Taliban registering to vote

This is why it is important to actually defeat the jihadists before you can implement any sort of democracy there. Otherwise, they'll just vote in more jihadists. Canada.com

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Taliban insurgents in southern Afghanistan have registered in some districts for the upcoming presidential election, Kandahar Province's head of elections says.

At a press conference this week, Abdul Kahir Wasifi said Taliban are beginning to resister for the vote, but did not provide further details. On Friday, election officials in other parts of the province said they witnessed fighters, whose leadership has publicly scorned the political process, coming to register.

"Taliban are coming in large numbers, waiting in the queue, waiting for terms to register their name to get cards," said one man who works at the registration centre in Spin Boldak, a border town southeast of Kandahar City.
