Authorities Bust Massive Southwest Drug Smuggling Ring

Authorities say the ring virtually monopolized smuggling routes along an 80-mile section of the Arizona-Mexico border from Yuma to just east of the small Tohono O'odham Nation town of Sells.

Yep, not a reason in the world to worry about Illegal Immigration or a secure border, just nothing to see here dumbass's move along...

Actually more reason to have an armed Military presence along the border with explicit orders to shoot and kill!
Its a tough way to go, just consider it a "No GO Zone"

Foxnews
Arizona authorities have disrupted a Mexican drug cartel's distribution network, arresting dozens of smugglers in dismantling a ring responsible for carrying more than $33 million worth of drugs through the state's western desert every month, officials said Monday.
The ring is believed be tied to the Sinaloa cartel -- Mexico's most powerful -- and responsible for smuggling more than 3.3 million pounds of marijuana, 20,000 pounds of cocaine and 10,000 pounds of heroin into the U.S. through Arizona over the past five years, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Their efforts in that time generated an estimated $2 billion, according to ICE

Arizona Legislature OKs Presidential 'Birther' Bill

Too Funny,
But honestly can you disagree with this?

I'm sure there will be some sort of backlash somewhere, some anti American liberal assclown will spin some sort of racist remarks all around this!

Foxnews
PHOENIX -- The Arizona Legislature gave final approval late Thursday night to a proposal that would require President Obama and other presidential candidates to prove they are U.S. citizens before their names can appear on the state's ballot.

Arizona would become the first state to require such proof if Gov. Jan Brewer signs the measure into law.

Republican Rep. Carl Seel of Phoenix, the author of the bill, said the bill wasn't about opposition to Obama. "This bill is about the integrity of our elections," Seel said.

'Major' Human Smuggling Cell Busted in Arizona

But there is nothing wrong in Arizona, or any other place along the Border with Mexico.
That is what the Obamasiah Would like us to believe.

Arizona may want to check into their Vehicle registration Process Though.

Foxnews
PHOENIX – Authorities have dismantled a major cell of a human smuggling ring that may be responsible for the transportation of thousands of illegal immigrants from the U.S.-Mexico border to Phoenix and other parts of the country, investigators said Wednesday.

Nine people were arrested Wednesday after a yearlong investigation. They have not yet been charged but are accused of picking up illegal immigrants after they crossed the border by foot, and taking them to what are known as drop houses in Phoenix before they were distributed to other parts of the country.

The group was led by a man who told them his name is Mark Rodriguez-Banks, although investigators were working to determine whether that is his real name and if he was living in the country legally, said Arizona Department of Public Safety Capt. Fred Zumbo.

All but one of those arrested are believed to be in the country illegally. Their names were not released.

Rodriguez-Banks provided vehicles for the immigrants' transportation from the border to Phoenix, and from there to other parts of the country, Zumbo said.

Authorities seized 62 vans from the group Wednesday, some of which were disguised as belonging to flower or carpet cleaning companies. None of the vehicles had been reported stolen but were registered to people with addresses that don't exist.

An Arizona mother is suffering from severe burns to her face and chest after another woman allegedly threw a powerful acid at her face, MyFoxPhoenix.com reports.

Authorities said Derri Velarde of Mesa, Ariz., was getting out of her car at an apartment complex on Friday when a female suspect approached her and threw acid in her face, according to the station.

Investigators reportedly believe the incident was not a random attack and say the suspect hid behind Velarde's vehicle, waiting for the 41-year-old to get out of work.

"I don't know what could go through a person's head to do something like that," David Dias, the victim's son, told KPHO.com. "I mean if it was jealousy or trying to hurt someone's appearance like that, it's disgusting and wrong and there's a special place in hell for people like that."

Police are searching for the suspect, described as 30 to 40 year-old Hispanic female, 5'6" and weighing 140 pounds. The suspect is believed to have black shoulder-length hair, authorities said, and was reportedly wearing a black tank top and black sweat pants with a white stripe at the time of the attack.

Arizona's Altered Immigration Law Takes Effect, State Heads Back to Court

WTF?

Obama has effectively started the Ball rolling for The Hugest Division of beliefs within the United States .

Now it is O.K. to break the Law , it is O.K. for non Residents to come here and take our Jobs , it is O.K. For Illegal Aliens to do whatever they want .

