The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood's Justice and Peace party won 40 percent of the vote in Egypt's elections, according to Arab media reports of the results published on Saturday.
With 20% of the vote, the Salafist party al-Nour took the second-highest number of votes, al-Quds al-Arabi and al-Hayat reported. Al-Quds al-Arabi reported that liberal parties took 15% of the vote. The Jerusalem Post could not independently verify the reports...
The Muslim Brotherhood, banned but semi-tolerated under Mubarak, says its FJP expects to win 43 percent of party list votes in the first stage, building on the Islamist group's decades of grassroots social and religious work.
But the Brotherhood's website also forecast that the Salafi al-Nour party would gain 30 percent of the vote, a shock for some Egyptians, especially minority Christian Copts, who fear it will try to impose strict Islamic codes on society.

Two suspects in the killing of Italian citizen Vittorio Arrigoni in Gaza have died during a siege by Hamas police, officials say.
A third suspect was injured and three of the suspects' associates were captured during the operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp, in central Gaza.
One of the two dead men may have committed suicide.
Mr Arrigoni, 36, was abducted last Thursday by Salafists and then hanged.
Hamas sealed off parts of the Gaza Strip before Tuesday's operation during which heavy gunfire and at least one explosion were heard.

Radical Islamic terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip distanced themselves from the kidnapping and murder of Italian activist Vittorio Arrigoni, who was found dead early Friday morning in the Strip.
Among the groups who disclaimed the attack was Tawhid wal-Jihad, the al-Qaida-linked group that had initially said it was holding the Italian national and conditioned said they would only release him if their own leader, recently arrested by Hamas, was released, Gaza-based newspaper Palestine Today reported.

Police said he was found hanged in a Gaza City house after receiving a tip-off. Two people have been arrested.
