Educating the Public about Islam and Muslims
The Muslims who work with WhyIslam doing three things:
1. Presenting correct information about Islam.
2. Building bridges with people of other faiths.
3. Promoting greater understanding with all and exploring opportunities for further discussions and exchange of ideas.
This is a great effort to reach out and promote understanding and tolerance. It's clear to me that Islam, the religion of approximately 7 million Americans, promotes peace, prayer, humility as well as social, communal and family values. WhyIslam is sponsored by the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) which is one of the largest, non-profit, independent, grass roots organizations of Muslim Americans which focuses on Education, Outreach, Social Services and Youth programming. I think it's great that there are Muslims willing to share their faith and educate people about their beliefs. Through education we can help to alleviate the Islamophobia that is so prevalent in the discussions about Islam and Muslims today. Islamophobia is an irrational fear of Islam and Muslims that is built upon fear and ignorance. Once it is realized that Muslims are not "the other" and that they are productive, educated and patriotic members of American society we can begin the healing process and move towards an America like the one the founding fathers envisioned; One that includes tolerance, respect and understanding for all faith groups.
Once muslims stop blowing themselves up and killing people in the name of allah 'islamophobia' will disappear. There is no 'irrational' fear of islam, instead it is the other way around. islam fears and abhors anything that is different.
You talk about building bridges but that is all you offer. You offer no concrete examples why all the terrorists are wrong when they justify violence with the qu'ran or the actions of muhammed.
muslims "insist" that we understand and tolerate everything that is islam,all the way to the point of threatening with terrorism,being belligerent is the only thing muslims Know how to do well !
It is not us that needs to understand anything ,9/11 and many other terrorist attacks around the world explained all we need to know!
It is those of the islamic faith that need to understand ,and tolerate us !