The Majority of U.S. Citizens oppose Illegal Immigration , But Obama and his political hoodlums are pro Immigration ??

At a time when jobs are being lost at an alarming rate , The Obama Administration is welcoming thousands of Illegals to the U.S. to compete for those Jobs !

It's ass Backwards , it's just plain wrong .

Foxnews
Arizona's court-altered illegal immigration law went into effect just after midnight Wednesday, hours after a federal judge blocked its most controversial provisions -- including on-the-spot police checks of suspected illegal immigrants.

Arizona's court-altered illegal immigration law went into effect just after midnight Wednesday, hours after a federal judge blocked its most controversial provisions -- including on-the-spot police checks of suspected illegal immigrants.

Brewer vowed to take the case "all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary," in a legal process that could take years to unravel, leaving other states considering similar laws in a legislative limbo.

While opponents of Arizona's strict immigration law are claiming victory after Wednesday's ruling, there's still plenty left in the state legislation that supporters are cheering.

As the case is litigated, Arizona will be able to block state officials from so-called "sanctuary city" policies limiting enforcement of federal law; require that state officials work with federal officials on illegal immigration; allow civil suits over sanctuary cities; and to make it a crime to pick up day laborers.

Anti-Immigrant Group Calls for 'Safe Passage' of Illegals Out of U.S.

Not a Problem .

Then why is the Pro Immigration crowd Not liking this ?

Foxnews
An anti-immigration group is calling on the Obama administration to ensure a smooth exit for illegal immigrants who are trying to leave the U.S. due to the weak economy
and Arizona's strict new immigration law.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) is urging U.S. citizens to pressure the White House and the Homeland Security Department to establish "safe departure" border checkpoints along the U.S. border for illegal immigrants so they can leave without fear of being detained or prosecuted for immigration crimes.

"The peaceful and gradual exodus of illegals from Arizona shows there is no need for comprehensive immigration reform amnesty," William Gheen, president of the group, said in a written statement. "Comprehensive immigration enforcement works and has the desired effect without mass deportations."

Illegal Immigration Costs U.S. $113 Billion a Year, Study Finds

$113 Billion Dollars !
That's a lot of Tax Dollars that could be put to use elsewhere , but it does not seem to be an Issue for the Pro Immigration Crowd .

But if we take the Illegal immigrants out of the Picture What are these people to do with their Farms ? how are the Whacky liberals going to get all them votes ?

we cant do anything about immigration because of these issues .

Illegal immigrants hold 2.8 Million Jobs in the United States , and we are constantly told that NO U.S. CITIZENS , want these jobs !

How does anyone know this when Illegal Immigrants have been taking these jobs for decades , and Mainly because they are willing to undercut Minimum wage workers !

No Immigrants mean less money and less votes , and these people are willing to sacrifice America and it's workers because of this !

Foxnews
The cost of harboring illegal immigrants in the United States is a staggering $113 billion a year -- an average of $1,117 for every “native-headed” household in America -- according to a study conducted by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

The study, a copy of which was provided to FoxNews.com, “is the first and most detailed look at the costs of illegal immigration ever done,” says Bob Dane, director of communications at FAIR, a conservative organization that seeks to end almost all immigration to the U.S.

FAIR's opponents in the bitter immigration debate describe the organization as "extremist," though it is regularly called upon to testify before Congress.

Groups that support immigration reform immediately attacked FAIR's report and pointed out that it is the polar opposite of the Perryman Report, a 2008 study paid for by a liberal group now called the American Immigration Council. That study found that illegal immigration was actually a boon to the American economy. It estimated that illegal immigrants add $245 billion in Gross Domestic Product to the economy and account for 2.8 million jobs.

The FAIR report comes as President Obama moves immigration reform to the top of his agenda, and it is likely to be a rallying point for those who oppose the president. At a speech Thursday at American University in Washington, D.C., Obama argued that the entire immigration system is broken and needs sweeping reforms. Among the changes he said are needed is "a path for [farm] workers to earn legal status," which the president's critics called an opening for a new amnesty program.

FAIR's report argues that there are two choices in the immigration debate: “One choice is pursuing a strategy that discourages future illegal migration and increasingly diminishes the current illegal alien population through denial of job opportunities
and deportations. The other choice,” it says, “would repeat the unfortunate decision made in 1986 to adopt an amnesty that invited continued illegal migration.”

