Pakistani Taliban confirm leader is dead:

Well it is finally official , Baitullah mehsud is dead ! continue celebrating !
we just have to wait a little longer to find out what happened at the meeting to elect the new leader , who if anyone was killed .
Great news we already new about !

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistani Taliban militants have for the first time confirmed that their leader, Baitullah Mehsud, has been killed, the BBC reported on Tuesday.

Pakistani and U.S. officials have been saying for days that Mehsud was killed in a U.S. missile strike in his South Waziristan stronghold near the Afghan border on August 5, but the Taliban have been denying it.

The BBC said on its website two Taliban commanders loyal to Mehsud, Hakimullah Mehsud and Wali-ur-Rehman had confirmed that Baitullah Mehsud had been killed.

Pakistan and U.S. officials have been saying the militants appeared to be in disarray since Mehsud's death, with reports of infighting between factions vying to take command.

Analysts saw the Taliban's earlier denials that Mehsud was dead as an attempt to hide divisions over who should take charge of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or Taliban Movement of Pakistan, alliance of militant factions.

Mehsud killed while getting 'leg massage'

So Baitullah was getting a " Massage " when he was Killed !
That was not the happy ending he was looking for !

AFP
WASHINGTON — Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed last week in a CIA drone attack while getting a leg massage on the roof of his father-in-law's house, CNN said Monday, citing an unnamed US official.

A US counterterrorism official told AFP, meanwhile, that "there are strong indications (Mehsud) is dead" following a drone attack.

"No one is expecting him home for dinner tonight," the official said.

US President Barack Obama is being told Mehsud was killed after a "dramatic escalation" of nine unmanned drones specifically targeting the Taliban leader in recent weeks, the US official told CNN television.

On Wednesday night, US surveillance in Pakistan spied a man on the roof of Mehsud's father-in-law's home in South Waziristan.

The description was of a "short, stocky man who was following the physical description" of Mehsud, CNN said, citing the intelligence official.

A woman was massaging the man's leg and the Central Intelligence Agency knew Mehsud had diabetes, experienced pain in his legs, and often sought relief in that way, the report said.

War is deceit. BBC

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan believes Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud, who has a $5 million U.S. bounty on his head, was probably killed with his wife and bodyguards in a missile attack, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Friday.

An intelligence officer in South Waziristan told Reuters that Mehsud's funeral had already taken place, while Pakistani media cited their own security sources saying Mehsud was dead.

"He was killed with his wife and he was buried in Nargosey," the officer said, referring to a tiny settlement about 1 km (half a mile), from the site of the missile attack, believed carried out by a pilotless U.S. drone aircraft.

Malik said: "We suspect he was killed in the missile strike. We have some information, but we don't have material evidence."

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - There is a strong likelihood that Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed along with his wife and bodyguards in a missile attack two days ago, Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik told Reuters.

Suspected U.S. drone kills Pakistan Taliban chief's wife

One of the Hazards of living amongst the Taliban ? The intended target would have been Mehsud himself .

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) - The wife of Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed on Wednesday in a missile strike by a suspected U.S. drone in the South Waziristan tribal region, a relative told Reuters.

It was uncertain whether Mehsud was present when the missiles struck a house belonging to his father-in-law in Makeen, an almost inaccessible village in the heart of Mehsud lands on the Afghan border.

The United States has placed a $5 million reward on the head of Mehsud, an ally of al Qaeda widely regarded in Pakistan as Public Enemy No. 1.

Shortly before 1.00 a.m. (3 p.m. EDT Tuesday), two missiles struck the sprawling, high-walled compound of Ikramuddin Mehsud, a cleric whose daughter, Baitullah Mehsud, got married last November.

A security official in the region said two militants were killed. The relative said Mehsud's wife was also among the dead.

"I confirm that the woman who was killed in the strike was the wife of Baitullah Mehsud," the relative, who did not want to be identified, told Reuters by telephone.

U.S. sees Pakistan securing Swat before attacking Mehsud

I just hope that Pakistan is not backing off on their offensive against Mehsud .

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - U.S. special envoy Richard Holbrooke hailed on Thursday the return home of many of the 2.5 million people displaced by fighting in Pakistan's Swat valley despite pockets of Taliban resistance.

