The Beast of Kandahar...America's stealth drone

The US Airforce has confirmed that it has a stealth drone operating in Southern Afghanistan. Last week a French blog posted a photo of the stealth drone, dubbed the Beast of Kandahar or officially known as the RQ-170 Sentinel. The Beast of Kandahar is flown by the 30th Reconnaissance Squadron at Tonopah Test Range, Nev.

The released photo lead to speculation why would the USAF have a stealth drone in Afghanistan. The taliban or al Qaeda have no radar to detect normal aircraft let alone stealth aircraft. So why use a stealth drone in Southern Afghanistan which borders Pakistan and Iran. Hmmmmm...

From Yahoo! News

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The US Air Force on Tuesday confirmed for the first time that it is flying a stealth unmanned aircraft known as the "Beast of Kandahar," a drone spotted in photos and shrouded in secrecy.

The RQ-170 Sentinel is being developed by Lockheed Martin and is designed "to provide reconnaissance and surveillance support to forward deployed combat forces," the air force said in a brief statement.

yes that's true but if they're using the Beast of Kandahar against the taliban then it's a waste of the stealth tech

The war there has always been an extension of the cold war, with the west trying to make sure that Russia does not get themselves a warm water port....

Lets not forget that just because the "enemy" doesn't have radar doesn't mean there aren't other radars operating in the area.

Having this type of aircraft allows the US to test the aircraft against other emitters in a wartime atmosphere.

Also, don't let shape fool you. The platform can also be used for Electronic Warfare. A stealth platform used for EW is the future of reconnaissance.
