US calls for release of citizen 'held in North Korea'

The main Question here, Why was this American in North Korean Territory?

Probably the stupidest move they ever made, and now we have to pay millions of dollars in taxes to help get this Jackass out of the North Korean Hell hole.

Can we prosecute them in the U.S for extreme stupidity?

BBC
The US state department says an American citizen is being held in North Korea, and is calling for the person's release on humanitarian grounds.

No details have been given about the American's identity or the circumstances of the arrest.

The news comes ahead of a scheduled visit to Seoul this weekend by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Efforts to ease tensions on the Korean peninsula are continuing, after two military attacks last year.

The state department is refusing to answer questions about the detained citizen - such as who are they? What were they doing in North Korea? When, where and why were they arrested? - because it says the individual has not signed a privacy waiver.

China arrests 96 over tainted milk

No executions, Yet.
But 17 life sentences so far.
A big red handed Smackdown on those responsible.

(Reuters) - Chinese police have arrested 96 people for lacing milk powder with the toxic additive melamine, state news agency Xinhua said on Thursday, the same chemical that killed several babies in a milk powder scandal in 2008.

Last July, samples of milk powder found in northwest China's Gansu and Qinghai provinces had levels of melamine up to 500 times the permitted limit, underscoring the lax enforcement of food safety in the country.

Among those arrested, 17 had been convicted, including two people sentenced to life in prison, Xinhua said, citing a statement from the State Council's Food Safety Commission.

Thirty-eight people were awaiting trial, the report said, adding that Chinese authorities had seized 2,132 tons of melamine-tainted milk powder. The remaining 41 were "under investigation in police custody". It did not elaborate further.

Chinese Military Buildup Apparent Ahead of Gates Visit

"But many more experts say they believe the pictures and the aircraft are authentic"

How is this for Authentic?

The Chinese J20 Black Eagle/ Stealth Fighter.

BEIJING—The first clear pictures of what appears to be a Chinese stealth fighter prototype have been published online
, highlighting China's military buildup just days before U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates heads to Bejiing to try to repair defense ties.

The photographs, published on several unofficial Chinese and foreign defense-related websites, appear to show a J-20 prototype making a high-speed taxi test—usually one of the last steps before an aircraft makes its first flight—according to experts on aviation and China's military.

The exact origin of the photographs is unclear, although they appear to have been taken by Chinese enthusiasts from the grounds of or around the Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute in western China, where the J-20 is in development. A few experts have suggested that the pictured aircraft is a mock-up, rather than a functioning prototype of a stealth fighter—so-called because it is designed to evade detection by radar and infrared sensors.

But many more experts say they believe the pictures and the aircraft are authentic, giving the strongest indication yet that Beijing is making faster-than-expected progress in developing a rival to the U.S. F-22—the world's only fully operational stealth fighter.

North Korea says to strike South if drill goes ahead

The North had said its November shelling was a response to South Korean "provocations."

South Korea should just stop all its provocations of the North, That way there wont be Any problem!(sarc off)

(Reuters)
North Korea said on Friday it would strike again at the South if a live-firing drill planned by Seoul on a disputed island went ahead, with an even stronger response than last month's shelling that killed four people.

The announcement on North Korean official news agency KCNA came as South Korea readied for live-firing drills on Yeonpyeong island near a disputed maritime border with the North for the first time since November's exchange of artillery fire.

The South Korean drills will take place between December 18-21.

"The strike will play out a more serious situation than on November 23 in terms of strength and scope of the strike," KCNA said.

The North had said its November shelling was a response to South Korean "provocations."

U.S. Sees Greater N. Korea Nuclear Threat

Yes it is Obvious that North Korea has Big Nuclear ambitions.
Yes it is Obvious that as closed off as North Korea is no one may ever know what they are doing everywhere inside their country.

A new strategy ? Sure that is what is needed, but as the nitwits of the world plan on having some more face time with each other about that, The Norks are still building their secret facilities.

Take your time guys, when you finally get done talking about it, we will be facing a fully Nuclear capable North Korea.

Foxnews
VIENNA—The Obama administration
told the United Nations nuclear watchdog that North Korea likely has built more than one uranium-enrichment facility, significantly raising the proliferation threat posed by the secretive communist state.

U.S. and European officials are pressing the International Atomic Energy Agency to better scrutinize Pyongyang's potential role in sharing its nuclear technologies with third countries. But the U.N. agency's ability to monitor Pyongyang is limited: North Korea kicked out the IAEA's inspectors in 2009.

These additional facilities would allow North Korea to significantly increase its numbers of atomic weapons, as well as their yield.

"It is likely that North Korea had been pursuing an enrichment capability long before the April 2009 date it now claims,".

"If so, there is a clear likelihood that DPRK has built other uranium enrichment-related facilities in its territory."