Mexico Joins Suit Against Arizona's Immigration Law, Citing 'Grave Concerns'

Until recently, Mexican law made illegal immigration a criminal offense -- anyone arrested for the violation could be fined, imprisoned for up to two years and deported. Mexican lawmakers changed that in 2008 to make illegal immigration a civil violation like it is in the United States, but their law still reads an awful lot like Arizona's.

First off Let me say that Pres. Calderon and every Illegal Immigrant along with citizens of Mexico , Who oppose this law , are outright HYPOCRITES !

You all should take care of your own Business in your own Country BEFORE you come here and try to change OUR Laws !

Why Should the United States , Specifically Arizona , Change the Laws to Help NON U.S. Citizens RAPE the Country of Tax Dollars , All the while Mexico is Guilty of the Same F**king Thing ?

It is B.S. like this that will Ensure All Illegal Immigrants Will Be Punished .

Foxnews
Mexico on Tuesday asked a federal court in Arizona to declare the state's new immigration law unconstitutional, arguing that the country's own interests and its citizens' rights are at stake.

Lawyers for Mexico on Tuesday submitted a legal brief in support of one of five lawsuits challenging the law. The law will take effect July 29 unless implementation is blocked by a court.

The law generally requires police investigating another incident or crime to ask people about their immigration status if there's a "reasonable suspicion" they're in the country illegally. It also makes being in Arizona illegally a misdemeanor, and it prohibits seeking day-labor work along the state's streets.

Arizona's policy, which President Felipe Calderon derided during a recent U.S. trip as "discriminatory," states police can't randomly stop people and demand papers, and the law prohibits racial profiling.

Mexican law, however, requires law enforcement officials "to demand that foreigners prove their legal presence in the country before attending to any issues."

Amnesty International recently issued a report claiming illegal immigrants in Mexico -- typically from Central America -- face abuse, rape and kidnappings, and that Mexican police do little to stop it. When illegal immigration was a criminal offense in Mexico, officials were known to seek bribes from suspects to keep them out of jail.

And not only that Mexico's Own people Rape and rob Even Kill Mexican Citizens when bringing them into this Country .

Yeah we Are the Bad people !

Section of Arizona Wildlife Refuge Closed Since 2006 Due to Safety Concerns

And if , like some say , There is no problem at the Border , that it is perfectly safe .
Why then was this area closed to the public ?

Foxnews
Thousands of acres of government parkland in Arizona that was quietly closed to U.S. citizens in 2006 due to safety concerns fueled by drug and human smuggling along the Mexican border remains a no-go zone for Americans nearly four years later.

Roughly 3,500 acres of taxpayer-funded government land in Arizona has been closed to U.S. citizens since 2006 due to safety concerns fueled by drug and human smuggling along the Mexican border, according to a statement posted on the website for the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge.

The section of land -- about 3 percent of the 118,000-acre refuge -- has been closed since Oct. 6, 2006, when "there was a marked increase in violence along the border due to human and drug trafficking," according to the statement released Wednesday by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The closed area extends north from the international border for roughly three-quarters of a mile; a notice of the area's closure has been posted on the refuge's website since 2006. The remainder of the refuge remains open to the public for recreational activities.

"At this time there are no plans to reopen this southernmost 3/4-mile portion of the Refuge," the statement continued. "However, since 2006 the Refuge has experienced a significant decline in violent activity in the area thanks to ongoing cooperation between the US Fish and Wildlife Service and US Customs and Border Protection."

At least something is being done !

Ann Arbor illegal immigrant jailed after protest at Sen. McCain's office

So a Gay Iranian Muslim , who is an Illegal Immigrant , decides to protest and gets his ass thrown in jail for breaking the law !
Now he faces Deportation , But back to Iran ?
If Iran gets him they will already Know that he is Gay , And he will be Hanged !
Maybe this Dumbass Should have thought about that before he decided to get Arrested , And it would not be because of Arizona's immigration law ! It is because you are not supposed to be in this country ILLEGALLY !

Freep.com
A Muslim illegal immigrant from Ann Arbor who fears deportation to Iran because he is gay is in jail today after leading a sit-in protest Monday inside the office of Sen. John McCain over Arizona's new immigration law. Tonight in Detroit, a vigil for him is to be held in Clark Park.

