Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela, has systemically shut down any media opposition to his dictatorship. In 2006 Chavez announce that he will not renew the broadcasting license of RCTV, a major TV station that was vocal about it's opposition to Chavev's policies. Back in August of this year Chavez shut down 34 radio stations in an effort to stifle free speech and political opposition.
Think this can't happen in the US?
