Former Muslim College director pleads not guilty to stealing

A former acting director of a southern suburb Muslim college will stand trial accused of stealing more than $350,000 in federal funding and sending it to Pakistan.

Zubair Sayed, 31, of Sarah Close, Canning Vale, pleaded not guilty, in the Perth District Court today, to stealing as a director.

He will reappear in the District Court on Friday, October 31 for a trial listing.

It is alleged that as the acting director of Muslim Ladies College, in Kenwick, Mr Sayed stole a total of $355,934 on April 16 last year.[...]

he school was closed late last year following an inquiry by the Department of Education which found the school had employed unregistered teachers who spent too much time on religious studies instead of following the WA curriculum.
