Thanks to savvy tipster Aunty Dhimmi (thank you again, my dear) we've been following the proposed Lilburn mosque expansion in GA. (See here and here.)
Lilburn mosque expansion plan defeated.
<-- Proposed mosque includes a Muslims Only cemetery.
A controversial proposal to expand a Lilburn mosque was defeated Wednesday night in Gwinnett County, but members of the mosque say their fight isn't over yet. The Dar-e Abbas mosque wants to expand, but needs zoning rules changed to do that. In order to grow, the Lilburn mosque plans on buying three neighboring properties.
For 11 years the mosque has called a small nondescript house along Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn home. Plans for a new building and cemetery have recently drawn attention from neighbors.
Last week, about 500 residents gathered to discuss the mosque's expansion proposal. The city zoning committee voted against granting the Muslim congregation a special permit for expansion. The proposal went before the full city council Wednesday and was also defeated.
Members of the mosque said they will continue to fight for expansion.
And when they say they will continue to fight - they aren't kidding:
From the Gwinnett Daily Post: Woman: My family was threatened after Lilburn Mosque meeting.