Mohammad Abdollahi, 24, of Ann Arbor was one of a group of protesters who were arrested Monday at the Tucson, Ariz., offices of McCain after trespassing and sitting in the office in protest of the Arizona law targeting illegal immigrants. He could now face deportation proceedings.

A spokeswoman for McCain, Brooke Buchanan, said today that their office gave the protesters leeway and did not immediately call the police when they arrived at the office with an attorney. McCain's office let them even stay inside the office one hour past closing time.

Buchanan said that McCain is committed to immigration reform, but the U.S. must first secure its borders. McCain has called for the National Guard to be deployed on the southern border to stem a rising tide of violence.

Study shows broad support for Arizona migrant law

Soooooo , Again we have a large majority of U.S. Citizens are in support of Arizona Clamping down on Illegal Immigration .
Sounds about right to me , With the exception of a few Certain Democratic Politicians and Of course your standard people who benefit from USING migrant workers , The only ones really Bitching About this law would be the Illegal Immigrant's .
Sorry people but you must Abide by the Law !
But with Obama in Charge I'm sure we will have some sort of Amnesty for Illegals Crammed down our throats , just like the Healthcare reform !

(Reuters) - A solid majority of Americans back Arizona's tough crackdown on illegal immigrants, while just 25 percent support President Barack Obama's immigration policy which includes legalizing millions of unauthorized migrants, a study found on Wednesday.

The controversial Arizona law passed last month requires state and local police, after making "lawful contact," to check the immigration status of anyone they reasonably suspect is in the country illegally, and arrest those who cannot prove it.

The report by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press (www.people-press.org) found that 59 percent of adults polled in a national survey gave their overall approval to the law, which opponents charge is unconstitutional and a mandate for racial profiling.

Seventy-three percent said they backed a measure requiring people to produce documents verifying their legal status if police ask for them, while 67 percent approve of allowing police to detain anyone who cannot verify that they are in the country legally.

The new law has pushed a debate over immigration to the fore in U.S. politics, and rebooted a drive by Obama and Senate Democrats to overhaul federal immigration laws -- although it is seen as a longshot before November congressional elections.

Obama supports a system allowing undocumented immigrants in good standing to pay a fine, learn English and become citizens. He also backs tightening border security and clamping down on employers that hire undocumented workers.

The survey, carried out among 994 adults -- found that only 25 percent supported Obama's handling of immigration policy, while more than twice as many -- 54 percent -- said they disapproved.

17 Suspected Illegal Immigrants Caught in Search for Ariz. Deputy's Attackers

Not only did Illegal Immigrants shoot a Sheriffs Deputy , While they were Breaking more than A few laws ! They also shot at Police helicopters that were searching for them !
What nice people these Immigrants can be !

Foxnews
PHOENIX -- Authorities have captured 17 suspected illegal immigrants in southern Arizona as they continued their manhunt Saturday for smugglers who they say shot and wounded a sheriff's deputy in a remote desert area 50 miles south of Phoenix.

Three of those captured overnight Friday matched descriptions from the wounded Pinal County deputy and were being questioned Saturday, sheriff's Lt. Tamatha Villar said. The deputy was released from the hospital, and was recovering at home.

The shooting came amid a growing national debate over the state's new law cracking down on illegal immigration. A backlash over the law has erupted, with civil rights activists, concerned it will lead to racial profiling, calling for protests and boycotts.

Criticism of the law was sure to figure prominently at dozens of immigrants rights marches and rallies planned for Saturday across the nation, including one set for the grounds of the Arizona state Capitol.

The new law's passage came amid increasing anger in Arizona about violence, drug smugglers and illegal immigration drop houses. The issue gained renewed attention a month ago when a southern Arizona rancher was shot and killed by a suspected illegal border crosser.

Arizona politicians called Friday's shooting an outrage and urged the federal government to do more to secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

The violence "should show the rest of the country what we Arizonans have known for too long -- the unsecured border poses a very real and very immediate danger," said U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, a Democrat whose district includes part of Pinal County

Mexicans slam Arizona immigration law, but how do they treat their migrants?

So , Being Raped and Beaten and having your money stolen from you , along with the Constant fear of deportation ( And being killed ," Not in the Report " ) Is O.K. ?
Especially when you are A Citizen of Mexico Doing it to immigrants trying to enter Mexico From their Southern Border .

