SHANGUS (Kashmir): Amid mounting tensions with Pakistan following the Mumbai attacks that left 174 people dead, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on
Sunday said New Delhi wants "normalised" relations with Pakistan but made it clear that the normalisation won't take place until Islamabad stops providing safe haven for terrorists.

"I hope relations between the neighbours can be normalised but this cannot happen until our neighbour stops allowing its territory to be used for acts of terrorism against India," he said, while addressing an election rally at Shangus in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Singh, who travelled to the Valley after a breakfast meeting with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in New Delhi, said, "There are some people in Pakistan who are always ready to carry out such attacks against our country." He said India's silence shouldn't be misconstrued as a sign of weakness and resolved to continue the fight against terrorism.

The PM, who arrived in Kashmir amid unprecedented security arrangements with thousands of soldiers using barbed wire and metal barricades to seal off all approach roads to Shangus, reiterated India's resolve to settle all issues with Pakistan including J&K. He, however, maintained that there would be no redrawing of borders. "We can't change the borders but lessen restrictions on travel between the two countries," he said. "More links with
Pakistan would be opened for greater people-to-people contact and to improve trade relations."

Singh promised, to a thunderous applause, that if Congress comes to power in J&K, the idea of greater autonomy could be discussed. There were chants of "Singh is king" and "Congress will win" - from Congress supporters. He complimented Kashmiris for coming out in large numbers to vote in the first five phases of polling. "This shows your faith in democracy," he said.

Srinagar looked deserted as hundreds of troops patrolled the streets, erected barricades and restricted people's movement to discourage protests against the Prime Minister's visit. "We had imposed restrictions on the movement of people to prevent law and order problems," Kashmir range IG S Srinivas said.

Let's be clear here that pakistan is a "terrorist state" and never have any illusion that it is going to be any different. We have made a grave blunder by suggesting in the international fora that "Pakistan is also a victim of terror." We should stop interviewing leaders from that country who mouth the same inanities that "you have not produced any proof."Let us not fall into the trap of providing proof to the culprits. More than 100 acts/attempts of terror recorded in the world since 9/11 have had their roots in Pakistan. More than 40% of the prisoners in Guantanamo are Pakistanis.

We should categorically, unambiguously, unequivocally boycott Pakistan in all aspects for a decade or more. Pakistan is the only territory in the world where an army has a whole country under its control. The state policy of Pakistan is terrorism and their single-point programme of existence is to destroy India.

Well put , I have always felt that there might be a chance that Pakistan would pull it's head out of its ass ! but lately realize that they wont , because they truly live and breath terrorism and hate !
