day of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, a 46-year-old gathering dubbed the "Davos of security policy" after the World Economic Forum held last month at the Swiss ski resort.

The forum brings together some 300 top military, diplomatic and political figures, traditionally from members of the NATO military alliance but increasingly from further afield.

Hague court issues warrant for Sudan's Bashir

Who will go in and arrest Bashir? Reuters

THE HAGUE (Reuters) - The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir for war crimes in Darfur, a decision that could spark more regional turmoil.
Maybe we should do nothing and hope that the genocide just goes away.
The warrant is the first issued against a sitting head of state by the Hague-based ICC, which stopped short of including a count of genocide over a conflict that United Nations officials say has killed as many as 300,000 people since 2003.

International reaction to Wednesday's ICC decision was mixed. The United States welcomed the ICC's decision but China urged the U.N. Security Council on Thursday to heed calls from African and Arab countries and suspend the case against Bashir.

Sudanese rebel chief meets with Mossad

A Sudanese rebel chief met with Mossad officials last month during a security conference. They discussed the problem of weapons smuggling through the Sudan that eventually reaches Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Iran is believed to smuggle most of it's weapons to Hams through the Sudan. Jerusalem Post

A powerful Sudanese rebel leader met secretly with top Israeli espionage officials in Israel earlier this month, Israeli defense officials said Monday.

The officials would not disclose the substance of the talks between Abdulwahid Elnur of the Sudan Liberation Movement and officials from the Mossad. Israel claims weapons have reached Gaza Strip militants via Sudan and that Palestinian terrorists operate there.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of a security conference Elnur attended, the officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was confidential. The Defense Ministry had no immediate comment.

Sudan protesters call for attacks on Westerners: U.S.

Ahhhh ! Stupidity ! So the people of the Sudan , one of the most screwed up part's of the world ,A place where they suffer from , Civil unrest , Genocide , Famine , Human right's violation's , and just an all around horrible place to live ! As if they don't have anything else to bitch about ! now they want to attack westerners because Israel is fighting Hamas ! Makes sense to me ?

KHARTUOM (Reuters) - Sudanese protesters have called for attacks on Americans and other foreigners living in Khartoum during rallies against the Gaza offensive, U.S. officials said Wednesday.

Students and religious groups have held small-scale protests almost every day since Israel started the attack on Gaza it says is in response to Islamist militants firing rockets into Israel.

The U.S. embassy in Khartoum said some protesters "have made threats against U.S. and other Western citizens in Sudan."
....

At least one speaker at a rally outside the embassy on Monday read out read out a list of places and neighborhoods where Westerners are known to gather, the embassy said.

The list included Khartoum's Afra shopping center; Amwag, a Middle Eastern restaurant; and O-Zone, an open air cafe popular with Westerners and rich Sudanese.

The threats come against the backdrop of an expected ruling from the International Criminal Court on whether to issue an arrest warrant against Sudan's president over suspected war crimes in Darfur.

A senior official from Sudan's Foreign Ministry told Reuters Monday an arrest warrant would fuel anti-Western sentiments already heightened by Gaza and promised to give diplomats advance warning if they were in danger.

Sudanese officials have said the global court's case is part of a Western conspiracy against Khartoum, led by the United States, Britain and France.

The U.S. embassy said protesters were hoping to hold a large rally in the capital Wednesday or Thursday, and advised its citizens to keep a low profile.

The United States advised its staff to stay away from O-Zone cafe in October, saying it had evidence a group called "Al Qaeda in the Land of the Two Niles" had threatened U.S. citizens.

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court asked judges in July to issue an arrest warrant for President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, accusing him of orchestrating genocide in Sudan's western Darfur region. The judges are widely expected to decide on his request in coming weeks.

International experts say 200,000 have died since mostly non-Arab rebels in Darfur took up arms against the government in 2003, accusing Khartoum of neglect.

Iran Directly supplying weapons to Sudan

This isn't a surprise.