But the State of Arizona Passing a Law that States " You Must have proof of Identification " , Is not O.K. !

A Common Law " Have some form of Identification Stating who you Are "

Well Mexico And it's citizens that live here ! You all are a bunch of Hypocrites !

Boycott Arizona If you Like ! We of the United States Can Boycott too !
Arizona is just the Beginning !

IMO , If you don't like it here , you Can Leave ! No one asked you to come here !

El Paso Times
Mexico City - As Mexicans decry the Arizona immigration law and launch boycotts of Arizona, Amnesty International released a scathing new report urging Mexicans to look in the mirror.

"Invisible Victims: Migrants on the Move in Mexico" details the abuse faced by Central American migrants, who cross the southern border between Guatemala and Mexico, usually en route to the US.

Each year, tens of thousands of migrants make the trip.

Many lose limbs from accidents on trains they board to head northward. Women and girls report sexual violence. And - far worse than asking suspected illegal immigrants about their US immigration status, as the new Arizona law will require police to do - many Central American migrants to Mexico accuse Mexican officials of demanding bribes or flat-out stealing their cash.

"Migrants in Mexico are facing a major human rights crisis leaving them with virtually no access to justice, fearing reprisals and deportation if they complain of abuses," Rupert Knox, Mexico Researcher at Amnesty International, said. "Persistent failure by the authorities to tackle abuses carried out against irregular migrants has made their journey through Mexico one of the most dangerous in the world."

How Arizona Became Center of Immigration Debate

So what do you do ?

Should we give an Estimated 12 to 20 Million illegal , undocumented , Law breaking individuals Amnesty , and all the rights of a naturalized citizen and someone that was Born in the USA !

the point was made yesterday about Arizona Governor. Jan Brewer , and her ancestors being Immigrants ! That's real funny because everyone that lives here is a descendant of an immigrant , Even Native American Indians Migrated here !

IT'S NO SURPRISE !

But once colonized and established the U.S Required documentation of who you are in order to come here ! Immigrants eventually After time sent to Ellis Island where without Much question they were given Paperwork , DOCUMENTS , You had to have them on you !!! They were more than welcome to come here , But just have your Fucking papers !

So whats the difference today ???

We have an influx of law breaking , undocumented , I want to change the laws of another country type of people who feel they can do what they want , Telling us , NOT ASKING US , that by what ever means necessary they will have their way !

ABC News
The frustration had been building for years in Arizona with every drug-related kidnapping, every home invasion, every "safe house" discovered crammed with illegal immigrants from Mexico.

The tensions finally spilled over this month with passage of the nation's toughest law against illegal immigration, a measure that has put Arizona at the center of the heated debate over how to deal with the millions of people who sneak into the U.S. every year.

A number of factors combined to produce the law: a heavily conservative Legislature, the ascent of a Republican governor, anger over the federal government's failure to secure the border, and growing anxiety over crime that reached a fever pitch last month with the slaying of an Arizona rancher, apparently by an illegal immigrant.

"It's something that should have been taken care of for years. It's not something we can keep slacking on," said Thomas Fitch, whose neighborhood was the site of a raid last month that netted 11 illegal immigrants in a safe house. "At the rate we're going now, it's going to get a lot worse."

The new law makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally and directs police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal.

Critics warned that the law could result in racial profiling and other abuses, and they are planning a legal challenge and a November referendum to overturn the measure. Supporters of the law say it is a commendable effort to combat what is fast becoming a scourge in the U.S.

Arizona is the biggest gateway into the U.S. for illegal immigrants. The state is home to an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants — a population larger than that of entire cities such as Cleveland, St. Louis and New Orleans.

The Republican-dominated Legislature has backed a series of tough immigration measures in the past decade, only to have the most aggressive efforts thwarted by then-Gov. Janet Napolitano, a Democrat.

No surprise there !

New York politicians rip into Arizona immigration law, call it 'un-American'

And off we go , All the name calling and crying foul has begun !

so It has come down to this , If you are against illegal aliens coming in to the UNITED STATES ,
if you are against giving illegal aliens all access to Americas social Programs ,

if you are against people , including illegal aliens , running around the UNITED STATES without any identification and driving cars ,

if you are against these people coming here and taking jobs ,

YOU ARE A RACIST !

ask yourself a few questions ,
Why are so many of the Liberal Democrats , all for giving 12 to 20 Million illegal immigrants amnesty ?

why is it these same liberal loons , cry foul when anyone speaks out against Amnesty ?