Holbrooke described securing valleys, where the Pakistan army opened up an offensive against the militants more than three months ago, as the first priority.

"I think they've got their hands full in Swat and Buner, Holbrooke told journalists before leaving for Afghanistan at the end of two days of talks with the Pakistani political and military leadership in Islamabad.
Holbrooke said this was the likely reason why the army was delaying an all-out assault further west against the stronghold of Pakistani Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud in the remote South Waziristan tribal region.

US Predator Drone attack missed Baitullah Mehsud by hours

The bell tolls for thee Mehsud. New York Times

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A United States drone strike on a funeral in Pakistan’s tribal areas missed the leader of the Pakistani Taliban, Baitullah Mehsud, by hours on Tuesday, a Pakistani security official said Wednesday.[...]

Mr. Mehsud was not present at the time of the attack, but had gone to pay his respects to a Taliban commander killed in another American drone strike earlier the same day, the official said.

Though the strike on the funeral appeared to have included only two midlevel Taliban leaders among the scores killed, it presented a clear blow to Mr. Mehsud’s operation, showing the deadly proximity of the drone attacks to his areas and even the possibility that he was a target.

U.S. drone strike kills 45 in Pakistan

And this on the heels of a report saying that the U.S will limit Predator Drone Attacks in Pakistan ! I don't agree with limiting the Strikes , I believe they should step it up a few Notches , But as long as the Quality of the Limited strikes are Like this Then , it will be O.K. !

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) - A U.S. drone killed at least 45 Pakistani Taliban militants on Tuesday when it struck after a funeral of an insurgent commander killed earlier in the day, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

U.S. ally Pakistan officially objects to the strikes by pilotless U.S. aircraft though the attack came as the Pakistani army is preparing an offensive against Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud in South Waziristan on the Afghan border.
The next target is Mehsud.

"Three missiles were fired by drones as people were dispersing after offering funeral prayers for Niaz Wali," one intelligence official said referring to a Taliban commander who was one of six militants killed in an earlier drone attack.

The army had no information on the attack on the funeral in the remote area under Mehsud's control, a military official said.

Rival to Taliban commander Mehsud killed

Very nice ! Baitullah Mehsud must be getting a little fed up with things right now , when the Members of the Taliban are being murdered by "Unidentified Gunmen " you know there is some problems in paradise ! This would not be the first case of someone speaking out About Mehsud , Other Taliban "Tribesman" have spoken out about Baitullah recently

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) - An unidentified gunman killed a rival of Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud on Tuesday, police said, dealing a potential blow to a government plan to defeat al Qaeda ally Mehsud.

The murder came as the military prepares an offensive against Mehsud, who has been accused of a string of bomb attacks including the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007.

Separately, a U.S. drone aircraft fired a missile into a Mehsud stronghold in South Waziristan, near the Afghan border, killing six fighters, intelligence officials and a resident said.

The murdered militant commander, known as Qari Zainuddin, had recently spoken out strongly against Mehsud and may have been about to mount a challenge against him. He was killed in the northwestern town of Dera Ismail Khan, police said.

"I confirm that Qari Zainuddin has been shot dead," Salahuddin, superintendent of police in the town, told Reuters.

The gunman, who also wounded another man, escaped, security officials said.

Militants are split into several factions in northwest Pakistan, some of which are rivals

Poor Baitullah , his buddies have agreed to throw him under the Bus when the Time comes ! Things were all good for these jackass's when they weren't being actively pursued by the Military ! now that the heat is on They want to distance themselves from their leader !

Daily Times
PESHAWAR: Ahmedzai Wazir tribes are making last-ditch efforts in a bid to keep a military offensive against Baitullah Mehsud in South Waziristan off their areas, amid shelling in the region, as the Taliban dig tunnels in mountains for protection against bombing, said elders and locals on Tuesday.

“We have been shuttling between the Taliban and the government for three days to reach some sort of an understanding to keep the Taliban from joining Baitullah,” the elders told Daily Times over the telephone from Wana, after talks with the political administration.

