Dearborn — The local head of a national Muslim civil rights group says a Christian prayer summit to be held at Ford Field next week promotes anti-Muslim sentiment and is warning local mosques to step up their security.
Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations — Michigan, met Wednesday with Muslim activists to voice his concern over the rhetoric he fears could be at the center of the event Nov. 11.
"There's a bigger force or movement behind this prayer summit and how they're literally demonizing Muslims," he said.
But Metro Detroit pastors involved in the event say the gathering is merely meant to help Detroit, not target Muslims.
"I don't know anything about that," said Bishop Edgar Vann of Second Ebenezer Church. "People are coming here to pray for our city and that's what I'm concerned about. Christians will be praying, but it's open to anyone."

(CNN) -- Two Muslim men were removed from plane headed to North Carolina because passengers were uncomfortable, the Council on American-Islamic Relations said.
The incident occurred Friday on a flight from Tennessee to North Carolina.
Masudur Rahman and Mohamed Zaghloul were wearing the traditional Muslim attire, CNN affiliate WCNC reported.
They were headed to North Carolina for a conference on prejudice against Muslims, according to the affiliate.

A popular new law that bars Oklahoma courts from considering Islamic law, or Shariah, when deciding cases was put on hold Monday after a prominent Muslim in the state won a temporary restraining order in federal court.
Two state legislators were quick to blast the judge's ruling and the Oklahoma attorney general, who they said did not stand up to support the new law.
U.S. District Court Judge Vicki Miles-LeGrange ruled that the measure, which passed by a large margin in last Tuesday's elections, would be suspended until a hearing on Nov. 22, when she will listen to arguments on whether the court's temporary injunction should become permanent.
"Today's ruling is a reminder of the strength of our nation's legal system and the protections it grants to religious minorities," said Muneer Awad, executive director of Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Oklahoma, who filed the suit last Thursday, claiming the law violated his constitutional rights.

Just two days after Oklahoma voters approved a ballot measure banning state courts from considering Islamic or international law when ruling on cases, a local Muslim has filed a federal lawsuit saying the measure is unconstitutional.
The lawsuit against ballot measure, State Question 755 – or better known as "Save Our State" -- seeks a temporary restraining order to block the results of the election from being certified by the state Election Board on Nov. 9. The measure is scheduled to go into effect on Jan. 1.
Oklahoma residents approved the measure with 70 percent of the vote in Tuesday's election.
But Muneer Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Oklahoma who filed the lawsuit, said that the measure is unnecessary because there is no threat of an Islamic takeover of state courts. Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad said today he regrets that a Muslim leader died in Dearborn during a shootout with FBI agents.
But he supports the view of the state Attorney General report released Thursday that said no state laws were broken in the Oct. 28 shooting of Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah in Dearborn.
“The unnatural loss of life under any circumstances is profoundly regrettable and this case is no different,” said Chief Haddad in a statement. “Imam Luqman Abdullah had family, friends, and a religious following who have all been impacted by this event.”
At the same time, he said Abdullah caused his own death. The Dearborn police department interviewed 85 witnesses and FBI agents in their own investigation.
“It is important to note that four out of five of the defendants in the warehouse surrendered without incident and were not injured,” the city of Dearborn said. “It is clear that the decisions made by Imam Luqman Abdullah, when confronted by the arresting authorities on that day, put into action a series of events that ultimately lead to his death. Careful review of the facts have revealed that Imam Luqman Abdullah fired three shots in the direction of agents, which resulted in the death of an FBI K-9 (dog) prior to any agents returning fire.”

The widow of a Detroit imam shot to death by FBI agents said today that she was appalled to learn her husband died from 21 gunshot wounds.
“It’s really hard and it’s really painful for me,” Amina Abdullah, 36, said of the autopsy report detailing the death of Luqman Ameen Abdullah. “I was shocked. I was almost going to faint. I couldn’t eat, and I couldn’t sleep.”
Amina Abdullah was married 10 years to the imam, said her attorney Nabih Ayad. Ayad also said the government is trying to deport her to Tanzania.
“She’s concerned about going back home,” Ayad said.
Amina Abdullah appeared at a news conference this morning in Detroit with U.S. Rep John Conyers, who is calling for an independent investigation into the imam’s Oct. 28 death in a Dearborn warehouse.
Ayad told reporters he would also like a second autopsy done because he is concerned about reports of lacerations to Abdullah’s hands and wonders if an FBI dog bit him before he fired back.
The autopsy report was completed in November, but it was not released until Monday at the request of the Dearborn Police Department, which is investigating the incident.
Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said he filed a Freedom of Information Act request to learn whether there is any FBI video of the incident. Walid said he has a hunch that video exists since agents hand controlled the warehouse as part of its undercover investigation.
Conyers said he asked Attorney General Eric Holder to have the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division look into the Oct. 28 incident.
“All we want is simple fairness,” Conyers said, adding that he is concerned that the autopsy report took so long to be released. “On the surface, someone being shot 21 times raises quite a few questions in the criminal justice system. It also may involve the hate crimes law.”

According to the autopsy report, when an investigator from the Medical Examiner's Office arrived at the scene of the shooting on Oct. 28, the body of Abdullah, 53, was found on the floor of a semi-trailer full of flat-screen TVs with his wrists handcuffed behind his back.
The FBI told the investigator that when "officers arrived, officers asked to see his hands, and they informed him that if he didn't comply, they were going to send a dog in." Agents said they opened fire after Abdullah shot the dog.
Andrew Arena, special agent in charge of the Detroit FBI office, has said agents acted appropriately in the two-year investigation of Abdullah and during the raid. Agents sought to arrest the cleric and 10 other people on suspicion of dealing in stolen goods.

