Khadr Family Launches PR Campaign

The remaining members of the Khadr family, the ones who haven't been killed or arrested, have launched a PR campaign to erase their image as Canada's First Family of Terrorism. That's a pretty tall order considering Ahmed Said Khadr, the father of the family, was friends with Osama bin Laden. Ahmed was killed in a firefight with Pakistani forces which also left his youngest son, Abdulkareem, paralyzed from the waist down.

The eldest son, Abdullah, sold weapons to al Qaida and is currently in Canadian prison waiting for extradition to the US. The most famous of the family would be Omar Khadr who killed Sergeant First Class Christopher Speers when Omar threw a grenade and critically injured Speers.Toronto Star

WASHINGTON– The notorious Khadr family has launched their own public relations campaign in an effort to quash their reputation as "Canada's First Family of Terrorism" and put the case of Guantanamo detainee Omar Khadr on the federal election agenda.

The move was condemned by Khadr's U.S. military lawyers, who are trying to maintain distance between Khadr's views and those of his family.

TheKhadrLegacy.com went online yesterday as a press release quoting Khadr's sister Zaynab was emailed to reporters.

"Our brother is being held in Guantanamo Bay based on the lies told by both the American and Canadian governments," she stated. "(An) election is the perfect opportunity to tell those politicians that we are not going to be their bogeyman any longer."
Oh and the sister Zaynab? OBL attended her wedding. These guys have nothing to do with terrorism. Yeah.....Right.

The medic, Sgt. Christopher Speer, never even entered the same building as Omar; the two of them never laid eyes on each other. While you can argue and hold what opinions you like, please do not misrepresent facts - Omar isn't even accused of trying to kill Speer "while he was trying to treat him" - he's accused of having been the unseen person who threw a grenade over a wall after a six-hour bombing and firefight, that wounded Speer; Speer's family later chose to take him off life support.

One doesn't need to have to look into another one's eye to be able to kill the other.

Omar Khadr was the only terrorist survivor from the firefight so it would've been tough for his dead comrades to have thrown a grenade.

I'll leave you with quote

"My lasting image of Omar is of him crouched in the rubble waiting for U. S. troops to get close enough so he could take one of them out, and he did that successfully" Sgt. Morris

Sgt. Morris, if you read the reports of the firefight, wasn't even in the city by the time the Special Forces entered the house/compound. He had been flown away by helicopter 4 hours earlier -- but his rhetoric is self-serving, it earned him a $100 million lawsuit in a civil court by telling his imagined series of events.

And no, I'm not saying Khadr is innocent -- but I am saying that you are lying to your readers and to yourself, if you claim that nobody else was alive in the compound at the time (one older man was, he was shot AFTER the grenade was thrown), or that Omar killed a medic trying to treat him.

Curse Khadr all you want, but do it with honesty -- isn't the TRUTH of the story enough to condemn him? Why weaken your case with lies?

The medic was trying to enter the compound to try to treat any al Qaida survivors. Then Sergeant First Class Christopher was hit by the grenade.

Every report that I have read/heard stated that Omar Khadr was the only one alive when the grenade was thrown.

If you can forward me the report you reference I would be more than happy to post and inform everyone of the events.

http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/OC-1_CITF_witness_report is the actual report itself.

The "medic", was not a medic at all - but a Special Forces soldier with medical training; by law, medics aren't allowed to carry firearms into battle and must display medic insignia - Speer didn't meet either criteria, he was a Special Forces soldier who entered the house/compound along with four others - with absolutely no intention of "medical treatment", they entered it as soldiers, shooting both survivors they found - even though both survivors were unarmed at the time (the older man had been firing a rifle, was shot, started to twitch around on the ground, and was then approached and shot dead).

Like I said, I'm hardly defending the Khadrs - I just think it's important to mention the honest facts of the case.

From the report you cited, it clearly states that Khadr threw the grenade which critically wounded Speers. Speers died because of those wounds he sustained in combat.

In the future I will only state that Omar Khadr killed Speers by throwing a grenade.