The Wazir elders claimed top Taliban leaders had accepted their request to ”remain disengaged with Baitullah” in case the military moved against him, but only if the government met certain demands.

”We cannot say what these demands are,” the elders replied when asked for details. ”What we can tell you is that the military is unwilling to accept the Taliban demands.”

Pakistan orders offensive against Taliban chief

Very awesome ! with lots of luck the Pakistani military will find Baitullah mehsud , with a nice airstrike , or maybe with a few dozen bullets ! either way this is one douche I would love to see Martyred !

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan has ordered the military to carry out an offensive against Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud and his fighters, a provincial governor said on Sunday.

The
announcement came hours after a bomb in a market killed eight people in
a northwest Pakistani town, the latest in a wave of attacks since the
army launched an offensive against Taliban militants in the Swat valley northwest of Islamabad.

Mehsud has been blamed for many of the suicide attacks in Pakistan,
including the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, in
December 2007.

Expectations have
been rising that the military will launch an offensive against him as
the army enters the final stages of its campaign in Swat.

"The
military and law enforcement agencies have been ordered to carry out a
full-fledged operation to eliminate these beasts and killers by using
all resources," Awais Ahmed Ghani, governor of North West Frontier
Province, told reporters, referring to Mehsud.

He
did not say when the offensive would be launched but said Mehsud and
his people had provided shelter to "anti-Pakistan forces," including
many foreigners, and had been training suicide bombers.

ISI Chief friends with Baitullah Mehsud

Good thing Obamam wants to start consulting the Pakistanis before launching any Predator strikes against al Qaida and the taliban. Daily Times

LAHORE: Baitullah Mehsud, the brazen Taliban chief based in Waziristan, has been able to escape several attempts to kill and capture him because he has friends in Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, according to a Newsweek report. An “increasingly-emboldened” Mehsud has claimed credit for several attacks in Pakistan and also threatening to attack the US. "Soon we will launch an attack in Washington that will amaze everyone in the world," he told the Associated Press last week. An unnamed Pakistani official told Newsweek that senior US officials had even shared with their counterparts in Islamabad “some intelligence indicating that renegade ISI elements helped Mehsud's group train for the December 2007 assassination of Pakistan's former prime minister Benazir Bhutto”. But despite that and Pakistan's purported knowledge of his whereabouts, “it's a puzzle why they're ignoring and avoiding any strike against him,” one tribal elder in the region told the magazine. “On several occasions over the past couple of years, security forces in Pakistan have launched operations to kill or capture him, and each time he has vanished without incident,”

“Soon we will launch an attack in Washington that will amaze everyone in the world ... The maximum they can do is martyr me. But we will exact our revenge on them from inside America.”

"Baitullah's brother shot dead"

"five bullets to his head and back". Sounds like an execution.

I wonder if it's a message to Baitullah...."if we can get to your family, we can get to you".

Maybe it's al Qaida's handiwork, perhaps they're upset about all the talk that the taliban is ready renounce al Qaida and OBL? However, if it was al Qaida I think it would be more probable that they would've chopped the guy's head off as per the quran.

Or maybe it's our special forces operating inside Pakistan who offed Baitullah's brother. (Thanks to Kafir Alalazoo)

BANNU - Police recovered the body of Baitullah Mehsud’s younger
brother, Yahya Mehsud, riddled with bullets here in Domail area on Sunday. Some persons informed the police about the body in Nala Kasho area. The police reached there and handed over the body to Mehsuf family after identification.

The family of Baitullah Mehsud shifted the body to Daud Shah but upon the proposal of Baitullah, it was again shifted to South Waziristan for burial. The deceased Yahya Mehsud was the father of two sons and a daughter. AFP adds: Yahya bin Haroon was abducted by armed men from his hometown in Bannu early morning and his bullet-ridden body was later found dumped in a roadside drain, senior police officer Mohammad Alam Shinwari told AFP. He received five bullets to his head and back, the officer said.

Police later identified the slain man as the brother of Mehsud, who leads the country’s umbrella Taliban organisation, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Shinwari said.

The reason for the murder was not immediately clear, he said. Residents said Yahya, 35, was not involved in Taliban activities and people opposed to Mehsud may be involved in the killing of his brother.