N. Korea Secretly Built New Nuclear Facility

Hecker described the control room as "astonishingly modern," writing that, unlike other North Korean facilities, it "would fit into any modern American processing facility."

So who dropped the Ball on this one ?

Foxnews
SEOUL, South Korea -- In secret and with remarkable speed, North Korea has built a new, highly sophisticated facility to enrich uranium, according to an American nuclear scientist, raising fears that the North is ramping up its atomic program despite international pressure.

The scientist, Siegfried Hecker, said in a report posted Saturday that he was taken during a recent trip to the North's main Yongbyon atomic complex to a small industrial-scale uranium enrichment facility. It had 2,000 recently completed centrifuges, he said, and the North told him it was producing low-enriched uranium meant for a new reactor. He described his first glimpse of the new centrifuges as "stunning."

Venezuela's Chavez alleges $100 million plot to kill him

Would this surprise anyone if its true.

(Reuters) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez accused a fugitive TV tycoon on Saturday of being involved in a $100 million reward offer for his assassination.

Idolized by supporters among Venezuela's poor but loathed by many in the business class, former soldier Chavez, 56, has frequently alleged plans to kill him during his more than 11 years at the helm of the South American oil-producer.

"As I understand it from very trustworthy information, they say they have $100 million to give the person who kills me," Chavez said, talking of his political foes in general.

He accused the fugitive boss of pro-opposition TV station Globovision, Guillermo Zuloaga, of being one of those behind the plan. Zuloaga fled to the United States earlier this year after being charged with fraud over his car dealership.

China Hackers strike again

It is not so much the fact that once again China has Hacked into the Pentagons websites.
But the fact that this was done back in April.
China does not have the worlds largest super computer for nothing.

Foxnews
Nearly 15 percent of the world's Internet traffic -- including data from the Pentagon, the office of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and other U.S. government websites -- was briefly redirected through computer networks in China last April, according to a congressional commission report obtained by FoxNews.com.

It was not immediately clear whether the incident was deliberate, but the April 18 redirection could have enabled malicious activities and potentially caused an unintended "diversion of data" from many U.S. government, military and commercial websites, the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission states in a 316-page report to Congress.

Activity detected at North Korea nuclear test site

Maybe the Heir to the throne of North Korea is getting his schooling on how to set up and detonate a nuclear Bomb !

(Reuters) - A U.S. satellite has detected increased activity at a North Korean nuclear weapons test site, suggesting it could be preparing for a third test, a South Korean government source was quoted as saying on Thursday.

The report comes after satellite images taken last month also showed heightened activity at the North's main Yongbyon nuclear complex, indicating Pyongyang was pushing ahead with its nuclear plans in defiance of international pressure.

Defense and foreign ministry officials could not confirm the report in the Chosun Ilbo daily about activity at the test site.

North Korea says its wants to rejoin international nuclear disarmament talks after a two-year boycott, which analysts said was an indication it was hurting badly under harsh U.N. sanctions imposed last year in response to its second nuclear test.

Promised economic reforms get under way in communist Cuba; 500,000 state workers to lose jobs

HA HA !

Well there you go , another communist country going bust .

Poor Fidel what is he to do ?

Oh well lay off 500,000 workers yeah that will do the trick .

Just a thought though , do you think that Obama and his Assclowns that subscribe to his socialist views will take notice ? or do you think they will just try to come up with a slightly different tactic to still support Communist/socialist views ?

And what are the Hollywood elite to do about their beloved Comrade and his communist country ? I smell a Fundraiser or a Charity being born !
Foznews
HAVANA – HAVANA (AP) — The big economic changes Cuba's communist leaders have been promising for years appear finally to be happening in earnest — and they will be hard.

Cuba on Monday said it is laying off nearly half a million workers, an eye-popping figure in any country, but especially in a nation where the government so totally dominates the economy.

The shift would mean that one-tenth of the island's 5.1 million-strong work force will be looking for jobs in the private sector by April 2011, a drastic change that could mean a radically altered economic outlook, especially for Cubans in their 20s and 30s who have known nothing but a paternalistic communist system ushered in by Fidel Castro in his 1959 revolution.

North Korea Performing Amputations Without Anesthesia in Dismal Report on Health System

"Five medical assistants held my arms and legs down to keep me from moving. I was in so much pain that I screamed and eventually fainted from pain," said the man, identified only by his family name, Hwang. "I woke up one week later in a hospital bed."

If Things keep going the way they are going , this could be America one day !

North Korea's health care system is in shambles, with doctors sometimes performing barbaric amputations without anesthesia and working by candlelight for payment in cigarettes, in hospitals lacking essential medicine, heat and power, human rights watchdog Amnesty International said Thursday.

North Korea's state health care system has been deteriorating for years amid the country's economic difficulties. Many of its 24 million people reportedly face health problems related to chronic malnutrition, such as tuberculosis and anemia, Amnesty International said in a report on the state of the health care system.