Grand jury seeks CAIR documents
The FBI have issued a grand jury subpoena to the attorney of one of the Muslim Mafia authors. The book alleges that CAIR engaged in criminal activity and uses over 10,000 pages of CAIR documents to back up their claims.
Last month CAIR was successful in gaining a temporary restraining ordering the authors of Muslim Mafia to return the documents. However, before the authors could comply with the court order the FBI issued a grand jury subpoena seeking those very same documents. Heh.
Looks like CAIR is going to be in a lot of trouble in the near future.

A federal judge has taken the rare step of ordering self-described anti-terrorism investigator Paul David Gaubatz to remove from his Web site some of the 12,000 documents that his son allegedly stole from the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly also ordered Gaubatz to return documents used in his book, "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Seeking to Islamize America," which was co-authored by Paul Sperry and portrays the council as a subversive organization that's allied with international terrorists.

DETROIT — A mosque on Friday dismissed as "utterly preposterous" the FBI's allegations that its murdered leader was part of a radical Islamic group.
Luqman Ameen Abdullah, the imam or prayer leader of Masjid Al-Haqq in Detroit, was a "recognized and respected member of numerous mainstream Muslim organizations and leadership bodies," the mosque said.
Maybe we should be looking at more Mainstream Muslim Organizations then ?
"The slanderous allegations of his being a national leader of a radical Islamic sect is utterly preposterous. ... These allegations are contrary to what we as a community stand for," the mosque said.
The statement was read by an assistant prayer leader, Mikail Stewart Sandiq, as many members milled outside the mosque after Friday prayers. He declined to answer questions.

Abdullah's son, Omar Regan, 34, of Los Angeles said he helped prepare the body for a funeral Saturday. He said his father was shot multiple times, and called the killing "barbaric."

"What's done is done," Regan said, standing across the street from the mosque. "He knew he was wronged. If God calls you home, you can't help but answer."

In Washington, a group called the American Muslim Taskforce on Civil Rights and Elections called for an independent investigation of Abdullah's death.
The group is an umbrella organization whose members include the American Muslim Alliance, American Muslims for Palestine and Council on American-Islamic Relations.

House Republicans Ask for Inquiry Into Whether Muslim Group CAIR Is 'Security Threat'

Four House Republicans formally requested an investigation into the Council on American Islamic Relations this week after charging that the nation's largest Muslim advocacy group tried to "infiltrate" Capitol Hill with interns.
The lawmakers based most of their claims on an internal memo and the book "Muslim Mafia," which describes CAIR's purported strategy to influence members of Congress on the Judiciary, Intelligence and Homeland Security Committees. They raised concerns about CAIR in large part because the Justice Department named the group as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorism case.
In a letter to Sergeant-At-Arms Wilson Livingood, the lawmakers urged him to review the group's alleged ties to Hamas and "determine if CAIR is a security threat." They also asked that he determine whether the group was successful in placing interns on key House panels.
"If you find that CAIR is a security threat, we ask that you take the appropriate security measures," they wrote.
The Intelligence Committee does not accept interns, and the Homeland Security and Judiciary Committees select candidates on a case-by-case basis with no preferential treatment given to any group, congressional aides told Foxnews.com.
The Homeland Security Committee, which was made permanent only four years ago, has not had any interns sponsored by CAIR in at least three years, an aide to the panel said, adding that he could not confirm whether a CAIR intern had ever assisted the panel. It's also not clear whether any candidates sponsored by CAIR applied during that period, the aide said.
The Judiciary Committee has not had any CAIR interns since May, an aide said.
Reps. Sue Myrick of North Carolina, Trent Franks of Arizona, Paul Broun of Georgia and John Shadegg of Arizona raised serious concerns about the group and wrote to Attorney General Eric Holder urging him to provide Congress with a summary of why the group was named as a co-conspirator.
But other lawmakers have rushed to the organization's defense. A CAIR spokesman accused the Republican representatives of being "Muslim bashers" by trying to exclude Muslims from the political process.

"We will develop national initiatives such as a lobby day and placing Muslim interns in Congressional offices," the memo read.
Earlier this year the FBI severed its once-close ties with CAIR as evidence mounted of the group's links to a support network for Hamas, which the U.S. has designated a terrorist organization.
"It's frightening to think that an organization with clear-cut ties to terrorism could have a hand in influencing policy -- especially national security policy -- within our government," Myrick said. "The investigations that we're asking for are simple, and I'm hopeful that they will bring to light any and all information regarding the goals of CAIR."
Franks called on CAIR to renounce its ties to terrorist groups and state publicly that it does not support Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood.

North American Islamic groups remain disturbingly silent on crisis in Iran

Now that the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned ordinary Iranians not to stage street protests, the risks these demonstrators face at the hands of the state security machinery and the Islamist Basiji militia, cannot be underestimated. However, as the courageous Iranian people defy state oppression to demand democracy and freedom, the Islamic organizations of North America have been conspicuous by their silence.
There has been not one word of support for the Iranian people from CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), ISNA (Islamic Society of North America), MSA (Muslim Society of America) and MPAC (Muslim Public Affairs Council).
The only exception has been the Muslim Canadian Congress (MCC) that issued an early statement denouncing the rigging of the elections and demanded that so-called supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei step down.
Why then is CAIR silent about the peaceful Iranian demonstrators? Could this silence reflect a fondness for the Iranian regime and its misogynist and homophobic dictatorial leadership led by president Ahmedinejad?
After all, just last September, according to the magazine Family Security Matters (FSM), CAIR co-founder and Executive Director Nihad Awad participated in an interfaith program attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.
The question about this silence is legitimate since there are hardly any developments in the Muslim world that do not trigger a reaction from organizations like CAIR, ISNA or MAS.
