Computer keeps rebooting non-strop

This is so freaking annoying! For no apparent reason my desktop will just reboot on its own. Doesn't matter what I'm doing at the time, surfing the intrawebz, plyaing video games or just starring at the desktop.

I did a number of trouble shooting tips like:

  • cleaned out the dust inside the tower.
  • checked the psu with a multimeter and electricity is running through it just fine.
  • checked the RAM and they seem fine.
  • performed a chkdsk /r and the scan found no problems except for a couple of bad sectors
  • I even took out the video card and that did nothing.

So what else could the problem be? I'm at my wits end and I'm hoping maybe someone out there might know what the problem is. Could it be a virus? Or do I need a new mobo?

Kyros , if you can boot it in safe mode , See if you can scan with A/V , and Spyware ! see what it comes up with ! it could also possibly be a bad driver / software

There is a virus that causes your PC to reboot , Something with the Time , start in safe mode try to disable auto start up , then run a scan in normal and safe mode ! the virus wants to keep the A/V from running so it shuts down and reboots ?

Yeah, I've tried safe mode before. Sometimes my computer doesn't even make it before the option before it reboots again.

Thats why I though it might be the psu but thats fine.

I just took out the HD and ran a virus check on it with my other comp. It found 2 suspicious files, thats it.

I'm beginning to think it might be the mobo.