A 24-year-old defector from northeastern Hamkyong province told the human rights organization that a doctor amputated his left leg from the calf down without anesthesia after his ankle was crushed by a moving train when he fell from one of the cars.

"Five medical assistants held my arms and legs down to keep me from moving. I was in so much pain that I screamed and eventually fainted from pain," said the man, identified only by his family name, Hwang. "I woke up one week later in a hospital bed."

North Korea to hold rare party meet 'to elect leaders'

So maybe we can get a preview of what is to come for the Norks ?
A prediction More of the same .

BBC
North Korea's ruling communist party is to hold a rare meeting of its political bureau, state media have said.

The session will be held in September to select new leaders to the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the North Korean Central News Agency said.

Analysts say the move may signal a transition of power in the secretive country.

Leader Kim Jong-il is believed to be in ill health and grooming one of his sons, Kim Jong-un, to succeed him.

The meeting is "for electing [the party's] highest leading body reflecting the new requirements of the WPK," the announcement said.

"We are now faced with the sacred revolutionary tasks to develop the WPK... into an eternal glorious party of Kim Il-sung and further increase its militant function and role to glorify the country as a great prosperous and powerful socialist nation."

North Korean border guard 'shoots three Chinese dead'

Once again North Korea whacks out and offs some people from another country , but this time it is some Chinese citizens .
Not that China really cares , this is a practice that has been in place for a long time !

BBC
China says a North Korean border guard shot and killed three people near the countries' border last week.

A fourth person was reportedly injured in the incident near the north-eastern border town of Dandong.

China has made a formal complaint to North Korea, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry said.

The two countries are considered to be close allies and Beijing rarely makes any public criticism of its isolated neighbour.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang told a regular news conference in Beijing that the four residents of Dandong, in Liaoning province, had been shot "on suspicion of crossing the border for trade activities".

"China attaches great importance to that and has immediately raised a solemn representation with the DPRK," he said, using North Korea's full name (Democratic People's Republic of Korea).

Venezuela punishes 80 firms for power use

Hugo is pretty harsh on his people , it seems to be what Communist Dictatorships always do to their people though , soon they will be standing in lines fighting over scraps of food , all the while the fatass Dicktator will be packing on some pounds and livin large !

(Reuters) - Venezuela announced on Sunday 24-hour power cutoffs for dozens of companies that have failed to reduce usage in the first punitive measures of a nationwide drive to save energy amid an electricity crisis.

Restaurants, liquor stores, hotels, gyms, car dealerships and a yacht club were on the list of 80 firms in the capital Caracas due to have their power cut on Monday for failing to bring consumption down 20 percent, the state utility said.

The local unit of Japanese firm Sony Corp will also be among those sanctioned.

President Hugo Chavez's government has introduced rationing, and demanded power cuts across the South American OPEC member, to cope with an electricity shortage that is jeopardizing Venezuela's ability to pull out of a recession.

Drought has hit the hydroelectric sector that produces more than 70 percent of Venezuela's electricity. Rains are due in weeks, with some showers already starting in recent days, and the government says fears of a "collapse" are unfounded.

The opposition, preparing for a September legislative election being cast as a referendum on Chavez and a curtain-raiser for the 2012 presidential vote, says he is to blame for incompetent management of the power sector.

Polls show Chavez's traditionally high popularity, especially among the poor, is suffering from the power crisis.

The latest survey, by Alfredo Keller and Associates, which is perceived by many to favor the opposition, gave Chavez a 43 percent approval rating, saying it was his lowest since 2003.

Only 26 percent thought the government was taking the right measures in the electricity campaign, according to the poll, made public on Sunday by private TV network Globovision.

North Korea executes official for blunder

A failed attempt to Fix the economy resulted in this mans execution , and he was just doing what he was told to do !

(Reuters) - North Korea has executed a ruling party official blamed for a botched currency reform, in a desperate attempt to quell public unrest and stem negative impact on Pyongyang's power succession, a news report said on Thursday.

The execution by firing squad in Pyongyang last week of Pak Nam-ki, Labour Party chief for planned economy, was for the crime of "a son of a bourgeois conspiring to infiltrate the ranks of revolutionaries to destroy the national economy," South Korea's Yonhap news agency said, quoting sources.

But both North Korean officials and even many in the communist country's public do not believe the explanation that Pak was a conspiring anti-revolutionary, Yonhap quoted sources knowledgeable about the issue as saying.

"The mood is the leadership has made Pak Nam-ki a scapegoat," one source was quoted as saying.

The unrest, triggered by sharp price increases in the marketplace amid confusion caused by the late November currency revaluation, forced the North to take some steps to roll back its effect.

Analysts said that showed the North was under intense pressure to relieve problems that could upset the stability of the leadership.

We can only hope this stirs things up a bit !

