North Korea calls Kim Jong Un 'supreme leader'

Will the new Supreme leader of North Korea Please Stand up...
Oh he already is standing.
Awesome, now their is a new supreme leader for the Norks, I can't wait to see what kind of silliness pours out of his mouth at the first nuclear talks with him.

And now maybe the People Of north Korea can go about their lives without having to act like they are saddened by little Kim Jong Il's death.

Just look at all those tears.

(AP) — North Korea's power brokers declared Kim Jong Un the supreme leader at a massive public memorial for his father Kim Jong Il, cementing the Kim family's hold on power for another generation.
The son, dubbed North Korea's Great Successor, stood with his head bowed and somber in a dark overcoat on a balcony at the Grand People's Study House overlooking Kim Il Sung Square and watched the memorial that doubled as a show of support for his burgeoning role as leader.
The unequivocal public backing for Kim Jong Un at his father's memorial provides a strong signal that government and military officials have unified around him in the wake of Kim Jong Il's death Dec. 17.

Kim Jong Il, North Korea’s ‘Dear Leader,’ dies, leaving son as successor

Not so ronry anymore, but so Dead.
Kimjung Il has finally kicked the bucket and his son will be taking over as the new dear leader.
Watching the news today of Kim's death it was funny seeing the people of North Korea trying to be serious as they cried in front of the cameras, it was hard to tell if they were seriously upset; or seriously ecstatic over his death.

It is hard to believe that his people will miss him.

But now they have his son to look forward too.

Washington Post
Kim Jong Il, the North Korean leader who threatened the world with his nuclear weapons ambitions and suppressed his own people with imprisonment and isolation, left in the wake of his death Saturday an antiquated country with a power vacuum.

Kim’s death raises immediate questions about the future — and the stability — of perhaps the world’s most isolated state, which for six decades has been held together by the Kim family personality cult. Kim was deified by state media, described as the “Dear Leader.” A weeping television anchor Monday told North Korea of Kim’s death.

Security analysts and officials from Seoul to Washington have long believed that Kim’s death would double as a pivot point on the Korean Peninsula. But that poses a threat of its own, as North Korea tries to pass power to Kim’s youngest son, Kim Jong Eun, who is in his 20s.

U.S. To Resume Talks With North Korea

Talks resume, oh boy.
Its been a few months without anything and before that its been even longer, so why not have a little chit chat with the lonely little Kimmie and his minions.

(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. will resume direct talks with North Korea next week in Geneva in the hope that engaging Kim Jong Il’s regime will prevent it from taking hostile actions, including nuclear weapons tests.

A U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity said that while there is no new information suggesting a change of heart by North Korea, the Obama administration has decided that engagement may prevent hostile provocations. The U.S. yesterday announced the appointment of a full-time envoy to oversee the effort to persuade North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons program, with Glyn Davies, ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, succeeding Stephen Bosworth...

“I don’t think we can expect much out of this meeting, but it could be seen as progress if they can at least set agendas for future talks,” said Dong Yong Sueng, a senior fellow at the Samsung Economic Research Institute in Seoul. “This will just serve to help ease tensions and create a more favorable atmosphere.”

US calls for release of citizen 'held in North Korea'

The main Question here, Why was this American in North Korean Territory?

Probably the stupidest move they ever made, and now we have to pay millions of dollars in taxes to help get this Jackass out of the North Korean Hell hole.

Can we prosecute them in the U.S for extreme stupidity?

BBC
The US state department says an American citizen is being held in North Korea, and is calling for the person's release on humanitarian grounds.

No details have been given about the American's identity or the circumstances of the arrest.

The news comes ahead of a scheduled visit to Seoul this weekend by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Efforts to ease tensions on the Korean peninsula are continuing, after two military attacks last year.

The state department is refusing to answer questions about the detained citizen - such as who are they? What were they doing in North Korea? When, where and why were they arrested? - because it says the individual has not signed a privacy waiver.

