SLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- A suicide car bomb apparently targeting voters killed at least 37 people and wounded 16 others in the Bunair district of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province Sunday, a police official said.

A police officer was among the dead, a doctor said.

Pakistani Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said his group claims responsibility.
