Reduction in number of ships hijacked by pirates

There were over 100 pirate hijackings off the coast of Somalia in 2008. But in the month of December there were only 2 hijackings off the coast. BBC

There has been a sharp reduction in the number of ships seized by pirates off Somalia in December, the International Maritime Bureau says.

Despite a large number of attacks, only two ships were hijacked last month, the bureau's director told the BBC.[...]

"There have been many attempted attacks but there were only two vessels which were hijacked in December," Capt Pottengal Mukundan, the director of the International Maritime Bureau (IMB), told the BBC.

That's what happens when you defend yourself or have someone help defend you ! It is hard to take a ship with an AK-47 or an RPG , when you are staring down the barrel of much bigger gun !