Why don't we block the Strait of Hormuz to Iranian shipping? International Herald Tribune

Iran and Russia joined China and nine other states as direct weapons suppliers for Sudan after a U.N. embargo was imposed in 2004, a human rights group said in a report published on Tuesday.

China's position as Khartoum's top arms supplier is well known and has long been criticized by human rights activists and Western governments. Other suspected weapons suppliers, such as Iran, are rarely mentioned.

In a report dismissed by Sudan, the New York- and Washington-based activist group Human Rights First said it used public databases to compile data on weapons transfers to Sudan.

That country was hit with a U.N. arms embargo to keep weapons out of its western Darfur region, where Khartoum has been accused of genocide by the United States and the prosecutor for the International Criminal Court.

UN Helicopter Shot at in Darfur

Last month, an advisor to Sudan's president, Omar al-Bashir, said that Sudan would not be able to protect UN troops if Bashir would be indicted for war crimes. So far, the charges against Bashir have not been dropped. On Monday, a UN Helicopter was shot at during a mission. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. Fox News

KHARTOUM, Sudan — A helicopter of the U.N.-African peacekeeping mission in Darfur was shot at during a routine mission and forced to return to its airfield, a spokesman for the force said Monday.

The incident came as special U.S. envoy to Sudan, Richard Williamson, was visiting a different part of the arid, wartorn region, some 300 kilometers away.

UNAMID spokesman Noureddine Mezni said the helicopter came under fire half an hour into its mission, damaging the radio system and the rear of the aircraft, according to an initial inspection.

Sudan Threatens UN Troops

Veiled threats from a murderer BBC

Sudan has again warned it cannot guarantee the safety of UN and African Union peacekeepers in Darfur if its president is indicted for war crimes.

A presidential adviser said that if the International Criminal Court indicted Omar al-Bashir, Sudan could not be held responsible for the troops' well-being.

Earlier this month, the ICC prosecutor asked judges in The Hague to issue an arrest warrant for President Bashir.

China Breaking Arms Embargo in Sudan

A day after the International criminal court charged Sudan's president with genocide China expressed "grave concern". Their concern is so great that they willfully break the UN arms embargo against Sudan. China has also allegedly trained fighter pilots to fly A5 Fantan fighter jets. The arms the Sudan receives from China are used against the people of Darfur. Up to date, at least 300000 people have been murdered in a genocidal jihad.

According to a British Broadcasting Corporation television documentary aired yesterday, the vehicle, produced by one of China's leading auto makers, is powerful evidence that China has been breaking the United Nations arms embargo on military aid and equipment bound for Sudan's embattled Darfur region.

Its markings, captured on film, show the truck was exported by China to Sudan in 2005, after the United Nations banned the transfer of military goods to Darfur.

And, the BBC program alleges, China is also training fighter pilots who fly its A5 Fantan fighter jets in Darfur, where up to 300,000 people have died at the hands of government-backed militias and tens of thousands more have been displaced.
....
The film was aired as the International Criminal Court filed 10 war-crimes charges against Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir, whom the court's prosecutor accuses of masterminding and implementing a plan to destroy three influential Darfur communities "on account of their ethnicity."

"His motives were largely political. His alibi was a `counter-insurgency.' His intent was genocide," said prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo.

"The program is strongly biased," Liu Guijin, China's special envoy for Darfur, told the China Daily. "China's arms sales were very small in scale and never made to nonsovereign entities."

A UN panel of five experts on Darfur, including one Canadian, has said it will examine the BBC's evidence.

The documentary, produced by the BBC's current affairs program Panorama, traces a military truck through the remote deserts of West Darfur, filming it along with a second vehicle. Both trucks had been carrying anti-aircraft guns.

"Markings showed that they were from a batch of 212 Dong Feng army (trucks) that the UN had traced as having arrived in Sudan after the arms embargo was put in place," said correspondent Hilary Andersson on the BBC's website.

A witness to an attack by an anti-aircraft gun in the town of Sirba in West Darfur, told the BBC that it fired directly at a hut, creating "an intense wave of heat (that) instantly sent all the huts around in flames."
