Pakistan Admits ISI Infested with Taliban

Update: The BBC has replaced the original link with another story about the ISI denying any links to the Kabul bombing. However, you may go to CBS to read the same story.

Pakistan has finally admitted the obvious. That the ISI is infested with taliban spies/sympathsizers. Afghanistan has been complaining for years that the ISI has been helping the taliban with training and providing information. In recent months even the US has increased pressure on Pakistan to admit that it has a problem.

A couple of months ago, Pakistani security forces were killed by a US airstrike after they and taliban terrorists attacked a FOB in Afghanistan. About a month ago, the CIA confronted the Pakistani government about the ISI's problem with taliban spies/sympathisers within it's ranks. Just the other day, the US accused the ISI of bombing the Indian consulate in Kabul.

Now that Pakistan has admitted they have a problem, they must now try to tackle it. Easier said then done. The ISI and the taliban have deep ties that go back to the taliban's creation. In fact, many say that the taliban were created by the ISI. It will be interesting to see what the Pakistani government will do in next several weeks.BBC

Pakistan's government has said it needs to purge Taleban sympathisers from within the ranks of the country's intelligence service - the ISI.

The statement comes amid claims from the US and India of links between the ISI and Islamic extremists.

Analysts say it is the first time that the Pakistan government has made such an admission.
....
US officials have claimed that spies in the ISI helped plan the recent suicide attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul.

Pakistani government spokeswoman Sherry Rehman said "individuals" in the ISI were probably acting on their own and going against official policy.

She said Pakistan needed to "identify these people and weed them out".

As far as I know this is the first time that Muslims have said something vaguely truthful.

Kyros,
I haven't yet gotten around to looking up material on Iran-Mullahcracy/Taliban connection; but I have not forgotten.
