Dad arraigned in fire pit death

The Lenox Township man charged with felony child abuse in the death of his daughter in a fire pit accident was arraigned Monday in Macomb County Circuit Court.

A preliminary hearing for Majd Mohammad Al-Shara, 41, was set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 30 in Judge David Viviano's courtroom. Al-Shara's bond was continued at 10% of $10,000; he remains in the Macomb County Jail. He also has immigration proceedings pending.

Aliaa Al-Shara, 6, died after she suffered burns over most of her body in the Sept. 19 accident. Al-Shara said that as he tried to re-light wood by pouring gasoline out of a canister, flames shot out and burned Aliaa as she sat nearby.