North Korea to hold rare party meet 'to elect leaders'

So maybe we can get a preview of what is to come for the Norks ?
A prediction More of the same .

BBC
North Korea's ruling communist party is to hold a rare meeting of its political bureau, state media have said.

The session will be held in September to select new leaders to the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the North Korean Central News Agency said.

Analysts say the move may signal a transition of power in the secretive country.

Leader Kim Jong-il is believed to be in ill health and grooming one of his sons, Kim Jong-un, to succeed him.

The meeting is "for electing [the party's] highest leading body reflecting the new requirements of the WPK," the announcement said.

"We are now faced with the sacred revolutionary tasks to develop the WPK... into an eternal glorious party of Kim Il-sung and further increase its militant function and role to glorify the country as a great prosperous and powerful socialist nation."

Is this the next leader for North Korea?

Kim Jong-il with his youngest son, Kim Jong-un.

"Jong-un will be his father's successor. Everyone used to say it. He looked and acted just like him"

Telegraph

On Monday, analysts said Kim Jong-un had taken a step closer to power after his uncle, Jang Song-thaek, was promoted to the North's all-powerful National Defence Commission in anticipation of his role as "regent" to the politically inexperienced 27-year-old.[...]

Some first-hand insight into the character of Kim Jnr has comes from Kenji Fujimoto, a Japanese sushi chef who worked for Kim Jong-il and described the then young Kim as a "chip off the old block" - a calculating young man who always sought to be in control. [...]

"Jong-un will be his father's successor. Everyone used to say it. He looked and acted just like him", the chef wrote, admitting he only dared refer to the young Kim as "Prince".

"When he shook hands with me, he stared at me with a vicious look. I cannot forget the look in the Prince's eyes. It's as if he was thinking: This guy is a despicable Japanese'."

North Korea may be readying missile test: report

Just File this one under " Here we go Again ! "

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea has declared a no-sail zone off its west coast, indicating it may be readying to test-launch missiles in the area, South Korean news broadcaster YTN on Tuesday quoted a military official as saying.

The area is near a contested sea border with the South that was the site of a brief naval clash in November between the states, technically still at war, that left a South Korean ship pockmarked with bullet holes and a North Korean vessel limping back to port in flames.

About a month before that clash, North Korea rattled regional security by firing short-range missiles off its east coast.

"We are closely monitoring the area to inspect whether this announcement was made as a part of their winter training or to launch short-range missiles," the unnamed official told YTN.

South Korean military officials said they were checking on the YTN report.

Destitute North Korea in recent weeks has signaled that it is ready to reduce the security threat it poses to economically vital North Asia by saying it could end its year-long boycott of international nuclear disarmament talks

So seeing as how they would like to get back to talks ( ? ) It's time for them to launch a few missiles ?

Kim Jong Il's secret military bunker found

I bet it looks exactly like his base in Team America.
Telegraph

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il has constructed a military command centre in a hollowed-out mountain close to the Chinese border from where he plans to fight a guerrilla campaign should his nation be invaded or engulfed in civil unrest.

Beneath a lavish palace used by the North Korean supreme leader, the interior of Mount Baekdusan has been excavated and can store helicopters and fighter jets that can take off from a nearby airfield, according to the military analysis experts of the Kanwa Information Centre's Hong Kong bureau.[...]

"We believe this would be the last place that the present regime would retreat to and try to conduct a campaign such as we are presently seeing in Afghanistan," he said.

And if the worst came to the worst, he added, the Chinese border is a short helicopter flight away and Beijing is expected to offer Kim and his closest aides sanctuary.

Critics Say Photos of Kim Jong Il Are Really Of a Look-Alike

Damn Funny if you ask me ! Little Kimmie has stand in's , just like Saddam insane had when he had full control of Iraq !
Even funnier is , if to be true , then Bill Clinton may have been Duped by A Phony Version of the Dear Leader !

