Russia denies delivery of S-300 missiles to Iran

Russia says that it has not delivered any S-300 air-defense systems to Iran yet. However, Russia has not ruled out shipping the S-300s to Iran. Both the US and Israel have strongly opposed the sale of Russian S-300 to Iran because the S-300 could seriously hamper any air-strikes against Iran's nuke facilities.

Now here is the scary part...Apparently the Obama administration would give up the missile defense shield in Eastern Europe if Russia limits its military ties to Iran, ie not sell the S-300 to the Iranians.

This deal will only work if Iran's nuke program is destroyed. If The US and Russia agree to this deal but Iran is allowed to build nukes than Europe would be defenseless against Iranian nukes and that deal with the Russians becomes mute. AFP

MOSCOW (AFP) — Russia will decide whether to deliver sophisticated S-300 air defence systems to Iran based on the "international situation," a government source here was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

"The further implementation of the contract depends in large part on the developing international situation and the decision of the country's leaders," said the source in the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, which oversees Russian arms sales, quoted by Interfax and RIA-Novosti.

"The S-300 systems have not yet been delivered within the framework of the contract concluded two years ago," the source said.[...]

"It's clear the United States is preparing a deal, suggesting to Russia that it renounce arms cooperation with Iran or limit it, in exchange for abandoning the missile defence shield in Europe," said Pukhov, who works at the Moscow-based Centre for Strategies and Technologies.
