Pope Benedict XVI has meet with a group of Iranian scholars to discuss tensions between Christians and muslims. After the meeting they released a statement that said "neither reason nor faith should be used for violence; unfortunately, both of them have been sometimes misused to perpetrate violence," and then went on to say that no religion should be judged on a single passage in their holy books.
Fair enough, but how many violent passages and examples does it take to see that one religion advocates violence? Passages that call on believers to strike unbelievers' necks, subjugate unbelievers as second class citizens, call other faiths the descendents of apes and pigs. Fox News
VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI met Wednesday with a group of Islamic scholars from Iran following their talks with a Catholic delegation on issues apparently related to recent tensions between Muslims and Christians.
The Vatican said the pope received the Iranians after his weekly public audience, describing Benedict as "particularly satisfied" with the theme of the meeting.
It examined faith and reason in Christianity and Islam. The joint communique did not mention a speech by the pope in Germany in 2006, when he appeared to associate Islam with violence and irrationality. But the issue of violence was raised.
