Democrats ram through bill to allow transfer of Gitmo terrorists to US soil.

Well, the MSNBC headline actually reads this: Republicans fail to block transfer of detainees

Coming to a prison near you soon - Khalid Sheikh Mohammed ---->

"Handing President Barack Obama a partial victory in his effort to close the Guantanamo Bay prison, House Democrats on Thursday repelled a Republican effort to block transfer of any of the detainees to the U.S.

Instead, by a 224-193 vote, the House stood by a Democratic plan to allow suspected enemy combatants held at the controversial facility in Cuba to be shipped to U.S. soil — but only to be prosecuted for their suspected crimes.

The Guantanamo restrictions were attached by House-Senate negotiators on a $42.8 billion homeland security appropriations bill. The measure subsequently passed by a 307-114 vote."

(These people could give a rip about our national security.)

Where will the detainees go? The Standish, MI city council is to vote today at 6 pm EST on a resolution in support of putting the detainees at the Maximum Correction Facility in their town:

The Standish City Council will consider a resolution supporting the transfer of federal detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the Standish Maximum Correctional Facility at 6 p.m. Thursday, Standish City Hall, 399 E. Beaver. The resolution was originally set to be discussed during a special meeting on Oct. 7, but the meeting had to be cancelled because not enough council members were able to attend.

And, while the decision of where the Guantanamo detainees will ultimately be transfered is up to the federal government, Congressman Bart Stupak, D-Menominee, said documented local and state support would be helpful in showing a willingness to house detainees at Standish Max.

The townspeople are rallying in opposition.

I wish them luck - all I can think of is Beslan...

"Attacks on prisons by al Qaeda to release their fellow jihadists are too numerous to list here. What do you think they were doing at that school in Beslan? Beslan had been used by Ossetian militia (Christian) as an internment camp for Ingush civilians (Sunni Muslims) during the 1992 Ossetian-Ingush conflict, and it was chosen as a target because of this connection."