Foxnews
First Amendment be damned . . . If Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn had his way, any journalist who called Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez a dictator would quickly find himself behind bars.

Penn, appearing on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" on Friday, defended Chavez during a segment in which he detailed his work with the JP Haitian Relief Organization, which he co-founded.

"Every day, this elected leader is called a dictator here, and we just accept it, and accept it" said Penn, winner of two Best Actor Academy Awards. "And this is mainstream media, who should -- truly, there should be a bar by which one goes to prison for these kinds of lies."

It was just the beginning of a busy weekend for Penn. When asked on CBS' "Sunday Morning" about those who question his motives for his humanitarian work in Haiti, he said:

"Do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer? Yeah. You know, but I'm not going to spend a lot of energy on it."

Two Chinese Schools Said to Be Tied to Online Attacks

So why is it that even under constant Cyber attacks from China ( Along with the many other threats ) Does the United States still insist on dealing with the Communist led Country ?
The whole thought of it is purely Mind Numbing .

The New York Times
SAN FRANCISCO — A series of online attacks on Google and dozens of other American corporations have been traced to computers at two educational institutions in China, including one with close ties to the Chinese military, say people involved in the investigation.

They also said the attacks, aimed at stealing trade secrets and computer codes and capturing e-mail of Chinese human rights activists, may have begun as early as April, months earlier than previously believed. Google announced on Jan. 12 that it and other companies had been subjected to sophisticated attacks that probably came from China.

Computer security experts, including investigators from the National Security Agency, have been working since then to pinpoint the source of the attacks. Until recently, the trail had led only to servers in Taiwan.

If supported by further investigation, the findings raise as many questions as they answer, including the possibility that some of the attacks came from China but not necessarily from the Chinese government, or even from Chinese sources.

Tracing the attacks further back, to an elite Chinese university and a vocational school, is a breakthrough in a difficult task. Evidence acquired by a United States military contractor that faced the same attacks as Google has even led investigators to suspect a link to a specific computer science class, taught by a Ukrainian professor at the vocational school.

China export hubs fear labor exodus over new year

One of the best reasons to Boycott China ,
As if the Constant Cyber attacks and bickering , or an unrelenting flood of tainted products and threatening the U.S. with Economic sanctions because of Taiwan ,aren't enough .
Now there is the extortion of the Chinese people who work in sweatshops making all the products for us that we are no longer allowed to make .

SHENZHEN, China (Reuters) - After six months working long, grinding hours churning out a stream of sports goods on a factory line in southern China, Wang Lili tried to quit her job, only to be rebuffed by her bosses who threatened to fine her instead .

"A lot of people want to quit but they won't allow them to," said the slim, pony-tailed factory girl over a meal in Songgang, where her employer, Leader Sporting, makes skating equipment for top Western brand K2 Skates in the export hinterland of the Pearl River Delta.

"I feel tired all the time. The pressure on us is growing and I can't stand it any longer."

Wang's plight reflects a seemingly growing trend in China's export hubs, of factory bosses scrambling to recruit and retain workers, sometimes illegally, as Western orders for Chinese goods gather pace again, while labor shortages loom.

"The factories are thinking of all kinds of tricks to keep the workers, including withholding wages and imposing fines," said Chen He, another worker at Leader Sporting who is clocking more and more overtime and lives in a grimy dormitory room for twelve people that provides no electrical sockets or lockers.

North Koreans starving after currency move

The currency revaluation was aimed at wiping out the cash holdings of a burgeoning merchant class, who risked exposure for illegal activities outside the centrally planned economy if they exchanged their old cash or deposited their wealth in banks.

Ahhh Communism !
This is what it ultimately leads to .
So we should expect a Missile launch and or Nuclear test any day now !

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Koreans are starving to death and unrest is growing due to a currency revaluation last year that crippled markets and led to the sacking of a senior cadre, reports said on Wednesday.

The news comes as the destitute North is under growing pressure to end its boycott of international nuclear disarmament talks, where it can win aid for reducing the security threat it poses in economically vital North Asia.

Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said after meeting officials in Seoul that North Korea must return to the six-country talks and live up to pledges it made to take apart its nuclear weapons programme.

"Sanctions will not come off before that," he told reporters.

North Korea last year announced a revaluation of its currency where old notes of its won currency would be changed for new ones at a rate of 100 to one.

The move was a further blow to the North's wobbly economy, already hit by U.N. sanctions imposed after its nuclear test last year to halt its lucrative arms sales.

North Korean Workers' Party finance director Pak Nam-gi, who led the currency revaluation aimed at breaking up markets in the socialist state, has been removed from his post, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper said quoting diplomatic sources in Beijing.

"Markets have come to a grinding halt following the currency revaluation and prices have soared," the source said.

After the currency moves, fewer goods were available for an already impoverished public and prices rose sharply.
