Noor Almaleki: Dad finally arraigned in honor killing. Pleads 'not guilty'.

From Arizona Central.com:

Almaleki was arraigned in Maricopa County Superior Court Monday morning. He previously missed two scheduled arraignment hearings because he was under suicide watch in a county jail.

Prosecutors have labeled Noor Almaleki's death an "honor killing," saying the elder Almaleki killed his daughter because she dishonored the family by not following traditional Iraqi or Muslim values.

Almaleki has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault for the attack on his daughter and Amal Edan Khalaf, 43. Prosecutors are now expected to roll out a harsher set of charges for Almaleki.

None of Noor's family members attended the hearing.

He was charged with assault, but after his daughter's death, prosecutors filed additional charges. Almaleki plead not guilty Monday morning. At his video taped arraignment on Monday, none of his family members showed up.