....Foxnews
A number of analysts are convinced that photos released of North Korea's leader Kim Jong Il are not really of the dear leader — but rather a strikingly good look-alike.

Observers say the communist country's leader is too sick to make appearances, including August's meeting with former President Bill Clinton, the Christian Science Monitor reports.

Evidence of the resemblance is not verified, but several North Korean refugees report that Kim has several people standing in for him on some of the 122 trips he's made this year, the paper reports.

Ha Tae-young, president of Open Radio for North Korea, cites one recent North Korean defector who claimed he knew a girl whose father was an actor for Kim.

"Recently Kim Jong Il loses fat. He's very skinny these days. The defector says, 'If Kim Jong Il looks skinny, the actor can do the same thing'," Ha said.

The Straits Times
Tokyo - North Korean leader Kim Jong Il's third son, his likely successor, has been appointed as the acting defence chief under his ailing father, a major Japanese newspaper reported yesterday.

Mr Kim Jong Un has started supporting his father as the acting chairman of North Korea's National Defence Commission, the evening edition of the Mainichi Shimbun said, quoting unnamed sources close to the North Korean leadership.

The report came a day after South Korea's best-selling daily, Chosun Ilbo, reported that Mr Kim's health was rapidly worsening and Pyongyang was trying to import expensive medical equipment through China.

Speculation about Kim Jong-il's Health High as he Misses 60th Anniversary of North Korea

Kim Jong-il reportedly failed to show up for North Korea's 60th anniversary military parade. A US intelligence officer speculates that Kim Jong had a stroke in the past two weeks. Some are even speculating that the leader of North Korea is dead.

A couple of weeks ago I read an article stating that Kim Jong-il has been dead for since 2003 and has been replaced by a double. I was saving the article for a slow news day but I figure this is a good time to post it. Japan Today

Is Kim Jong Il dead? Yes, North Korea’s “Dear Leader” is no more, having passed away in the fall of 2003, writes Waseda University professor Toshimitsu Shigemura in Shukan Gendai (Aug 23-30).

A one-time Mainichi Shimbun journalist posted in Seoul, Shigemura is introduced by the magazine as a leading authority on the Korean Peninsula. His latest book, released this month, is titled “The True Character of Kim Jong Il.”
....
Shigemura cites as sources (without naming them) several people close to Kim’s family. He hears from them that Kim’s diabetes took a turn for the worse early in 2000. From then until his supposed death three and a half years later he was confined to a wheelchair.

Was the flurry of diplomatic activity in which the world saw Kim engaged during those years mere sleight of hand? The “hermit kingdom” seemed all of a sudden to grow remarkably outgoing. In June 2000 Kim hosted the historic summit with South Korean President Kim Dae Jung. The following month, he received Russian President Vladimir Putin. In October his guest was U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. In January 2001 he visited China; in August, Russia. In September 2002 there occurred the first summit with Koizumi, culminating in Kim’s admission, after decades of denial from Pyongyang, that North Korean agents had kidnapped Japanese nationals. August 2003 saw the launch of the Six Party talks aimed at North Korea’s nuclear disarmament.

“Then suddenly,” writes Shigemura in Shukan Gendai, “the pace slows.”

The second Kim-Koizumi summit, in 2004, lasted all of 90 minutes. Scheduled meetings with other foreign dignitaries were abruptly canceled. Kim’s retreat from the public eye was almost total. State television in October 2003 showed him touring a collective farm, but mention of the date of the visit was conspicuously absent. Kim’s family, meanwhile, was in a state of upheaval. His wife died—of breast cancer, said official reports; assassinated, according to persistent rumors. His favorite sister, a high-ranking Communist Party official, suddenly moved to Paris. Her husband lost his post. Clearly something was afoot.

In the spring of 2006, says Shigemura, American spy satellites succeeded in photographing Kim. An analysis of the photographs led to an astonishing conclusion: Kim had grown 2.5 cm!
