U.S. consulate employee shoots dead 2 armed men in Pakistan

Police said it was unclear what the intentions were of the two men who approached the employee's white sedan.

Maybe they wanted to have lunch?

I'm sure they did not mean him any harm, that is why they pointed guns at him!

The Los Angeles Times
The shooting, which occurred late in the afternoon at a heavily congested intersection, could spark a backlash here against the United States, which is already seen by many here as a superpower that exploits Pakistan and tramples on its sovereignty. Not long after the incident, angry crowds burned tires outside the Lahore police station where the man was being questioned and shouted anti-American slogans.

An employee of the U.S. consulate in Lahore shot and killed two armed Pakistani men on a motorcycle Thursday in what the employee told police was an act of self-defense after the men approached his car and one of them brandished a pistol, authorities said.

A bystander was also killed when he was struck by another consulate vehicle arriving at the scene, police said.

Police said it was unclear what the intentions were of the two men who approached the employee's white sedan. Aslam Tareen, Lahore's police chief, said in a television interview that the employee told them he was stopped at a traffic light when the two men pulled up along the right side of the car, then drove around to the other side.

One of the men on the motorcycle then pulled out a handgun, Tareen said. The consulate employee pulled out his own handgun and fired at the two men several times. One of the men died at the scene and the other later at a local hospital. Tareen said the second man on the motorcycle also had a pistol, and that both handguns were loaded.

The employee, an American citizen, then called colleagues in a second consulate car nearby, which rushed to the intersection. That second car struck and killed a bystander, Obeid ur-Rehman, Tareen said.

The victims were a 14-year-old boy and two women aged 18 and 47, according to a statement by the prosecutors' office in northern Coahuila state.

The statement said gunmen traveling in two vehicles opened fire on a convoy of federal police and soldiers in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila. The officers and soldiers returned fire.

ABC.News
A combination of SWAT stealth and deadly force resolved a four-hour long hostage standoff at Discovery Channel headquarters, but only after operators thought the hostages were in "grave danger," police said today.

"Any time that police officers use deadly force, it's to save a life... In this situation the hostages -- who were tremendously courageous throughout this incident -- were in grave danger," Montgomery County Police Chief J. Thomas Manger told "Good Morning America."

Manger said that SWAT officers had been able to sneak "very close" to Lee without alerting him, close enough to hear a disconcerting "pop."

"SWAT officers heard a shout, they heard a pop. They were unclear if that was a gunshot or if it was the suspect detonating a device," Manger said. "The officers immediately confronted the suspect. He had a gun out and he was shot at that point."

Somali pirate killed in cargo ship hijack shooting

Nice hearing that at least one of the Somalia pirates got theirs , To bad the Yemeni Navy did not have the balls to do what the Spanish Navy did And stop the Pirates and at least sink their vessels , though I would prefer sinking them loaded with Somali Douchbags !

(Reuters) - A suspected Somali pirate was killed during shooting between pirates and armed guards on board a Panamanian-flagged ship, a maritime official and the EU anti-piracy taskforce said on Wednesday.

The private guards protecting the MV Almezaan returned fire as they beat back two attacks by the same gang off the coast of lawless Somalia on Tuesday.

Somali pirates attacked a Yemeni oil tanker off the Yemen coast on Wednesday, but the Yemeni navy foiled the assault, the defense ministry said.

Navy and coast guard vessels engaged four pirate boats that had surrounded the tanker, which was carrying crude oil to the Yemeni port of Aden, and forced them to flee, a Yemeni Defense Ministry website said.

Marauding sea gangs have attacked ships in the busy lanes in the Gulf of Aden that link Europe and Asia for several years, earning ransoms worth millions of dollars from vessels captured.

In the attack on the MV Almezaan, a patrolling Spanish warship deployed a helicopter that fired warning shots to stop the pirates as they fled the area. Spanish troops seized six individuals, recovered one body and destroyed three pirate vessels.

U.S. Border Patrol agent fires gun at people throwing rocks

What are you supposed to do to people who are throwing rocks at you , and don't stop when you tell them too with some pepper spray ?

Let's hope that they use some common sense with this one .

El Paso Times
EL PASO -- A gunshot was fired by a U.S. Border Patrol agent being attacked with rocks thrown from Mexico, an agency spokesman said Wednesday.

Border Patrol spokesman Doug Mosier said the incident occurred Monday evening when an agent near the Bridge of the Americas called for help because a group of people were throwing rocks from the Mexican side of the border. Another agent fired a pepperball launcher, which shoots projectiles filled with pepper spray. But the rock throwing continued. An agent then fired one round from a handgun at the rock-throwers. There were no known injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the Border Patrol and the FBI. The Mexican Consulate in El Paso was also notified, Mosier said.

Taliban Commander Dies in Mosque Shootout

Another one bites The Dust !

....
KABUL (AP) -- A heavily armed Taliban commander was killed Saturday during an pre-dawn shootout at a mosque in eastern Afghanistan, NATO said as it reported an American service member was killed in a separate attack.

A joint Afghan-international force went to a compound in Wardak province to look for an insurgent believed responsible for planning attacks and buying weapons and parts for making bombs, the international coalition said. When the joint force approached the compound, the Taliban commander, who was armed with grenades and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, ran to a nearby mosque.

Afghan security forces surrounded the mosque outside the town of Pirdad in the Nirkh district and called for him to surrender. When he didn't, they went inside.

''The Taliban commander opened fire with his AK-47 while in the mosque and was killed by the Afghan security force,'' NATO said in a statement.

In the 4 years since Calderon has taken Office 15,000 people have been killed throughout Mexico , 4000 plus just in the Jaurez area !

....
MONTERREY, Mexico (Reuters) - Twelve people were killed in related gun battles in northern Mexico on Friday, one of the highest death tolls from a clash in the country's drug war in recent months.

Shooting broke out when soldiers approached a ranch during an operation near the city of Monterrey, military and local authorities told Reuters. Seven gunmen were killed in the shootout, they said.

Other gunmen, thought to be part of the Zetas drug gang, escaped the ranch and were chased by security forces, leading to another shootout that killed five people, including a bystander.

"So far we have 12 dead confirmed," a police source said. "Eleven were drug gang members and one was a civilian."

Since President Felipe Calderon took office in late 2006, more than 15,000 people have died in the drug war, which is tied to a fight between rival cartels for control of the lucrative trade.

Massive army deployments in cities such as Ciudad Juarez on the U.S. border have failed to quell the violence.

"The attack appeared to be well-planned, with concentrated fire from at least two directions," Anarchists well orgranized? I dunno about that. Times Online

A policeman was shot and seriously injured in Athens early today as protesters sprayed automatic fire at officers guarding the Culture Ministry, prompting fears of renewed anarchist violence.

Diamantis Matzounis, the 21-year-old policeman, was reported to be in a critical but stable condition, with bullet wounds over his whole body from chest to legs. He had been one of three members of a ministry police guard fired on by two attackers using AK-47 assault rifles and at least one 9mm pistol.