Why is it You are considered a racist and just plain mean spirited because you don't believe in the same insanity of handing over a large population of people here that have already broken our Laws ?

I Believe that many in the Democratic Party stand to greatly benefit from giving amnesty to the 12 million plus lawbreakers in the U.S., so much so that they will
sell out you and me and every other Legal citizen of the United States .

I say the Liberal ass clowns that are in charge Are Extremely Un-American !

NY Daily News
A stringent new Arizona law aimed at identifying and prosecuting illegal immigrants drew harsh criticism Saturday from New York politicians and activists.

"We do need comprehensive immigration law in this country but not like this," said Sen. Chuck Schumer. "This law is mean-spirited and I'm opposed to it."

Are opposed to it because you will loose some votes ? Or because you will loose some cheap labor around your house ?

On Friday, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a bill into law making failure to carry proof of citizenship or legal status a crime, and any immigrants who can't produce the documentation can be arrested, fined $2,500 and jailed for up to six months.

Critics fear it would give cops free reign to harass the state's Hispanic population.

Why Just the Hispanics ? they were not named in this bill ! Are they the only ones running around without I.D ? They seem to be the only ones that are Crying like little babies About this !

Mayor Bloomberg said the law, which takes effect in August, could hurt the country financially because it "sends exactly the wrong message."

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio deemed it "un-American" legislation that "does nothing to address the pressing problems of our broken immigration system."

Brewer ordered the state to create a training course on how to enforce the law without violating anyone's civil rights. "We must enforce the law evenly, and without regard to skin color, accent or social status," she said.

"The disturbing trend of our immigration policies being influenced by xenophobia and racial profiling has reached a new level in Arizona," de Blasio said. "[This new law] is offensive, discriminatory and does nothing to address the pressing problems of our broken immigration system."

then Get off your overpaid Dead ass and do something about the Immigration problems in the U.S. !

"But as a country, America will be badly hurt if more states follow Arizona's lead," he said. "Foreign investment and tourism are critical to our national economy, and this new law sends exactly the wrong message to international companies and travelers."

An estimated 12 million undocumented workers live in the U.S. Bloomberg called on Washington to lead the way with comprehensive reform. Schumer has been meeting with lawmakers to draft such immigration policy.

Immigrant rights activists are expected to rally nationwide on May 1 in as part of an annual call for immigration and economic reform. In the city, that rally is set for 12 noon in Foley Square near City Hall.

What will Washington do about the Arizona immigration law? Or , Obama Says WHAT ?

“Our failure to act responsibly at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others,”

That's Right , The Obamasiah does it again , He makes it clear that We or the State political systems We have are Irresponsible in their actions to Govern the States as we see fit !

Only the Federal Government can be so responsible , to do so !

Mr. Obama , Just because you Are the President , it does not make you Better than anyone else !

What is Irresponsible About wanting to know who a person is ? When we get pulled over by the Police , we must show our Drivers License !
We don't like doing it , But it is the Law !

When did Common sense (Showing legal I.D.) become Irresponsible !

The Christian Science Monitor
Washington
Immigration has shot to center stage in Washington, following the signing Friday by Gov. Jan Brewer (R) of Arizona of legislation that makes it a state crime to be in the United States illegally. The law also requires Arizona police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is cause for suspicion.

It is being called the toughest legislation against illegal immigration in the country.

At the signing ceremony in Phoenix, Governor Brewer defended what she called her “unwavering signature” on the bill, despite concerns that the new law could result in racial profiling and other violations of civil liberties.

Arizona, which borders on Mexico, has long struggled with illegal immigration. Brewer discussed “border-related violence and crime due to illegal immigration,” but added that she had worked with legislators to strengthen civil-rights protections in the bill.

Brewer also blamed Washington for failing to address the immigration crisis in the US, where estimates of the undocumented immigrant population range from 12 million to 20 million.

“We in Arizona have been more than patient waiting for Washington to act,” Brewer said. “But decades of inaction and misguided policy have created a dangerous and unacceptable situation.”
