KABUL, Afghanistan - ISAF forces, together with Afghan National Security Forces, killed a significant insurgent commander on January 07 in the Baluchi Valley.
This joint operation resulted in the death of Mullah Abdul Rasheed, a senior insurgent commander responsible for the deaths of several ISAF soldiers in recent months. ISAF ground forces conducted the strike on Mullah Abdul Rasheed during a recent operation in Oruzsgan Province.
Rasheed was involved with the importation of foreign fighters, IED experts and potential suicide bombers. He had been identified as a primary IED facilitator, responsible for coordinating IED emplacement in Oruzgan Province.
Following receipt of positive identification and all necessary approvals, ISAF executed a precision air strike against Rasheed.
