Faced with Gitmo detainees in their backyard, is Standish MI getting cold feet?

Yesterday, after the Democrats rammed legislation through the House allowing the transfer of Gitmo detainees terrorist to the US, one of the sites under consideration to said scumbag detainees terrorists, Standish MI, was to hold a city council hearing to pass a resolution of support for the idea.

The vote was postponed - for the second time.

The Standish City Council has postponed action on a resolution expressing interest in a proposal to house Guantanamo Bay prisoners in the northern Michigan community.

A soon-to-close state prison in Standish has been mentioned as one possible site for prisoners from the U.S. base in Cuba. Standish is about 120 miles north-northwest of Detroit.

President Barack Obama has promised to close the Guantanamo Bay lockup. Officials say Fort Leavenworth, Kan., also has been considered as a destination for about 150 of the detainees.

The city council put off action Thursday on a resolution expressing interest in housing the detainees at the Standish Maximum Correctional Facility. The commission for surrounding Arenac County has endorsed the idea.

The good news. It sounds like the lengthy public comment offered by opponents to the plan put the kibosh on the vote. The bad news - it has only been tabled until next month.
